The Wonderfully Brave Girls

[name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] and…

  1. [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]
  2. [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]
  3. [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
  4. [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
  5. [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f]
That was hard to narrow down! There were so many good names!

I really like [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], but another A name and another Greek goddess seems a bit too themey to me.

[name_f]Bellicent[/name_f]
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
[name_f]Circe[/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]

Of your list, these are my favorite… If you want more ideas…
another idea… what about Boadicea?

Oh man I missed this for a few hours and it’s 3 pages already! Ok here we go. You know I don’t favor [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] but I hope you still forgive me for that. I will try to make an alternate Top 5 (in order?) and not ask too many questions, but you know I probably will. Maybe I can edit some of them out… Haha.

1.) [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]- Oh look a question already. You previously thought there wasn’t enough to her aside from obvious Egyptian history, has that changed? This was originally Husband’s suggestion if I remember correctly so it gets points there. To state the obvious pros: It’s pretty, it’s long, it’s feminine but not too girly, it doesn’t start with an A, and it definitely holds it’s ground next to big sis [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]. An obvious but maybe unnecessary con: If you do at some point decide to outlaw same-letter-sibling-names again then this will take [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] out of the running (which I am ok with, but I’m not sure you are). All of that aside I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] THIS NAME. I think she stands for strength and beauty and courage. A lady who takes charge and knows what she needs to do to get where she’s going. If Aphro is the surf than [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] is the sand. Water and [name_f]Earth[/name_f] combining to make a perfectly lovely ‘Irish Twins playing on a beach’ image in my mind.

2.) [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f]- Same question, is she going to be enough for you? I think I have sung her praises multiple times in past threads. (And I just realized how long that first one was so I’m gonna try to keep it short.) I love this, love her with Roo, the length, the vowels, everything. She was almost my #1.

3.) [name_f]Olympia[/name_f]- Again, I have championed her in your last thread, and I still fully support it. I think it’s a great, slightly subtle connection to [name_f]Dita[/name_f].

4.) [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]- Was unexpected but I have no idea why I didn’t see this one coming. [name_m]Lancelot[/name_m] has been removed as a boy option, correct? I must admit I prefer [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] to [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] so I’m sticking with this version, but I have full confidence that [name_f]Italy[/name_f] can handle it. Not too much to say, but I like it.

5.) [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]- I thought you didn’t quite like her early on? Ugh yes, I realize I am asking the same questions over and over sorry! Another mythical name to go with, but not match, [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]. I am all for [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], but want to point out: She was at one point a mn option for [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] and didn’t even make the cut there… I’m not sure you are in love with her enough as a first, and maybe not even as a mn. Though I do like her and think she fits in well.

Honorable mention (aka keep as middles list):
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]- Miss woodsy [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is my absolute favorite ever, but I think an A-name goddess is too much too soon right now. Either save or make a mn.
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]- Very pretty, I’m glad she’s getting her second chance but you have stronger ones. I’d move her and her pretty Greek E to a middle spot.
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]- I just hear that damn song! If you want her to be a strong woman statement name, put her in the middle as a “normal” one and voila.
[name_f]Isis[/name_f]- I do love this but I think it’s just too short next to [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]. A middle name she is if you ask me. Not sure why I just turned piratey for that…
Niniane- Put in the middle. If you’re gonna drop the ‘same first letters’ rule, then I think you should try to nix same ending letters. =(
Silmarien- Too close to [name_u]Marian[/name_u]. Maid Aphro-D takes care of that sound in a name combo if you ask me!

I love [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] for you. It’s got such a haunting quality to it. [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] makes me think of a storm at sea, all dark waters and waves crashing against jagged rocks. [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] has the energy of lightning. It’s a powerful name, and a magical one thanks to the Arthurian legends. I think it’s perfect for you.

I also like Bellicent, [name_f]Circe[/name_f], [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f], Hecate, [name_f]Hypatia[/name_f], [name_f]Olympia[/name_f], and [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] for [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]'s sister. None of them feel “right” like [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] does though. I want to like [name_f]Nefertiti[/name_f] because I had this strange obsession with the Amarna Period in third and fourth grades. It feels more like a middle name choice.

