I feel like I’m getting no closer to choosing a name for our baby girl due in [name_f]October[/name_f]!
Our son is [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] but has only ever been known as [name_u]Teddy[/name_u].
Our favorite name is [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] but I can’t help but feel that it just doesn’t go with [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and I don’t like any nicknames for it. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] are just too far apart in terms of style?
DH likes [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and I like [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] but we both can’t love the other!
Our second favorite name is [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] nn. [name_f]Posy[/name_f]. I think that ([name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]) [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and [name_f]Posy[/name_f] sound cute together but I’m struggling with a middle name. I feel like if we used [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] I’d need something much less frilly as a middle name to counter it! Our last name begins with S so no middle names beginning with M (PMS!). I’m thinking something like [name_f]Briar[/name_f], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_u]Rue[/name_u], [name_f]Bea[/name_f] etc…
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] S
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] S
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] S
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f] S
Maybe you would like [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] or [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]? Or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]/[name_f]Giselle[/name_f]/[name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f], [name_f]Nimue[/name_f], [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Rosabelle[/name_f]/Rosabella…
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] could have the nns [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Fia[/name_f] (Phia), [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] etc. So it’s not totally incompatible with [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] do work very well together, it’s the the nickname that’s the issue. If it’s the name you both love, I definitely think you can make it work.
That being said, I much prefer [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] and the nn [name_f]Posy[/name_f]. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] are gorgeous, [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and [name_f]Posy[/name_f] is very sweet.
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Judith[/name_f]/[name_f]Judy[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Bethan[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Orla[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f]/[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] (yes, it is a little over the top, but I think it works)
(Any ‘O’ middle name also makes her initials POS, like [name_f]Posy[/name_f]. I think that’s quite fun, but I’m not sure it’s worth it)
I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] sound fantastic together, but if you can’t find a great nickname for [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], that is an issue. Personally, I would do [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] would be adorable. But [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is cute as well, perhaps [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f], [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], or [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f]? I also think it would be totally valid to name her [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Posy[/name_f], for the record. In fact, I think it sounds really cute. Best of luck!
I think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] would totally work! Yes, they have differences in tone (one is cozy, the other more dramatic), but I think it’s fine. I love [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]! I like the PPs’ suggestions of [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. I wish you could use [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] but POS isn’t great either.
I think [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] go great together and if I were you Id explore some nick names more.
That being said, [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] works great as well! Im hesitant with your mn choices for a few reasons:
[name_f]Briar[/name_f] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] are both too naturey for me when you put them with [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] is so so Hunger Games that I don’t think it’s wearable (even though i do think it flows nicely)
[name_f]Bea[/name_f] might work but I don’t think it flows well with [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] (it might if you add your ln)
One thing I will say is that [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]'s mn is long and classic… are you sure you want a short and spunky middle for your daughter?
My favourite is [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] but I definitely couldn’t agree to [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] (due to the hunger games). Due to your sons name being so traditional/classy, I’d choose something like [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], or [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], something along those lines.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] are just fine together! If you both love [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] best, then it’s the perfect name for your little one.
I like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]. I would use [name_f]Ella[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Elle[/name_f] as a nn to compliment [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. The whole arrangement works perfectly.
With that said, I love [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]/[name_f]Posy[/name_f].
I don’t consider it overly ‘frilly’ though so I like it with an ultra-feminine middle name.
I think [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is divine!
So sad that you don’t like any nicknames for [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]— [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], among others, are so cute imo, and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is so original!!
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is very cute, but if you’re looking for more suggestions, I’m thinking a little more [name_m]French[/name_m] classic, familia but not super popular names. Maybe a little vintage as well.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] a short list:
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_u]Laurie[/name_u] (more like a nickname?)
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
Angelie/[name_f]Angela[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Angie[/name_u]?)
[name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Francine[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicia[/name_f]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
Although nicknames can be fun and cute, I think the actual name is what counts. If you really like a name because of the possibility of the nicknames then maybe you should choose a shorter name so you aren’t conflicted between which nickname sounds best with your son’s. More than likely their nicknames will only be used within the immediate family so it shouldn’t matter much. Best of luck with the names!
Here are some other names that match with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] / [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]: [name_f]Jade[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Myra[/name_f]
Personally the names aren’t really my preferred type but this is what I think would sound nice with your son’s name and/or nickname.

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] “[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]” and [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f] “[name_f]Becky[/name_f]”

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] “[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]” and [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] “[name_f]Katie[/name_f]”*
My three favourites are:
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] “[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]” and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] “[name_f]Millie[/name_f]”
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] “[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]” and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] “[name_f]Delia[/name_f]/[name_f]Lyla[/name_f]/[name_f]Lila[/name_f]”
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] “[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]” and [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] “[name_f]Katie[/name_f]”
Wow thank you so much for the responses, they have been so helpful! I don’t actually dislike the nicknames for [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] I just find it such a shame to not use the name as I think it’s so beautiful! We never use [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] for our little boy and most people don’t even know it’s his real name but I like the fact that he has the option for when he’s older and we love the name [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. I think I will keep [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] on the cards though…!
[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]'s middle name [name_m]William[/name_m] is my husbands middle name, in keeping with that my middle name is [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] (It is also my Mum’s middle name) - so potentially [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]? I’m not sure, I’ve never been overly fond of [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] but I’m thinking it could be due a revival soon?!
I love [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] but like others have said, it is quite a lot! I also like the suggestion of [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and lots of the others!
Also just thought of [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (which means [name_f]Dawn[/name_f])- Only problem is that my pregnant best friend has said that she likes that name for a girl! Fingers crossed she has a boy
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] or [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] would be stunning! And I really like the idea that her middle name would be named after you, like your son and husband. [name_f]Roxana[/name_f], [name_f]Oriana[/name_f], [name_f]Zora[/name_f] and [name_f]Zorina[/name_f] all also mean dawn, but they’re a bit more out there. Personally I love [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f].
[name_f]Dawn[/name_f] is actually one of the first names I think of when I hear “no frills” so I think it’s a perfect balance to [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]!
I like [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m]; [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] are super sweet together! The suggestion of [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is pretty, too, but I don’t like [name_f]Posy[/name_f]/Prim and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] together. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], maybe?
