Not quite the same situation, but maybe informative! I used to have a pet named Bowie (unrelated to the singer, it was actually pronounced boh-ee instead of bow-ee) and anyone over the age of 40 would make David Bowie comments about it constantly, including asking me if I listened to his music I never got any similar comments from people around my age though. So I think it may depend on the age of the person seeing the name as well, considering David Bowie was most popular in 70s
My association with Bowie
I thought of the local Bowie high school where I grew up first lol Iād imagine it was named after James āJimā Bowie, for whom the knife is named after. For those who donāt know, he was an American pioneer/frontiersman who became a legendary Texas figure having fought in the Tx revolution and died at the Alamo like Davy Crocket. So the name really gives me an āOld Westā vibe.
So while I have heard of David Bowie, I will also be wondering if the kid was named after James Bowie if I know youāre from Texas and come off country. This is probably a regional association so I would think ppl outside of Tx would mostly think of David
Edit: Also Bowie is pronounced Boo ee when referring to the high school and Jim/James and knife instead of Boe/boh or bow
Yes sorry the original is [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] I just spelt it wrong

@tallemaja That is helpful, thank you!
@KaiLun I actually considered putting another option in the poll that was āNo, but it reminds me of something elseā because I had bowie knives in mind as well and know there are some cities by the name. Iām not from [name_m]Texas[/name_m] ā I had a vague āOld Westā association with the name from the knives but didnāt know any details of the historical figure. I also didnāt realize itās pronounced boo-ee in that context!

Might not assume ātheyāre super fans and named their child [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] for this reason onlyā (what I might think with a baby [name_m]Elvis[/name_m], for example) but would assume that they liked the association and found it to be a plus? I would be surprised if they were like āwho is [name_m]David[/name_m] Bowie?ā / āoh Iāve never really listened to the musicā / something like that

Hallie as a nn for a little boy (think Holden nn Hallieā¦)
- Super cute!!
- I like it as a family nn, but not as a formal nn
- Too feminine, just stick with Hal
Loving the idea of a little Hal being called Hallie sometimes
[name_m]Super[/name_m] cute, although Iād maybe go for [name_f]Hally[/name_f] over [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] since it looks a tiny bit more masc to me!