Out of your list, I think the keepers are:

[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] (wasn’t she kind of evil???)
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]/[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f]
[name_f]Isis[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
[name_f]Nefertiti[/name_f]
Niniane
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
[name_f]Zenobia[/name_f]

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]! she’s on my list as a middle
To make a top 5 the other 4 I’d choose would be
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]- [name_f]Love[/name_f], [name_f]Love[/name_f], [name_f]Love[/name_f]! (I’m a sucker for [name_u]Cal[/name_u]- and [name_m]Cas[/name_m]- names) She sounds like a sister of [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]
[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] - Perfect with [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]! [name_m]Just[/name_m] as strong, similar in length, but isn’t a goddess and doesn’t end with the -ee sound so the names sound like individuals, not part of a set.
[name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] - She was on your list last time so she seems like she should stay if that makes any sense  I also like the idea of sister names starting with A&Z
[name_f]Vashti[/name_f] - Definantly a strong, independent woman!

I like these 5 the most:

[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Electra[/name_f]
[name_f]Zenobia[/name_f]

[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] is very pretty. Excluding [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] (which would make the list), these are my top five:

1.) [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
2.) [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
3.) [name_f]Hypatia[/name_f]
4.) [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f]
5.) [name_f]Isis[/name_f]

Random suggestion. Have you heard of the name Berengaria? She was the wife to [name_m]Richard[/name_m] I. She went with him on crusade. I thought it had a nice mix of strong, unusual, and whimsical qualities that might suit your taste. [name_m]Just[/name_m] an idea. I like your newest list.

Eek! I keep missing your list updates. I can’t even blame a honeymoon now!

My favorites from your updated list in no particular order

[name_f]Zenobia[/name_f]- glad to see she’s back. I can see a baby [name_f]Zee[/name_f] in your future, and this name makes me picture a woman with her hands up after climbing a cliff. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t know why I picture that, but I do.

[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]- so wonderful. I like [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] best with [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]. I loved the way you described the name in a previous thread. You mentioned you can’t see yourself without a [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], and she seems like a natural sister to [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], while still being its own name with its own strength and personality.

[name_f]Vashti[/name_f]. Her story in the Bible is just amazing. What an incredible namesake, and poor thing gets overlooked in the overall story. My mom’s best friend is named [name_f]Vashti[/name_f] and she is one of the most amazing women I know. She was the inspiration behind me becoming a teacher, so I have nothing but good associations with the name.

[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]- stunning name. So powerful. It’s a don’t mess with me name. I really love it. It’s my husband’s favorite from your list. (Is it weird that I go over your name lists with him? He is impressed with your name style… If only I could convince him to be a bit more adventurous with our own names. Lol). He says that with a sister named [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], she needs a bad a** name.

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]- it was was hard to pick my 5th name, but she won. She beat out Niniane which I have always loved too. Hmm.

Runner up.
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]. Maybe because I love the idea of a [name_f]Callie[/name_f] or because I’m obsessed with names that end in an ee sound or because its an awesome name.

Phew. That was long. But I so love your name lists!

I love [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]! Due to the fact that I know tons of little Morgans, it doesn’t feel quite as special as [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], but it’s a lovely name all the same.

My top 5:

  1. [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f]- This is my absolute favorite on your list! It is gorgeous with [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], has a beautiful sound and an incredible namesake. What’s not to love? Great nn options, a fun initial… I would be delighted myself to carry this name. I see this as gold and red, burning incense… Ancient, exotic, spiritual…
  2. [name_f]Hypatia[/name_f]- This is also a gorgeous choice. I see this as gentle pools of teal and lavender, princesses brushing their hair in its reflection. All pearls and lilies to me.
  3. [name_f]Olympia[/name_f]- I like [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] a lot. It’d be so sweet- [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] and Roo? [name_m]How[/name_m] cute! [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] seems queenly to me, like a mountain stretching through the clouds.
  4. [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]- [name_m]How[/name_m] could you go wrong with [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]? I see a red-haired tomboy princess picking berries in the woods.
  5. [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]- Gorgeous! All soapstone carvings and ancient architecture to me, but doesn’t match [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] the way [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] does.

I don’t have your (and previous posters’) marvelous knack for imagery, so I’m just going to go through this the way I usually do.

My top 5 from your list:

  1. [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] - so stunning, and I don’t think it’s too much next to [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], but still holds her own. I think it’s a perfect first choice!

