So today, as I was innocently strolling through my Facebook newsfeed, I saw something that stopped me for a seond. [name]One[/name] of my friends was commenting on someone else page, talking about their daughter, who’s name was [name]Saydee[/name]. For a second, I was like WTF? And then it hit me: the name was supposed to be [name]SADIE[/name]. I practically fell out the damn window. I’m not a big fan of the name anyway (cute name, bad association) but to butcher it with that spelling… So, it got me wondering: what are some the absoulute WORST yooneek names you all have seen?
[name]Allyx[/name]. For a girl. Oh, and Cattie - pronounced [name]Katie[/name].
I don’t think [name]Alyx[/name] is too terrible. I saw on Facebook the other day someone with a little boy named Jaihdenn.
[name]Saydee[/name] reminds me of [name]Kaydee[/name], another name I’ve seen on a child. I figured either her parents were naming her after the bird feed or it was a creative spelling of [name]Katie[/name].
Then there’s Maddisynne, [name]Destiney[/name], Typhane, Mayzee, Abbegale, and so forth.
I still can’t get past a friend of mine who named her daughter Indyanah [name]Grayce[/name]. If it was spelled correctly, it’d be a great name but hat spelling?? Srsly?!?!
I’ve met a Cyrinity and a Katelyne…drives me crazy because where did the other n go? It’s like [name]Kate[/name]-line!
I once knew a girl named Kayte, pronounced [name]Katie[/name].
I met a college student named Mickinzee. It’s surprising to see that these “uniquely” named kids are now entering college; wonder how they will fare in the competitive job market
Yesterday on another forum a poster said she’d been unemployed for months when a friend suggested her yooneek name might be the problem. So, on her resume she just put her first initial (ex. A. [name]Grace[/name] [name]Lawrence[/name]) and she immediately started getting requests for interviews. She said her mom was upset because it appeared that she was ashamed of her name but she (the poster) was just happy to finally have a job
Wahnneetta…yip thats meant to be [name]Juanita[/name]!
Some spelling craziness that I’ve come across is:
[name]Cadie[/name] ([name]Katie[/name])
Nickalos ([name]Nicholas[/name])
[name]Destinee[/name] ([name]Destiny[/name])
I’m not surprised to hear about someone having a difficult time finding a job with an unusual or oddly spelled name. Some employers will judge a person based on his or her actual merits, but others are biased against certain names. While it isn’t fair to the person bearing the name, there are certain associations that arise with those names. I think even just feeling uncomfortable how to say someone’s name can be enough to throw off some people. It might not be a conscious decision, but if they’re going to feel more awkward with one person’s name over another, it could definitely cost someone that competitive edge.
see that always is so sad to me since a baby has no.control at all over their name, none! And as they grow up it just follows them unless they change it, at least they can change it if its that bad but still…you are naming future adults people, not a webkinz character!!!
I know of little girls name Mykaelah, Nattalee, Tryniti, [name]Alexus[/name], Heylee, and Zhoey. I also know a Jaxxsen who is the cutest little guy who I hope.can.for by [name]Jack[/name] when he is able or something.
Btw the 2013 [name]Rhodes[/name] Scholars were announced yesterday, and one of them is a girl named [name]Dakota[/name]. It can be overcome.
A friend of my sister is expecting. If it was a girl she was going to name her [name]Posy[/name]. But it’s a boy and his name is going to be Jayms [name]Allyn[/name]. Yes, she said she’s doing it to be unique. But what’s wrong with [name]James[/name] normally? If she wanted something more unique there are plenty of other names out there without resorting to that spelling train wreck. Poor kid.
[name]Do[/name] I have to mention how badly I was wishing she’d have a girl?
On the show Winners and Losers the character [name]Bridget[/name] named her daughter Aalivyah. Pronounced [name]Olivia[/name]. On the name day she said “Aalivyah thats with 2 A’s”
A little girl named Madics. It took me a while to work out, but I think it’s a YOONIKE spelling of [name]Maddox[/name].
I don’t know her personally. Thank God she goes by Madi.
I know a girl named Leegha. It’s pronounced [name]Leah[/name], and no, it isn’t [name]Leigha[/name] with a typo. I went to camp with her, and one of the counselors was like, “Um, [name]Lee[/name]-guh?” The girl corrected her, and counselor said, “[name]How[/name] is it [name]Leah[/name]?” My heart goes out to that girl.
I have an unusual, nearly impossible to pronounce name that is a French word, and I’m worried what it will be like if I’m trying to get a job and the person thinks, like many I’ve come across, think it is a youneek spelling of [name]Renee[/name] or [name]Raine[/name], and will think I’m unintelligent. I had no choice with my name- I just grew up a [name]Reine[/name].
I also know girls who have boys names- which is something I’m on the fence about, depending on the name- but have them misspelled to look feminine. These include [name]Addysen[/name], Madysen, Peightyn, [name]Rian[/name], Huntyr, [name]Ryleigh[/name], [name]Kacey[/name], [name]Aubree[/name], [name]Kamryn[/name], among many. If you are going to name a girl a boys’ name, and it needs to be misspelled for it to be feminine, then don’t name the girl that!
I recently saw a [name]Haydn[/name] on Facebook. I thought it was a typo at first. It wasn’t.
My friend and I met a Mikensey, a Aiydenn and a Jennavyve ([name]Genevieve[/name]). No they were not siblings. However, their moms were all teen moms. (She works as a social worker and invited me to work with her and meet a few families.) They were all put up for adoption and were given new names/spellings. Mikensey, since she was already 2 at the time didn’t want to confuse her by changing her name so they just corrected the spelling. Her name is now [name]Mackenzie[/name] [name]Piper[/name]. Aiydenn was adopted when he was 6 months old and had a name change since that name didn’t fit his new parents’ naming style. They renamed him [name]Nicholas[/name] “[name]Nick[/name]” as his siblings were [name]Elouise[/name] “[name]Ella[/name]” and [name]Teresa[/name] “[name]Tess[/name]”. Jennavyve had a completely different story. She got a new first name, which I believe is [name]Mia[/name]. Her middle name then became her old first name, but spelled the correct way: [name]Genevieve[/name]. Therefore her new name would be [name]Mia[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name].
