The Quick Poll Thread! (Part 8)

They do have a very clear nature and color theme, and are matchy because of this. However, like many others have said, I love them together still. The theme isn’t super unique, so Hazel and Violet have never felt like too much to me. They’re both vintage and both used as names frequently, so they feel more cohesive than matchy, despite being very matchy. These two work for some reason, and I think it’s because nature names aren’t super unique or crazy picks oftentimes. For example, having a Blaze and an Ember feels way too matchy for siblings (unlike Hazel and Violet), because the fire theme isn’t super common and both of these names are unexpected. If that makes any sense!

@Kipperbo1 I initially misread Briar as Blair and thought that it sounded nice. Foster Quincy Blair.

In your opinion, what is the best syllable order for a double middle combo?

  • 3-2-1
  • 2-3-1
  • I’d pick something else

(only putting two options plus an alternate, because this poll would be too long otherwise :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:)

Speaking as a [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] with a sister named [name_f]Violet[/name_f]! :woman_raising_hand:[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

Our parents did think of the nature theme when they were naming us! As well as the vintage connection and, most of all, the color connection. I am very biased of course, but I’ve always really loved our names together! They’re definitely matchy, but I think in a charming way, not an egregious one.

[name_f][/name_f]

If we’d had a third sister, her name would have been [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]— also a plant and color [name_f][/name_f]— to go with our names. They hadn’t intended a pattern, so with just two of us, it feels more coincidental than intentional. Which, really, it was when my parents were naming my sister.

ramblings (feel free to ignore)

I came up with [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Amoret[/name_f] first, but then I quickly realised the combined meaning would be “blind love”, and I’m not sure whether that is amusing/cute, cloying, or simply inconsequential? I don’t necessarily pay heed to literal meanings most of the time, but this one may seem a bit too “deliberate”/specific to ignore?

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] [name_f]Amoret[/name_f] randomly popped in my head as a possible alternative— still pretty and whimsical but less “twee”; nevertheless, I’m currently stuck on overthinking mode as, soundwise, I like both equally.

A relative is finding out next week the genders of her twins and has started having some mild anxiety about her top choice for each gender sharing a meaning (both honour multiple people, but were initially picked before she knew she’s having twins, to honour the same person).

Are Jonah & Jemima too matchy for twins?
  • Yes, the shared first letter and/or shared meaning is too much
  • Yes, other reason
  • They’re matchy, but fine as they’re both honours
  • They’re matchy, but not too much
  • No, they’re fine

I don’t really care about the syllable counts at all, just if the names flow together well. All three names could have three or four syllables, or just one, as long as the cadence sounded good to me. And if the names themselves don’t “go” well imo, the syllable count won’t change that

They do sound a lot alike with the same starting and ending sound and that does give me a lot of pause especially for twins, but they don’t have the same meaning or come from the same root word/name so they’re not way too similar to work imo

  • Cute!
  • Not my style, but fine
  • Hypothetically cute, but would get “maxi pad” teasing IRL
  • Too “maxi pad” to even be hypothetically cute
  • and I thought of maxi pads right away
  • and I probably wouldn’t have made the connection

I love it! They could get some [name_f]Maxi[/name_f] pad jokes at some point but I run under the assumption that kids will find a way to tease if they want to regardless. [name_m]Maxie[/name_m] is adorable!

I love[name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Maxie[/name_m] for both a little girl and a little boy. It’s always been so much cuter than [name_m]Max[/name_m] to me. And I agree with [name_f]Brynn[/name_f]. When I had [name_m]Maxie[/name_m] on my list ~a year ago I made the connection and worried that others might too, but it wasn’t something that I thought about frequently when I said the name. I think it’s different with [name_m]Maxie[/name_m] because it feels like a nickname so the -ie ending is intuitive and doesn’t immediately feel like a word.
