This… this is a specific one. My head is telling me that this thing is a quartet, meaning I need four narrators in total, and that’s where I’ve gotten stuck. I have the first three, and the very rough gist of each story’s arc:
ONE: ??? Fay = Morgan le Fay (Untitled) 🩵
In which ??? discovers they have magical abilities and sets out to learn more about what they can do, accidentally kicking the demonic chaos building in Britain up several notches along the way.
TWO: Marin ‘Wren’ ??? = Robin Hood (Flight of the Arrow)
In which the rather supernatural demon hunter Wren finds himself overwhelmed by the force of the demons unleashed by ??? and co. in Book One, and is forced to seek help in defeating them.
THREE: Ari Penryn = King Arthur (Rise of the Sword)
In which Ari Penryn meets a sorcerer, discovers said sorcerer believes he is the return of King Arthur, and then finds Excalibur, which convinces him that the sorcerer isn’t actually crazy — so he sets out to save Britain.
FOUR: ??? ??? = ??? ??? (Untitled) 🩶
In which our narrator/protagonist joins forces with the jumble of reincarnated legends and their friends to save the country once and for all… once ??? and co. and Ari and the sorcerer have actually worked out how to trust each other.
Originally ??? Fay was called Remi, but I think I’ll need to change that because of Wren (unlikely to budge on that one, but if I do change Wren’s name then ??? Fay will be Remi. No, it can’t be Morgan, Morgan is ??? Fay’s main partner in crime. I should change Wren because honestly that’s the exact same name as one of my all-time favourite characters, but I think it’s absolutely perfect for the Robin Hood guy.). I have no idea what I’ll change it too, though.
Not quite sure on a good surname for Wren either, was using Hunter but that’s… boring? It still works, though, so maybe I’ll stick to that. Probably won’t go for Archer.
Ari Penryn has been decided already (might give him a full first name still…), though Merlin is most likely not going to remain as Elliot. I was going to do Emery and honestly now that I’m not doing Remi, maybe I will do Emery.
You know what, this is long enough already:
- Emery Merle is fine
- Emery and Ari are too similar
- Emery and Ari are fine, but Emery Merle sounds weird
Anyway, the actual question: which character from British legend would be a semi-reasonable addition to the Morgan le Fay/Robin Hood/King Arthur/Merlin cast?
I won’t have Merlin as a narrator whatever his name ends up being simply because two of the four are already Arthurian and I don’t want Wren to be the complete odd one out. That being said, I have debated the fourth narrator being the ‘Lady’ of the Lake, who is obviously also Arthurian. But they’d be new. I’m just not sure that’s the best choice, though I also don’t know whether I have many other options. Kelpies just aren’t quite on the same level as King Arthur and Robin Hood, you know?
(Also, any title ideas based on the X of the X format and the story gist/character for book one? Not as important but I’m a bit more stuck with that one.)
The grey heart is notebook colour undetermined (yeah, that’s a thing) by the way.