  2. [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] - I also love the idea of A&Z as sister names, and it’s different enough from [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] but still similar enough to make sense. Plus [name_f]Dita[/name_f]-Roo and [name_f]Zena[/name_f]-[name_f]Bee[/name_f] are absolutely adorable nicknames

  3. [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] - this is a personal favorite that I would love to see someone else use. My only hesitation is that Mt. [name_m]Olympus[/name_m] was the home of the Greek gods, yes? So it’s sort of connected to [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] in that way, but then again, it’s a nice connection. Not too overt.

  4. Aradia - I think this is lovely. Like I said, I’m not gifted with imagery like some of you ladies, but as far as colors go, Aradia is bright, glowing gold like looking into the sun. It’s just such a gorgeous, radiant, peaceful vibe I get from this.

  5. [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] - I agree two goddess names starting with A may be too much too soon, so I would suggest [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f]. It would work in [name_f]Italy[/name_f], and she has a great namesake. [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] Gentileschi, one of the first recorded women painters. She was one of very few nobles daughters to be formally trained in painting, unfortunately raped by her tutor, but she actually accused him, withstood trial against him, and won, which was no easy feat back then. She went on to have a pretty successful painting career and painted some strong females in her subject matter. ‘[name_f]Judith[/name_f] Slaying Holofernes’ is one of her paintings… she has a bit of a sad background I suppose but I see her as a victorious figure because no matter how adverse the circumstances, she held her ground. Whoops, sorry for the novel… I’m an art history nerd, lol!

I do have to say, I disagree about [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]. I just find it way too much with [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], JMO. Same with [name_f]Nefertiti[/name_f] and [name_f]Isis[/name_f], and to a degree [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], which is why I suggest [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] though. Each to her own, though, and I’m sure whatever you end up with will be fanciful and wonderful and gorgeous. Good luck!

I love the name [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], [name_f]Isis[/name_f], and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] and [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] make a nice sibset.

I am so glad that [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] is still the front runner - I adore her!

These two are my other favorites:

[name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] - I think this name is spectacular. Exotic and elegant and dark and velvety.
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] - I’ve always loved this name and think [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] and [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] are lovely together. It is not as velvety as [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] or [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f].

Now on to the others I like:
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] - Exotic and romantic
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] - Wonderful name but starts a trend with [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]
[name_f]Elettra[/name_f] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] this spelling!
[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] - Still a great option!

[name_f]Helen[/name_f]-She was beautiful enough to cause the Trojan War. Also, was the name of [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_m]Keller[/name_m], and I can’t think of anyone much braver than her.

I had less trouble with your girls list than your boys list. :stuck_out_tongue:

My number one is [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]. I’m sad [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] is out, but [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] is swoon worthy with [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f].

The other four (in no particular order):
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Zenobia[/name_f]
[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]

I like:

[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
Bradamante
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
[name_f]Circe[/name_f]
Hecate
[name_f]Isis[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
[name_f]Nefertiti[/name_f]
Niniane
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybilla[/name_f]

No Belphoebe? No Zephyrine? No Leontine?

[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] [name_f]Circe[/name_f] Bradamante
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] [name_f]Isis[/name_f] Niniane
[name_f]Sybilla[/name_f] Hecate [name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f] Bradamante [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f]
Bradamante [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] Niniane
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] Bradamante [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f]

Please don’t use [name_f]Circe[/name_f] she was a sorceress who turned men into pigs.

Favorites:
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] - I’ve always loved this name
[name_f]Pandora[/name_f]
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f]
Nausicaa - I’m torn on this one. I love it, yet I don’t at the same time.
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]

Wow I love your names.
In particular I love

  • [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] (probably my favourite, but it has personal significance for me so I’m probably biased)
  • [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Circe[/name_f] (another favourite)
  • [name_f]Isis[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f]
    and I love [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] too.
    Good luck choosing!

I will be very short and say [name_f]Circe[/name_f] is #1. I know how much you love it so be brave and no doubt!
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] is my one favorite goddesses but of course now with [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] is not my cup of tea(remindes me of one Russian word, not offensive but anyway…), [name_f]Nefertiti[/name_f] and [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] don’t sound very suitable in my opinion…
I love [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f](and [name_f]Gwenore[/name_f]), Elletra and [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f]…But they are all not [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]! [name_f]Circe[/name_f] is 100% your thing and as we all said a million times, it makes great set with [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f].
P.S. I tried to judge not by only my own opinion but to take your point of view as well. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] I was of a little help:).
