the ridiculous names of your past

I think we all went through that phase as kids/teens where we liked names that we would cringe at now.
As far as real names, i was (totally pretentiously) obsessed with a b/g sib-set named [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] and [name_u]Orion[/name_u].

And then i had the whole list of ~~naymes~~ that I’d invented that i thought were going to be just stunning. My sisters and i all collaborated on this list, and it included names like: Saylee, Jerzee, and, most horribly, Bennedie ([name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] with a B and horribly misspelled).

Its funny now to go through old notebooks and find name lists like this and see how our taste has improved.

What horrible or yoonique names did you used to love? Confess it here!

[name_f]Mariposa[/name_f]. Seriously. facepalm

I totally went thru this faze!!! Haha I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this post because it brings up so many memories of when I was young and playing house and making up rediculous baby names that I though were just soooo amazing lol ugh. So here ate some. [name_f]Remember[/name_f] I was about 8… [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t judge me lol
I made up the name Ferlin (fur-lynn) and though it was soooo great. For a while I thought [name_f]Terri[/name_f] was amazing. And then random names like [name_f]Tammy[/name_f], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], and [name_f]DeeDee[/name_f] … Haha

I remember a few months ago that i wanted to name twin girls [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] & [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] lol . I also inveted Romysmae after you know what name

I begged my mother to call me [name_u]Tracey[/name_u]. She refused.

I wanted to have twins called [name_f]Annette[/name_f] and [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f].

I used to think Missee (spelled that way) was divine. Thank God I’m out of that stage.

I used to want [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] for a boy, and [name_u]Billie[/name_u] for a girl.

I used to have a full list of names in Middle School, way before I discovered Nameberry. I wish I’d kept it because there were some awful ones on their. I’ve always been pretty conservative with boys names, except for [name_m]Kyler[/name_m] which I loved, but the girl names I remember loving were [name_f]Makenna[/name_f], [name_u]Tate[/name_u] and Syler/[name_u]Saylor[/name_u], [name_f]Suri[/name_f] & [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]. However they were all (for the most part) paired with classic middle names so at least they weren’t all bad.

When I was about 12, I loved [name_u]Randi[/name_u] and [name_f]Shawna[/name_f] on girls. Oh, and Brendee, a smoosh of [name_f]Brenda[/name_f] and [name_f]Renee[/name_f]. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t know how I came up with those, but thank goodness my tastes have evolved!

When I was about 12 I had a tiny phase where I used to make up loads of names. [name_f]One[/name_f] of them was Kadis, pronounced like [name_u]KAY[/name_u]-diss, and I have no idea where I got that idea or why I liked it so much. :s

As a preteen I was obsessed with [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]. I wished my name was [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]. I wanted to name my daughter [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]. I was all about it… Until my aunt named her daughter [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], and I was crushed and betrayed. Now, of course, the name screams 80s to me and I cringe when I think of it on a baby, haha. When my cousin was born, realizing my [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] dreams had been crushed, I switched to [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. Not all bad. I would still name a pet [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], but not a child.

When I was five I made up the name Shellra because I thought seashells were pretty. :stuck_out_tongue: And made up a whole imaginary family with names like [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] (girl), [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] and [name_f]Alyna[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] nn A.A. (I actually called my sister A.A. for like a year even though it has nothing to do with her real name.) I also had imaginary friends named [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], Malcra, [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], and [name_f]Rhea[/name_f] (ree-ah). When I was about 10 I “made up” [name_f]Celinda[/name_f] and I really liked ‘90s names like [name_f]Brittany[/name_f], [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] and [name_f]Heather[/name_f] (and [name_u]Winter[/name_u] for a girl, no idea where that came from). I guess I thought they were cool because lots of cool girls in the books I read had these names. [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] was on my parents’ list and I kept asking them why they didn’t name me that… now I’m glad they didn’t because I know a few other Ashleys and no [name_m]Laurens[/name_m] (though I do know a couple Lauras).

On the other hand… I’ve loved [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] since I was like 10 when I first read [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables, even though I first thought it was pronounced cor-dell-ee-ah. I was crushed for a bit but then started loving the actual pronunciation.

When I was making name lists- I was about fourteen- I really liked the names [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], [name_u]Addison[/name_u], and [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f]. Not gonna lie, looking back, I’m ashamed of myself.

Haha, I am a [name_u]Randi[/name_u]. Not a nickname, either. I am an 80’s baby.

When I was a kid, I wanted four daughters named [name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Julianna[/name_f], [name_u]Julie[/name_u] and [name_f]Juliette[/name_f].

