The short name or the long one?

Ok we are just shy of 3 weeks of knowing the gender! We have our girl name set =) and I think we are set on a boy…kinda

[name]Nicolai[/name] [name]James[/name]
here is my indecision I’m liking [name]Nico[/name] much better than [name]Nicolai[/name]. DH wants to pretty much use [name]Nico[/name] daily but have [name]Nicolai[/name] “just” in case.
My thought to that is I’m [name]Alix[/name] just [name]Alix[/name] and love it that way, my mom was of the theory if you are only going to call the child that, name the child that. I never had an issue not having a “formal” name and once you get over being asked a million times your full name, people stop asking.

So is it worth having [name]Nicolai[/name] on everything, when in daily life he would never get called anything but [name]Nico[/name]?

I would use just [name]Nico[/name] then! GL!

[name]Nicolai[/name] [name]James[/name] has a lot of substance. I think it would be a great name for an adult. I would use [name]Nico[/name] as a nickname. I grew up [name]Eleanore[/name] nicknamed [name]Ellie[/name] and I didn’t use [name]Eleanore[/name] until after college but I really appreciate it now that I am grown. Good luck!

If your DH wants a full name, I say why not? It certainly doesn’t hurt him to have a longer version. If he never uses it, that’s fine, and if he does, well, that’s fine too. I think [name]Nico[/name] works well on it’s own, but [name]Nicolai[/name] is also handsome.

If you plan to call him [name]Nico[/name] exclusively, then I would name him [name]Nico[/name]. It’s a name in its own right (and a very popular one in [name]Austria[/name]).
