The Wonderfully Brave Girls - Continued

My top 3 would be [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] and [name_f]Isis[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] and [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] are absolutely amazing together, they compliment each other without overshadowing and are equal in beauty and substance imo

Okay, I love [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] again!! I don’t know what I was thinking last night, it was quite late when I replied to you and I think I was crazy! [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] was gorgeous in that movie and now you have me picturing that too, so I’m alright again. I think [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] might replace Nimue on my top five for you. It’s beautiful and I’m insane! Can I blame exhaustion??

[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] is still probably my favorite, but out of the others…

  1. [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
  2. [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]
  3. [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
It was really close between [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] and [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f], I think depending on the day my choice for which was first would change.

Runners up would be:
4. [name_f]Jezebel[/name_f]
5. [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
6. Proserpine

I would chose Niniane over Nimue, definitely.

Shout out for Nimue! Soft but strong and utterly beautiful. It’s my favourite, followed by [name_f]Isis[/name_f] and Hecate.

Well, I was just popping on to comment and decided to read the last page before commenting. Good thing since the name list is updated. I’m sad to see [name_f]Boudicca[/name_f] and [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] are gone, though I suppose the point was to eliminate. My SO recently discovered Boadicea and has been singing her praises the last few days, and talking about a daughter named Boadicea. It’s a favorite here right now, so I was sad to see it taken off your list. Onward!

My top five with [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] are:

[name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] & [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]
[name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] & [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]
[name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] & Nimue
[name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] & Gwenllian
[name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] &

Oh this is hard. I’m debating Bradamante, [name_f]Circe[/name_f] and Hecate and I can’t decide. Sorry. Let me form some concrete thoughts on the names and maybe by the end I’ll decide.

Bradamante- what a namesake! She belongs with Boadicea, and if you can’t keep one, I feel the other has to stay. She’s wonderfully brave, for sure. Can you get any braver than Bradamante? Doubtful. She’s leading the army, clutching her lance, her hair blowing in the wind. There’s that ‘tee’ ending like [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], but I don’t think it’s a deal breaker. I would call her Brante. Sort of like [name_f]Bronte[/name_f].

[name_f]Circe[/name_f]- I really don’t think I’ll be able to decide which name I prefer. [name_f]Circe[/name_f] is awesome! She’s such a wicked little name. There’s ambition and secrets in her eyes, and she has a spine of steel. To put it bluntly, she doesn’t take shit from anyone. I love [name_f]Circe[/name_f]! I’m not crazy about the similarities to [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] in sound (the ‘ee’ ending) or the back to back Greek goddess thing, so maybe save it for later? I do love this name though. :frowning: I don’t care for [name_f]Cece[/name_f] as a nickname, as that feels so different from [name_f]Circe[/name_f] to me. I’m not sure [name_f]Circe[/name_f] needs a nickname.

[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]- I can think of few women who could give [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] a run for her money, but [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] certainly can. [name_m]Power[/name_m], sensuality, and laughter that echoes through hallways. [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] does what she wants. [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Cat[/name_f] and Panther are great nicknames.

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] or Gwenllian- I love them both equally, however, I can’t see [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] and [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] as sisters. Besides their namesakes not meshing, it’s just too over the top to have two Arthurian queens as sisters, especially two such well known names. The average person might not know many of the other females, but [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] and [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] have inspired a sea of other works. If [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] is a must in your house, [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] just won’t work. Sorry! :frowning: Gwenllian, however, does! And how! I used Gwenllian in a fantasy novel once, and to this day she’s still one of my favorite characters, so I have a deep love of this name. She’s charging right alongside Bradamante, and she is fierce!

Hecate- I only have two issues with Hecate. For one, as a [name_u]North[/name_u] American, I know for a fact most of the people I know wouldn’t get this name at all. I’ve never been to Europe, so you’ll have to be the judge of the people around you. I know a Hecate in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], the US or Mexico would get a lot of wrinkled foreheads when they see or hear this name. Two, this feels like an [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] name to me, not a [name_u]Winter[/name_u]. Regardless, I love it, and as I mentioned, it’s one I’m struggling with eliminating. She can certainly stand up to [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], though perhaps she’s best reserved for a daughter down the road? Two Greek goddesses one right after the other might make naming future children more difficult. I’d take this one out of the running and save her for later.

