Would you believe that this was the name of a mer prince?

  • No, because I would question merpeople’s knowledge of Shakespeare
  • No, because I don’t think it’s “aquatic-y” enough / suits the vibe
  • No, because it’s a BAD NAME and I HATE IT so I would never believe that ANYONE would use such a TERRIBLE NAME

I think [name_m]Rory[/name_m] makes sense as a nickname for Florizell but I don’t like it

I guess I’d be a bit confused by the broader context of the story? Are these [name_f]French[/name_f] mermaids? I don’t see [name_f]Ophélie[/name_f] having ranked in the Top 1000 of any non-French places. But then [name_m]Rory[/name_m] is a very non-French-seeming name to me. So what does these merpeople’s culture look like? I guess it would make sense to me if they lived between [name_f]France[/name_f] and the [name_f]British[/name_f] Isles, in the [name_f]English[/name_f] channel, and they were influenced by those linguistics. But then if this is like, set in the tropical waters of the Gulf of Mexico for example, then I’d have questions if the names’ origins were never explained.

They are not specifically [name_f]French[/name_f] mermaids (I don’t think [name_f]France[/name_f] exists, actually), and your confusion is helpful, not for you but for me figuring stuff out

if you saw the name “Juni” in a story for a male character, how would you instinctively pronounce it? the story is set in a fictional world and the second main character is called Niko, if that changes anything!

Juni
  • Joo-nee (J as in Jelly, an English J sound)
  • Yoo-nee (as in You, an English Y sound)
  • something else?

I want it to be pronounced like Junie with the english J sound, but I don’t want the Junie spelling :))

Thanks everyone! :herb::tulip:

I voted feminine because I have only ever known female Robin’s IRL, but it feels 100% unisex to me! I’d just expect a female [name_m]Robin[/name_m] before a male because that’s how the usage swings. :slight_smile:
