So I know I said in my last post that that was it, but [name_u]Cody[/name_u] has decided that we need to make our lists even. We have one more girl name than boy so we need another boy.
The first names on our list for inspiration:
[name_m]Damien[/name_m] (Literary as I have a character [name_m]Damien[/name_m] that makes me love it)
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] (Historical)
[name_m]Virgil[/name_m] (historical, literary ish)
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] (mythological)
[name_m]Osiris[/name_m] (mythological)
[name_m]Roland[/name_m] (Ancient, romantic, adventurous feeling)
We like things mythological (Greek and Norse preferred but we’re good with other mythology also), Arthurian, Ancient, Romantic, Adventurous feeling, literary…so there you go
[name_m]Just[/name_m] throw everything at me and we’ll see what sticks.
@nla – [name_f]Welcome[/name_f] to the forums and thanks for stopping by!
We like and comments:
[name_m]Artemas[/name_m] – I’d love this as a first name but we already have it in the middle of several and we’re happy there (spelled [name_m]Artemus[/name_m])
Beowulf – This is on the middle list too!
[name_u]Constantine[/name_u]
Lorien – I think it’s fab on a boy but we have it in a [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f] combo
[name_m]Percival[/name_m] – [name_f]Love[/name_f] it too but our daughter is [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] so that won’t work
[name_m]Sherwood[/name_m] – Keeping it on the middle ^^
[name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] – We have [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f] on the girls side ^^
You hit a ton of names we love but can’t use for one reason or another. [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to go again
Otter – Yes! [name_f]Love[/name_f] these lists. We always find tons of names we like (middles or firsts) Here’s [name_u]Cody[/name_u]'s picks
Forseti – middle
Heimdall – middle
Dinadan – middle
Galahad – middle
Ironside – while this is AWESOME. It’s a resounding no from him
Beowulf – middle
[name_u]Oberon[/name_u] – middle
[name_m]Algernon[/name_m] – middle
Archimedes – middle
[name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]
[name_m]Socrates[/name_m] – middle
you see what he does to you -_- He’s particular. If it had been me I would have said “yes! All the names!” He said that while he likes a lot of them, he can’t see them in a sibset with the other kids names so there needs to be a happy medium between epic and awesome and wearable and awesome.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to throw [name_m]Lysander[/name_m] in the ring - it’s a long-time favourite of mine and I love the legend. Similar sound to [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], which I see you like, and I think it would be lovely with [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]!
Here are some other suggestions (apologies for any repeats!):
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_m]Cassius[/name_m]
[name_m]Dante[/name_m]
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] (I just love this)
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]
[name_m]Heathcliff[/name_m] (too Wuthering?)
[name_m]Lancelot[/name_m]
[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_m]Apollo[/name_m]
Best of luck!
Yes, it’s very awesome, but not first name material
Some likes and comments:
[name_m]Absalom[/name_m] – He’s the rebellion leader in my novel
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] – [name_u]Cody[/name_u] said “If not for Kvothe” It’s the [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] Rothfuss book Name of the Wind. He was TERRIBLE
[name_m]Aramis[/name_m]
[name_m]Aurelius[/name_m] – [name_m]Guy[/name_m] who has the ability to turn to gold and is burned to death in my novel >.> (I ruin lots of good names :P)
[name_m]Cassian[/name_m] – He’d also like to add [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_m]Odin[/name_m]
[name_m]Paladin[/name_m] – you keep suggesting it and I keep trying to get him to let me use it but he keep saying no pouty foot stomp
[name_m]Prospero[/name_m] – middle
[name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] – middle
[name_m]Vladimir[/name_m] – He said maybe. The issue he’s having, and I guess I’m agreeing right now is that he loves [name_m]Vladimir[/name_m] and he loves how it connects to Dracula (he really love Dracula despite the real [name_m]Vlad[/name_m]'s history) but right now, he’s hung up on Putin. And I guess I’m sort of turned off for the same reason. BUT I’m going to work through it and try to bring him around. [name_m]Vladimir[/name_m] is too much of an awesome name.
[name_u]Jem[/name_u], thanks! [name_m]Lysander[/name_m]'s actually been on and off the list before, as has Lysandra. We like:
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] – added it
[name_m]Cassius[/name_m] – He just loves all the [name_u]Cass[/name_u] names (I’m serious. He likes Casanova too but we’re not using that)
[name_m]Dante[/name_m] – We already have [name_m]Damien[/name_m] and feel [name_m]Dante[/name_m] and [name_m]Damien[/name_m] are too much together, but we have it in the middle - [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Dante[/name_m] [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] – This one is in our [name_m]Virgil[/name_m] combo – [name_m]Virgil[/name_m] [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] Rook/Archimedes which is too awesome to break up
[name_m]Apollo[/name_m] – we have [name_f]Apollonia[/name_f] on our list
You feel free to keep going. He has a habit of doing the same thing Otter’s husband does and sort of flopping around before settling.
