Good for a boy because thatās how I see it, good for a girl because Iāve found thatās what people assume, good for either because it seems well established as a unisex name, good for neither because itās culturally insensitive
I genuinely had no idea that the name Dakota was culturally insensitive and controversial (just googled what you were talking about) - good to know, thank you!

[name_m]Dakota[/name_m]
I personally prefer it on a boy and had only known boys with the name growing up but itās pretty evenly split between girls and boys these days (54% to 46% favoring girls in usa 2023ās list) so it can work on both. [name_m]Dakota[/name_m] was initially more common on boys but later got popular on girls, probably because of celebs
Also since itās the name of a Native American tribe, some people will think itās weird for a non native to name their kid [name_m]Dakota[/name_m]
Same as others have said ā I like the name on any gender, but I wouldnāt use it.
[name_m]Roscoe[/name_m] for a girl is such a love of mine ā not sure how usable it is IRL but I would be happy to meet one! Itās sort of my āif I were a celebrityā or āif I were slightly more eccentric/coolā name haha
I also like Jenny/Genny and Jenna/Genna!
How would you pronounce [name_f]Evie[/name_f]? [name_f]Evvie[/name_f] or [name_f]Eevee[/name_f]? I like both ways!

I assumed [name_m]Genie[/name_m] was pronounced like [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] when I voted for it but if not then I would change my third nn vote to [name_f]Eve[/name_f].
ooh i was thinking ee vee, but i love [name_f]Evvie[/name_f] too!!
Elowen is super magical to me atm!

- Yeah, and feels made up (in a bad way)
- Yeah, but that doesnāt make me dislike it!
- If I wasnāt a namenerd, it totally would
- Nope!
Okay I love it [name_m]Roscoe[/name_m] on a girl is so rugged but adorable, and the nn [name_f]Coco[/name_f] adds some sweetness to it (get it?)

I know which name we all prefer generally, but for a character... (b)
Itās just about mid-2002, New York City. For a boy about 16, middle child of 5 siblings (two older brothers, two younger sisters)āand it shows. This is a nickname that has stuck, whether he likes it or not. Heās sensitive and empathetic, but quick-tempered and struggles to regulate his emotions which often gets him in trouble. Heās quite naive and requires a lot of guidance, but is almost desperate to feel like he has control over his circumstances. Heās closest to his youngest sister, heās passionate about photography, he used to play soccer. His family is Irish Catholic; they live in the Rockawaysāthough not in a fabulous beach house wayāin a rusty bicycle, skilled trades, and sand in the carpet kind of way.
I have gone back and forth a hundred times on his name. It was Amias for a really long time, but that started to feel a bit clunky and unnatural. His brothers have been James/Henry/Nicky and Cass/Cyd/Michael, and his youngest sister is usually Grace. His middle sister has always been OāHara!

@auroracallista Funnily enough I think [name_m]Roscoe[/name_m] is super cool for a girl but am just not into [name_f]Coco[/name_f] But [name_m]Roscoe[/name_m] (f) nicknamed [name_m]Ross[/name_m] or even [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]? [name_m]Or[/name_m] just [name_m]Roscoe[/name_m] in full? I love that!
@lumosmaxima I have a teenaged relative that the family sometimes calls Chippy and your description is so uncannily similar personality-wise to him! āthis is a nickname that has stuck, whether he likes it or notā is also the perfect description of how it came about (though Iād say he does like it, as long as you donāt use it in front of his friends, haha!)