[name_f]Isis[/name_f]- I do like this, quite a lot actually, but it’s not making my blood sing so I don’t have a lot to say.

[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]- I won’t say much here since she’s safe. [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] is delicious. She’s just bursting with magic. I love [name_f]Mora[/name_f] as a nickname.

Nimue or Niniane- Now, you may think I’m a hypocrite, adding Nimue to the top five and eliminating [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], but hear me out. Everybody knows [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] and [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]. I’m not convinced the average person knows Nimue, at least not by this name. Plus, she wasn’t at odds with [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], like [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] was. I prefer Nimue over Niniane because there’s something off-putting about the ‘Nini’ sound. My favorite is Nyneve, but Nimue is my second favorite. I don’t think a lot of nicknames come intuitively, so her nickname would have to come either later, from her personality, or have something to do with her middle names. Maybe Mimi?

Hmm, I’m running out of time, and I’m not crazy about the other names so I’ll let other people discuss those. I do love Tinuviel, but I think it’s best in the middle. And there was a Terpsichore, once upon a time, which I day dream about. Also, whatever happened to [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f]? She would be in my top five if she were still an option. I can’t use it, so I keep hoping someone else will.

I guess I decided my number five name is:

[name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] & Bradamante

[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]- beautiful,classic yet modern… [name_f]Love[/name_f] it!
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]- this has been on my list for years but I don’t think I’ll end up using it. I think this is my favourite of yours. A lot of good nick name potential ; calli, lee, ly, lio
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]- very romantic, love this too!

I’ll be back to reply properly later, just wanted to say to my redwood faerie; [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] is still on the list! I wrote my list and when I hit post I saw I forgot about [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]! And it took such a long time for it to go through, and then [name_f]Dita[/name_f] woke up and I had to deal with her, and I forgot all about it. [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] is definitely staying. She’s in the same gang as N, M and G, but she’s separate as well. And [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is going off, as I like Gwenllian more and Husband said okay.

I really like [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], [name_f]Circe[/name_f], [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], and [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]

I was going to include [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] and [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] in my top three (as I previously have) but now I realize they sound a bit… Matchy with [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]. I don’t know why, they just do. Haha So, I altered my list from last time.

Cool, Tinuviel’s back on the list? Funnn

My top 3, OTHER than the magnificent [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]:
Gwenllian
[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] (definitely a good match for [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f])
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]

Also, I prefer Nimue.

Yay Tinuviel is back!

So now my top 5 are [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], [name_f]Isis[/name_f], [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f], Tinuviel, Proserpina

I would choose Niniane over Nimue and [name_f]Isis[/name_f] over [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]

[name_m]Little[/name_m] Nuvi has returned!

You’re killing me, Smalls! I love too many of them!

[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
[name_f]Circe[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
Tinuviel / Niniane. I can’t pick. Nuvi and [name_f]Nina[/name_f]. Sigh. You sure you don’t want to have six more girls?

[name_f]Morgana[/name_f], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] and [name_f]Guinivere[/name_f] are my favorites. [name_f]Love[/name_f] the nn Panther BTW!!

Well, [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] is my favourite, so I’m glad she’s currently the name most likely. As far as your updated list goes, I’m still loving…

[name_f]Circe[/name_f]
[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] - In my mind this is nicer than Gwenllian, but to each her own!
[name_f]Isis[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] - Still hearing ‘is old’. I prefer [name_f]Isis[/name_f].
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
Tinuviel - Didn’t like this originally, but sounds lovely with [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f].

And I’m still disliking…

Bradamante - Too masculine as many others have also said.
Gwenllian - This one is okay, but I prefer [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f].
Hecate - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t want to be mean, but this sounds kind of ugly to me.
Nimue/Niniane - Nimue is my choice because of pronunciation issues with Niniane.
Proserpina
Pulzella
[name_f]Yavanna[/name_f]

Hey there Faerie-mama,

My favorite three for you are:
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Mora[/name_f])-> though [name_f]Morwenna[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]) was an awesome suggestion and is probably currently my favorite. It has that great dark, mystic power with more faerie-light.
Gwenllian (nn [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]) -> I love the quite power and romance in this name. I think it would really suite you guys well.
Hippolyta (nn [name_f]Polly[/name_f]) -> I mean, how can one not love the Amazon-queen? I love her strength and independence.

