The Quick Poll Thread! (Part 7)

I’ve always loved the sound of Fairly as a name, but because of one of the meanings of the word is to essentially be not enough or not quite right, I’ve never included it on my list. In terms of guilty pleasures, though, I think anything can be a guilty pleasure! That’s the fun of them! It could maybe be a fun middle for something classic and with a non-wordy last name, like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] Fairly [name_m]Washington[/name_m], for an utterly random example.

Seconding the cartoon, but outside of that it’s more Hipster, geek chic to me. I say that affectionately, I love the name.

I love this. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I sort of feel like they’re my girls too… even beyond the blogs, I’m so connected to those names. It’s why I chose (most) of the six names I used in those combos. I love that you mention these names. Vis, Clemma, Birdy… :two_hearts:

This is how I feel too, @snowmaiden! Of course I associate you with Josephine, Frances, Alice, etc, but Vision “Vis,” Clementine “Clemma,” and Florence “Birdy” are forever the ones imprinted on my mind as Hazel’s girls!

  • VAH-lehn-teen

not very different but I would say the last syllable like “tin” rather than “teen”

me too! in my opinion valentin ends with more of a “tin” sound and valentine ends with more of a “teen” sound

thank you both for your input!! i personally don’t hear a difference between teen and tin, but i know a lot of people do. that said, i’d definitely pronounce valentine to rhyme with line!

I went to elementary school with not one but two Dexters! I don’t think any of the pop culture references are that strong. To me it fits with the contemporary American vibes – maybe a little hipster, but not in a bad way.

Is Arrow too violent?

  • Yes, it’s like naming a kid “Bullet.”
  • No, it has a spiritual and symbolic meaning that comes before the weapon.
  • Having a softer, peaceful middle with a positive meaning would make up for the weapon-y first name.

no, but not for either of those reasons! i do associate it with the bow and arrow, but i think of archery as a sport first, not necessarily as something inherently violent