I honestly don’t remember making up names. I remember thinking that I couldn’t understand why people made them up all the time because it was sooooo hard! They either sounded way too much like an actual name, or they sounded like someone was banging their head against a computer keyboard and came up with this:

Fdsajilkjfewaiojtfewioanvfdkxgjireaoj. [name_f]Tada[/name_f]! I made up a name!

When I was four, my little sister was born. My parents had been having a hard time with names, so my mom asked me on the way home one day what my little sister’s name should be. I was learning the story of [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f] in Sabbath School/at church, so I said [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]. It was the only name my parents had liked at all, so apparently that sealed the deal–for nearly two decades (they only recently corrected me!) I had thought I had pulled my sister’s name out of a hat and was a brilliant baby namer! haha. Apparently I really loved the name (or was just really, really enamored by my baby sister!), because that [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], when my little sister was close to six months old, I got a doll for [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] and named her [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], too.

I remember when I first had an interest in names, I loved [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] for girls. And I was completely in love with the idea of [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] and [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] for sisters–I thought it was the best sibset ever! I don’t even know why. That was around fifth grade, I think. I found a list for around that time (maybe a year later?), and the names on the list were [name_f]Elisa[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Cassia[/name_f], [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f], [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f], [name_f]Kristiana[/name_f], [name_f]Hailee[/name_f], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_m]Jason[/name_m], [name_u]Jerry[/name_u], [name_f]Rachel[/name_f], and [name_f]Susan[/name_f]. I think many of the choices were inspired by books I had been reading at the time. I recognize [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Cassia[/name_f], [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f], [name_f]Kristiana[/name_f], and [name_f]Susan[/name_f] from books, and [name_m]Jason[/name_m] and [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] from an radio show I really loved at the time. I remember going through a phase of not knowing in the slightest of how [name_f]Hailee[/name_f] should be spelled–I didn’t think [name_u]Haley[/name_u] or [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] looked right, nor [name_f]Hayleigh[/name_f] (way too complicated, haha!), and that must have been the phase where I thought [name_f]Ashlee[/name_f] looked cool, so of course [name_f]Hailee[/name_f] was cool, too. I prefer [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] these days.

In around 8th grade, one of my mom’s coworkers was pregnant and my mom told her I was really into names so her coworker asked me to make her a top 10. I don’t remember all the names, but I remember [name_u]Sierra[/name_u], [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], [name_u]Allison[/name_u], etc. were on them. I remember that I used to [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Alison[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as a combo. She eventually named her daughter [name_u]Sierra[/name_u], but not because I suggested it–it had already been her top choice. I think she just needed an extra boost in confidence.

In high school, I remember LOVING [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_f]Lacey[/name_f], [name_m]Landon[/name_m], [name_u]Micah[/name_u], [name_f]Liberty[/name_f], [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] (boy), [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] (boy), etc.

[name_u]Early[/name_u] in college, I remember loving [name_f]Nadia[/name_f], [name_m]Emmerson[/name_m] (nn [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]; girl), [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] (girl), [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Leila[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_u]Delaney[/name_u], [name_f]Giselle[/name_f]/[name_f]Gisella[/name_f] (I had just seen Enchanted! And och, I love that movie, haha), [name_m]Travis[/name_m], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_u]Aidan[/name_u], [name_m]Collin[/name_m], etc.

I think most of my naming phases have been inspired by what I love at the moment–most strongly influenced by books. A lot of my favorites are still inspired by my favorite pieces of literature (I find them much more worthy of being honored than the latest novel!), as well as my faith, my family, and history.

For some reason, I really liked the name [name_m]Tancredi[/name_m] for a boy. No idea what I was thinking.

I’m still goth but now I’m a 26 yr old goth and when I was a 15 yr old goth…omg the names. [name_m]Lucifer[/name_m] and [name_f]Bella[/name_f] Tragedie were my boy and girl top names LOL. [name_m]Lucifer[/name_m] isn’t as bad as [name_f]Bella[/name_f] Tragedie but it wouldn’t really work well either. Any over the top cheesy goth name you can think of was on my list including demons, old gods, every name that meant doom and gloom, death and suffering lol I’m so glad I am over the pretencious teen goth phase. Now my top names are [name_f]Annika[/name_f] and [name_m]Greyson[/name_m]/[name_m]Lukas[/name_m] which are much more wearable. They let the kid decide what it wants to be when they are grown and doesn’t pigeonhole them into something. It is funny now though when I see the younger alternative people on the board suggesting the same type of names for their kids that I did at that age cause I remeber older people telling me how bad they were back then and I would think bah old people just don’t understand! and now I am that old person

I remember when I first heard the name [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] (age 7 or 8?) I thought it was spelt [name_m]Genet[/name_m] I used that spelling for one of my toy dogs.

maybe iam secretly a goth too because i find [name_f]Bella[/name_f] Tragedie weirdly cool
