I said fine with less well known meanings but I think for me its a bit more about how related the names are. Like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] work together but the meanings are more noticable and bug me a little more because [name_f]Anna[/name_f] means “grace” exactly so it feels more like using the same name whereas [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] both meaning light feels like more of a sweet connection since the names have different origins and just happen to mean similar things. Idk If this is making sense.

  • Adelaide (“Of noble kind”)
  • Violaine (“Like a violet”)
0 voters

Adelaide can be pronounced in the English way or in the French way a-deh-la-EED or in the Italian way a-deh-la-EE-deh. I like all 3 types of reading it;
Violaine in French is vio-LEHN.

The violet flower has ties with the Victorian age and Napoleon Bonaparte, my special interests.

What name do you prefer the most?

spelling for a fictional character in a magical setting, the goal is for it to be pronounced like the word ‘roomy’ with a B instead of an R!

This would be his given name and not a nickname, if that changes anything. The other main character is called Mako (like the shark). tyyy <3

  • Boomi

bonus:

I think I like the Bumi spelling best, just unsure if people would guess the right pronunciation? Also I just found out there is a character from Avatar the Last Airbender with this name, which doesn’t bother me since I’m just writing for fun. Keep going back and forth between thinking having ‘Boo’ in the name is not ideal and thinking it’s cute. The Boomy spelling feels like a descriptive nickname to me more than a plausible (fantasy) given name, at least in comparison to the others? anyway, thank you for reading my ramble if u made it this far :)))

There is also a second character with the name in the sequel series Legend of Korra which also has a character named Mako in it.