I like:
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f] ([name_f]Callie[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f])
[name_f]Circe[/name_f] ([name_f]Cece[/name_f])
[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] ([name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], Panther, [name_f]Cat[/name_f])
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] ([name_f]Gwen[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f])
[name_f]Isis[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] ([name_f]Izzie[/name_f], Sola, [name_m]Sol[/name_m], [name_m]Solly[/name_m])
Nimue (Immie)/ Niniane (nin-i-A-nuh) [name_f]Nina[/name_f], Inn
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] (uh-LIMP-ee-uh) [name_f]Pia[/name_f] -> my only issues is the combo of [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] and [name_f]Olympia[/name_f].
Proserpine/Proserpina ([name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Pia[/name_f], Prosie) -> I rather like Proserpina nn [name_f]Posie[/name_f]/Prosie.

I think you have better:
[name_f]Boudicca[/name_f], Bradamante -> I’m starting to think I just don’t like B- names for girls.
Hecate ([name_f]Cat[/name_f], [name_f]Katie[/name_f]) -> Actually what I like least are the [name_f]Cate[/name_f]/[name_f]Kate[/name_f]/[name_f]Katie[/name_f] nn’s. There just so bla.
[name_f]Jezebel[/name_f] ([name_f]Belle[/name_f], [name_u]Jess[/name_u], Ezee) -> I just don’t like this name. It has nothing to do with it being a “slutty” name. It just doesn’t sound nice to me.
Nausicaa ([name_u]Kay[/name_u], [name_f]Kaia[/name_f]) -> sounds too much like nauseous.

Bradamante- All I see is [name_m]Brad[/name_m]…
[name_f]Circe[/name_f]- I like this best in the middle.
[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]- This is beautiful, but I feel like it’s really attached to the historical figure… Like naming a baby Condoleeza or [name_m]Elvis[/name_m], but cooler.
Gwenllian- Like, but not love. It’s a nice name but I think you could do better.
Hecate- Ditto Gwenllian.
[name_f]Isis[/name_f]- [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Isis[/name_f]! This name is beautiful. I’d love to see sisters [name_f]Isis[/name_f] and [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]. This is my favorite.
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]- Ooh, it’s so tough to choose between this and [name_f]Isis[/name_f]! In the end, I’d have to pick [name_f]Isis[/name_f] because of her awesome namesake.
Nimue- [name_m]Just[/name_m] like [name_f]Circe[/name_f], I think it’s gorgeous but would prefer to see it in the middle. [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] [name_f]Circe[/name_f] Nimue?
Niniane- All I hear is ninny…
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]- Now that I think about it, I don’t love it that much. Reminds me too much of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
Proserpina- Pretty! It reminds me of a character in a book I read who was named Prosperine. The book was great (I Know This Much is [name_u]True[/name_u] by [name_u]Wally[/name_u] Lamb)
Pulzella- [name_m]Just[/name_m] makes me think of the word pulse…
Tinuviel- As much as I like the sound, I think it would be much cooler to be named after mythological figure that was believed in by lots of non-fictional people.
[name_f]Yavanna[/name_f]- Ditto Tinuviel, though I actually [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this one.

Can’t wait to make combos… Good luck!

Please have twin girls. That would be awesome.

But in all seriousness, I can’t decide if I’m Team [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f], Team Gwenllian or Team [name_f]Isis[/name_f]. [name_f]Cleo[/name_f]'s probably my objective favorite with [name_f]Dita[/name_f]. But I’m distantly related to historic Gwenllian (and also to [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f]. Fun facts!) and I also feel some [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]-solidarity there, and I also just like it…but then [name_f]Isis[/name_f]. So gorgeous! I can’t choose. And then Nimue is also great…I love the idea of a Nimue nn Immie–everyone would assume Immie was for [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] but then bam! Nimue. And I also adore [name_m]Nim[/name_m]. And Tinuviel’s back…

But I will argue the [name_f]Isis[/name_f]>[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] case. That one’s no contest.

