I know more than a few of you hate [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] and Haeyghleegh (I’m with you), but what are the non-made-up names with good spellings that you can’t stand?
P.S.: Let’s avoid arguments about [name_u]Messiah[/name_u] and [name_m]Cohen[/name_m] and the like…
All of the i and y girls’ name that were popular when I was growing up: [name_f]Brittany[/name_f], [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], [name_u]Kelly[/name_u], etc. And all of the “ustin” names - [name_m]Justin[/name_m], [name_u]Dustin[/name_u], [name_m]Austin[/name_m]. I also have an unnatural hatred of the name [name_m]John[/name_m].
[name_u]Teagan[/name_u], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_m]Duncan[/name_m], [name_u]Rowen[/name_u] (both girl and boy), and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].
[name_m]Just[/name_m] because a name isn’t your style doesn’t make it “the worst.” When I was in first grade, I knew a girl named Jealousy. (It wasn’t spelled that way.) That’s “the worst.” Not [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m], and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f].
I don’t know why, but I really hate the name [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]/[name_u]August[/name_u]…It just sounds icky to me. Haha. It’s hard to explain.
I also really don’t like most noun names…like [name_u]Story[/name_u] and [name_u]Lyric[/name_u]. And I’m not a fan of “cutesy” names like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] or [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]. You know? While I’m thinking about it, I don’t like most P names. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] or [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] or [name_u]Parker[/name_u]…I don’t know. [name_m]Just[/name_m] ick.
I also really, really dislike boys names on girls. I know [name_u]Riley[/name_u] is more popular on girls names, but I just don’t like it. It’s always going to be a boys name to me.
For girls, I am not a fan of anything with an “ee” sound at the end. I prefer names that sound more serious and sophisticated. I’ve always loved that my parents had the foresight to name both my sister and I names like this. We will continue this practice.
I don’t like contrived spellings, particularly as an avenue to make classic names sound different. Use of “y” is place of a’s and i’s is particularly egregious in my book.
I don’t like trendy names that will ID a person as being named in a particular decade.
I instantly thought of occupational names like [name_m]Baker[/name_m], [name_u]Gardener[/name_u], [name_u]Sailor[/name_u], [name_f]Poet[/name_f]…ugh. Place and word names sound ridiculous to me. There always are better names, which are really names.
I don’t get all the craziness about [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. They don’t have a nice sound to me.
Also, kr8yve spellings are really nasty. For example, parents like a beautiful name like [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], but they want to make it unique and spell it Kheghttlynne! Poor child. And those trendy-made up names ([name_u]Jaidyn[/name_u], Kenzylyn, Raylyn) are idiotic.
Many people adore [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] and [name_f]Ethel[/name_f], but I found them as dated as corsets. The easiest way to ruin [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] (not my favourite names, but they are ok) is transforming them to ugly [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f].
For boys, there is [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], which I consider a ruined [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]. Last, I hate names starting with P and Sh.
I guess that’s all.
All the [name_u]August[/name_u] names just sound awful to me and the nickname [name_u]Gus[/name_u] just makes it 10x worse. I also absolutely detest [name_m]Norman[/name_m] and have done ever since I watched Fireman [name_u]Sam[/name_u] as a toddler and wondered why the boy in it had such an awful name.
Other awful names I can think of:
[name_u]Barry[/name_u]/[name_u]Gary[/name_u] - but not [name_m]Harry[/name_m]
[name_u]Billy[/name_u]/[name_m]Willy[/name_m]
[name_m]Egbert[/name_m]/[name_m]Engelbert[/name_m]
[name_m]Marmaduke[/name_m]
[name_f]Bertha[/name_f]
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f]
[name_f]Gertrude[/name_f]
[name_f]Grainne[/name_f] (GRON-ya) - I don’t mind [name_f]Aine[/name_f] though
[name_u]Lexi[/name_u]
[name_f]Mildred[/name_f]
[name_f]Miley[/name_f]/[name_f]Kylie[/name_f]/[name_u]Riley[/name_u]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] - I see it mentioned quite often on here and it baffles me
Perfectly reasonable names, spelt correctly, that I can’t stand or give me the wiggins:
Boys
[name_m]Dwight[/name_m], [name_m]Dwayne[/name_m], [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], [name_m]Harry[/name_m], [name_m]Timothy[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], [name_m]Louis[/name_m], [name_u]Barry[/name_u]. I wish I knew WHY [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] makes my skin crawl so much. [name_m]Timothy[/name_m]… shudder
Girls
[name_f]Rhonda[/name_f], [name_f]Leanne[/name_f], [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Rachel[/name_f]. I wish I didn’t hate [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] but there we are.
Boys: [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and Malakhi
Girls: [name_u]Sloane[/name_u], [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] and [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f]
I hate all these names with a passion, mostly influenced by people I’ve met with these names