Thank you for the welcome! I’ve been lurking for almost a year now and just decided to join the discussions. It’s nice to know you liked the names I’m going to try again, but I’m not sure how you’re going to like theses ones:
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_m]Boaz[/name_m]
Coriander
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u]
[name_m]Drake[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_m]Fabian[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]
[name_m]Lars[/name_m]
[name_m]Lennox[/name_m]
[name_u]March[/name_u]
[name_f]October[/name_f]
[name_u]Onyx[/name_u]
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]
[name_m]Orson[/name_m] (are the O names too close to [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] though?)
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Seraphim[/name_m]
[name_u]Sterling[/name_u]
I ended up including some of my favourite word names, even though I don’t know if that’s what you’re looking for (I see that one of [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]'s middles is [name_f]Willow[/name_f], so I assumed it was ok, at least for a middle. She has a beautiful name, by the way).
Castiel - well, you said [name_u]Cody[/name_u] likes [name_u]Cass[/name_u]- names ‘Supernatural’ might be an issue or a blessing
[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] - an awesome name, plus it has nerd cred! (and I mean that in a good way, haha)
[name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]
[name_m]Ptolemy[/name_m]
[name_m]Augustin[/name_m]/[name_m]Augustus[/name_m]
Wolfram
[name_m]Romulus[/name_m]
[name_m]Peregrin/name_m - I know you considered Samwise as a middle…
Arathorn - ditto [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m]
Theodred - a name I adore (also from LOTR), but I’m nowhere near brave enough for
[name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] - maybe too common for you?
I love word names but Cody doesn’t. But that’s okay because I use them in stories.
He likes:
Dorian – I’d love so much to use this name but 1) Damien and Dorian are too close 2) Since I can’t have it as a baby name, I used it for the name of a king in my second novel and he is the most weak willed, spineless pushover
Edmund
Sage – he said “eh maybe”
Sebastian
Sterling – this has been on and off as a middle name. It connects to my mom loosely.
Greyer – Thanks
He likes:
Castiel – We don’t watch Supernatural so this wasn’t anything I like it ^^ Yes, ALL the Cas names!
Tiberius – I was hoping he’d go for this one but he is actually turned off by Star Trek O_o He said “If we’re going with a captain we’re using Jean-Luc.”
Augustin – spelled Augusten because Augusten Burroughs is one of my favorite non-fiction authors
Peregrin(e) – we’re already considering this one ^^
Arathorn – It’s awesome but he said “It’s too fantastical”
Theodred – He prefer Theoden
[name_m]Odin[/name_m]
[name_m]Silvanus[/name_m] – I think I like [name_m]Silvan[/name_m] better though
Taranis – [name_u]Cody[/name_u] says it sounds like “Terrorist” O_O and more obscure “Terisc” (don’t know how to spell it but it’s a DnD creature)
[name_m]Theseus[/name_m] – He likes it, but is [name_m]Theseus[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] too much?
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_u]Oberon[/name_u]
[name_m]Acacius[/name_m] – I love it but some close family friends, one of them is [name_m]Acacius[/name_m]
Leofwine – I love it. He hates that it has wine in it facepalm Try a bunch of other [name_m]Leo[/name_m] names. He likes them, but not this one
[name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucius[/name_m]
[name_m]Theseus[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is a bit much. I was going to suggest [name_m]Perseus[/name_m], but then I remembered that you have a [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]! Is [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] the last name or middle?
What about Leobwin?
It’s the Ancient Germanic form of Leofwine. It takes away the word 'wine, but I’m not sure about the ‘b’.
I believe Leofwin is a variant of Leofwine. I can’t find anything about it on BehindtheName, but there was a medieval [name_m]Bishop[/name_m] named it.
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is our last name. We don’t care about repeating S sounds
[name_m]Theseus[/name_m] would be out anyway. I mentioned it to [name_u]Cody[/name_u] and he told me I was saying it wrong then we argued about it (not argued but disagreed.) He says theh-see-us and he won’t believe me when I go “No [name_u]Cody[/name_u]. That first E is ETA. It says EE. Thee-see-us”
He likes:
[name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] – which is already on our list
Leowin – he removed the F and the B
Leofric
[name_m]Leonid[/name_m]
[name_m]Leonti[/name_m]/y
Um, I was going to try and not put any repeats, but it looks like there are over 100 names suggested so far. I’d be here all day if I cross-referenced my suggestions against other suggestions, so I’ll just put some that we considered and ended up not using for some reason or another. You may like them, though.
Oh, also, there some in my signature that may interest you as well. They’re almost all from books or mythology, except a few nature, family or ‘just because we love them’ names.
Thanks! I had to leave off some (like [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] which is a friends son (also, spell check tried to make that [name_f]Katharyn[/name_f]??)
Hmm, [name_m]Thorin[/name_m] may be too much. I wouldn’t think so, the Th in [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is a hard T, yes? They are two syllable T names though. No to Thorondor? I’m so in love with it. Sometimes I want to replace [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] with Thorondor. He’s the [name_m]King[/name_m] of the Eagles from Tolkien. He’s like [name_m]Thorin[/name_m], with an added syllable. He can be a [name_m]Thor[/name_m], Thoron, Dor/[name_f]Dori[/name_f] (like [name_u]Dorian[/name_u]), [name_m]Oron[/name_m]… I don’t know. I just love it and keep hoping someone will use it. Maybe it will be me.