  1. [name_f]Isis[/name_f] = more geographical diversity with your other names.
  2. [name_f]Isis[/name_f] is a better namesake, [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. She’s the goddess of so many cool things! Whereas [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]'s death is kind of lame, and [name_f]Dina[/name_f] also gets a [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]-vibe from the name, so it’s not just me. I guess I don’t know as much about [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] as I do about [name_f]Isis[/name_f], but still.
  3. [name_f]Isis[/name_f] is just aesthetically better. That’s very subjective, of course, but I prefer the look and sound of [name_f]Isis[/name_f] by a mile. And it has a much more tangible (for lack of a better word) and unique vibe.
  4. Not a matchy ending with [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f].

And that’s all I can think of right now. I feel like this post is very rambly and weird, but it’s late and I’ve spent all day wrangling preteen thespians.

I’m totally jealous that you and your Husband can agree on so many names!

My picks to round out a Top 5 with [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]:

[name_f]Circe[/name_f] - a study in opposites that work
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] - two sexy ladies
Tinuviel - it sounds so magical!
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] - and I just have to say, it would be a CRIME if this girl did not know how to shoot a bow/arrow.

Top 3…

Gwenllian - I just love the sound this name makes, I could say it over and over all day long!
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Mora[/name_f], [name_f]Ana[/name_f], or [name_f]Ani[/name_f] as nicknames. Beautiful and strong.
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] - [name_f]Pia[/name_f] is great, and love the O- sound in this name.

Also loving [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f], and [name_f]Isis[/name_f]

I am always so excited when I see you’ve posted again. I will quietly miss [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] but rejoice in the fact that [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] is still a favorite! These are my 5 favorites, in order I think. I keep moving [name_f]Yavanna[/name_f] and Nimue back and forth. I love the magic of Nimue, but I feel that [name_f]Yavanna[/name_f] is more “right.”

[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] - Our dark, velvety beauty! Still top of my list. Have I mentioned that I think I would let you name my grandkids? I like [name_f]Mora[/name_f] as a nn.
Nimue - Mystical, the name itself sounds magical. [name_f]Immy[/name_f] is darling.
[name_f]Yavanna[/name_f] - Oh, I can just see this little girl standing strong with the winds whipping at her command. Yaya is a cute nn.
Gwenllian - I love [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] but Gwenllian has a stronger feeling to me.
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] - Beautiful and romantic and I love the name but not strong enough for a winter girl.

Popping in for a quick top five!
[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] - you well know how much I love to sing her praises
Tinuviel - Nuvi’s back!! huzzah ^^
Nimue - my vast preference over Niniane, which shares too many syllables with [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] for my taste
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] - my dark horse favorite for you, watery and tragically beautiful
[name_f]Yavanna[/name_f] - out of nowhere! it may just be the newness, but I’m really feeling this name ^
^

And one suggestion: Since you seem to have a thing for the Biblical bad girls, what about [name_f]Tamar[/name_f]? A resourceful self-sufficient woman with an exotic name referencing rivers and date palm trees.

The [name_f]Tamar[/name_f] story: She was widowed when her husband was killed for his wickedness before they had any children. According to custom, her father-in-law sent his second son to give [name_f]Tamar[/name_f] children so the family line could continue. Instead, the second son took advantage of her, deliberately withdrawing because he didn’t want to give her children he couldn’t claim, and he too was killed. Superstitious, the father-in-law promised her his third son once he came of age, then went back on his word, leaving [name_f]Tamar[/name_f] widowed and childless. So when [name_f]Tamar[/name_f] learned that her father-in-law was traveling in the area, she dressed up as a prostitute, veiled her face so he wouldn’t recognize her, and solicited him by the roadside. She took his staff and seal as collateral for later payment, then disappeared with the objects before the payment could be delivered. Three months later, when the unwed and pregnant [name_f]Tamar[/name_f] was about to be put to death for adultery, she produced the staff and seal. Of course when her father-in-law realized he was the one who got her pregnant, he couldn’t very well put her to death. She had twin boys, one of whom grew up to be a king of [name_u]Persia[/name_u], an ancestor of [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m]. [name_f]Tamar[/name_f] is one of two women who is mentioned in the genealogy of [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] [name_m]Christ[/name_m]. I’ve always found that fascinating.

Anyway, I think [name_f]Tamar[/name_f] could be a perfect option for you, especially as a middle for [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]! Swoon…
