The Ultimate GP; or, why I like Cove as a name (and what about your GPs?)

First the question: [b]why do you like your GPs?[/B]

Next, the main point of the thread.

I first decided I kind of liked it last year, when I made [name_m]Cove[/name_m] a character in a roleplay (which wasn’t very good, but still). Then I revamped the thing into a novel that I really like working on! To me, [name_m]Cove[/name_m] is a sensitive, long-haired name, but it’s such a WORD that I’d never use it.
I’d love if you gave me middles for it (though it’s unusable), just for fun.

I really like [name_m]Cove[/name_m] also. I would only use it as a middle name. It has special meaning to us, actually anything related to the ocean/water.

I’m glad to see that someone else likes it.

[name_f]My[/name_f] boyfriend LOVES [name_m]Cove[/name_m], and it surprised me when he mentioned it because I’d never heard of it, or thought of it as a name before. His surname is a 2 syllable name with a hard C start though, so we formally nixed it last night. I would have been game for [name_m]Cove[/name_m] as a middle name, but he’d rather do an honouring middle.

I don’t have many GPs but I do adore [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] and [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m]… They’re just a little too intense to use, I think. They’re handsome, mysterious, bold and uncommon. I’ve had a soft spot for names that give off a bit of a witchy, magic, darker vibe.

I’m pretty hard-core when it comes to my naming intentions. I try not to let myself love a name if there was absolutely no chance of actually using it, it seems like a waste of time to me.

However! I do have GP’s in a way as there are a few names I really like even though I’d never use them as they’re: a) too popular for my liking OR b) don’t meet my strict naming rules.

There’re probably a few more but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Holly
Violet
Isabella
Yvaine

Rafferty
Fiero

[name_m]Cove[/name_m] reminds me of the Famous Five which is always great. I don’t have that many GPs, since I’ll usually use too popular to too out there names as middles. Some that I do waver on are:

[name_m]Icarus[/name_m]
Hemlock
[name_u]Cobalt[/name_u]
[name_m]Draco[/name_m]
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] (hate [name_m]Seb[/name_m])
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (hate [name_m]Nate[/name_m])

And girls:
[name_f]Medea[/name_f]
Belladonna
Cadmium
Arachne
Antiphony ([name_f]Anne[/name_f]-[name_f]Tiffany[/name_f])
Mist
Melisma
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] (pn. Ee-so-bell)

Most of mind are related to the beach or some other nature-related thing! Haha.

Like: [name_u]Haven[/name_u], [name_f]Emerald[/name_f], [name_f]Breeze[/name_f], [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] (not [name_f]Oceane[/name_f]), Harbour, [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Snow[/name_f], [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] (most people on NB say this is hard to pull of unless you’re Spanish,) [name_f]Solstice[/name_f] (in the middle,) [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] and [name_m]Cliff[/name_m]. I also kind of like [name_f]Star[/name_f]; but would never use it. Many of mine I wouldn’t use because they’re seen as trendy and are the kind of names that often get seen as lower class. Not that I care about class, you know what I mean!

@sodallas3–[name_f]Star[/name_f] is my middle name.
Thanks, everyone.

It’s really pretty

[name_m]Cove[/name_m] has a really pleasant sound! Here are a few of my many GPs. [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] has a longshot for future middle name use…[name_f]Oona[/name_f] has a longshot at future first name use, actually, so I’m not sure how guilty that is, but it’s way more unusual than what I usually go in for.

Boys:
[name_m]Ransom[/name_m] & [name_m]Prosper[/name_m] - I love the sounds of these names, and the religious associations with them.

Girls:
[name_f]Oona[/name_f] & Sitara - [name_f]Oona[/name_f] I once mentioned to my husband as a name that was “fun to say” and he fell in love with it - his usual reaction to any name is “whatever, I don’t get what the big deal is with names.” So since then I’ve had a real soft spot for it. I didn’t dislike it before, but didn’t care either way. Sitara relates to stars, and my grandmother’s middle name was a star name.

Thank you!

[name_f]My[/name_f] coworker’s son-in-law is named [name_m]Cove[/name_m]! I thought it was a bit odd at first but now I barely notice it as anything but his name. I’ve only met him once, but he was nice, a bit shy, and he’s good at gardening and likes the outdoors.

[name_f]My[/name_f] biggest guilty pleasure names are [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f] and [name_u]November[/name_u], both for girls.

I have a lot of GP names!

GIRLS:
[name_f]Lore[/name_f]
[name_u]Ever[/name_u]
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f] - [name_f]My[/name_f] husband loves this and we’d probably use it if I gave the ok.
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Sunday[/name_f]

BOYS:
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
[name_m]Caius[/name_m]
[name_f]East[/name_f]
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m]
[name_m]Stefan[/name_m]
[name_m]Roman[/name_m]

If you love [name_m]Cove[/name_m], at one point in my life I loved Cave. Yes, Cave. It sounded wonderful and it was slightly strange but familiar. I always thought as “you would cave in…” And not a hollow place in the ground.

I don’t have much GP names as I’m very bold and gutsy. All the names I love and like it’s for a reason and I would 100% use them. [name_m]Even[/name_m] Cave.

But there is a lot of names are wouldn’t use because they are taken by others in my circle and I just picture their child and not my own. And that’s whats bothering me now because apparently they all becoming baby name experts. Ugh.

[name_m]Cove[/name_m] is awesome! [name_f]My[/name_f] GP I’d actually used if my boyfriend loved them. But he does not…

I absolutely love the name [name_m]Floyd[/name_m]. I love the sound, I love pink floyd, I love that it’s unusual.
Same with [name_m]Conan[/name_m], plus I like the barbarian reference.

For girls it’s [name_f]Indigo[/name_f].

[name_m]Cove[/name_m] seems a bit cold to me. Not sure why, I think I could grow to like it though. I can only think of a couple of my guilty pleasures of the top of my head at the moment which are [name_m]Crew[/name_m], [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] (boy), [name_u]North[/name_u] (boy), [name_f]Indigo[/name_f] (boy), [name_u]Dune[/name_u] (boy, pronounced the same as [name_u]June[/name_u]) and [name_u]Keats[/name_u]. I have been loving Joss lately as well.
