Sorry
I don’t mean to sound so sorry for myself.
My apologies, this is hard to put onto others. It’s also hard to understand. As briefly as possible-
A trauma lead to my needing to rename myself. Six years and I can’t find a name that seems right.
I have gotten by with using my surname less the ‘er’ ending for a first name, and a bland name for officialdom. In general people don’t use any name at all, [name_m]Even[/name_m] if I can understand why, it is not a great feeling.
We delayed having a family but need to start soon if we are to be blessed with children. So I have reached out to ask for help for myself first. Maybe I could ask for girls ageless names (I am soon 29) for a dreamed of daughter and find something along the way.
All I can say is I love literature, word images too, not necessarily just ‘names’ from Lit.,theatre , opera, all mythology and classics.
My original name was ‘different’ and l know no-one else of that name. Maybe that’s holding me in some way to find a similar ‘unique to me’ name. Maybe.
If you kindly have time and inclination please send some names my way. Guilty Pleasures even –you can guess I have looked at many names.
Thank-you
I am not sure where to start with this. Have you considered any names at all? Any style? Any names on your list for your future children that you probably wouldn’t ever use, that you can use for yourself?
Here’s some to start off with, although I could be completely off with what you want and I apologise in advance if so! Some of the below names are both literary AND mythological but I only put them in one column (asterisked those which cross, I probably missed a few that cross too.)

Basically what eoxima said— it would help to have some foundation to build off of, that way we have a better idea of what you’re looking for, and so that we the posters don’t accidentally suggest names you’re trying to avoid. [name_m]Just[/name_m] some basic information about where you’re from and what names you could envision yourself wearing would help us understand what names would work best for you
Nevertheless, here are some names I thought fit your criteria:
[name_u]Flannery[/name_u]
[name_f]Elinor[/name_f]
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Catalina[/name_f]

My link to nameberry is so weak I can’t [name_f]Edit[/name_f] my original post- trying to make more sense.
From searching for a name, I now rarely onethat I don’t know unless it’s not Anglo/Celtic but of lesser known origin. I have seen names from Dutch members I was not familiar with that could be usable. I am assuming this is how it is for most of you as name collectors/enthusiasts.
It’s now a love for me too, but frustratingly to date I have not found a name I feel suits me when I hear it. I remind myself most people’s names are given and I dearly wish I had someone close who I could ask to suggest a name and grow to it. I am the eldest at 29. I wish my 3 younger sisters would get together or alone, and suggest a replacement. I’d be honoured. They are very caring but it’s a lot to ask so I turn to others. Berries who I know help many people usually with babies. You need more information to be able to do this for me. I am utterly amazed at how you do tap into poster’s styles. I don’t think I am seeking any style. I was trying to imagine the way you find name for literature characters’name.
Greek myth –I’ve done Nereids to Harpies and only wish Mnemosyne which is significant by Memory –did not sound like mosquito. Psamathe has beach meaning but again the sound is not so good. This does not mean I need meanings –it was a path I tried.
I’ve done simple/ profound – [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Niamh[/name_f].
My hope was that you have names you might not consider for your children, more Guilty Pleasures or something different that you have even just heard of that might trigger some ideas. I said in my ‘unsaved’ unposted draft last night that I would name myself an ‘out there’ name [except [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] Zot or [name_u]Blue[/name_u] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]] that I would never put on my children. They will be likely [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] [name_f]Gaia[/name_f], [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_f]Helene[/name_f], [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
My replies to @eoxima and @vestigesofsummer have not appeared.
I wanted to thank you for answering @eoxima and @vestigesofsummer.
I (unknowingly) spoke with a delightful young counselor today who made me feel so good.
She really took any angst away for me in saying something like <your name was broken, you have to find a new one - whenever. Stop putting guilt or pressure on yourself> e.g.
I can’t have a baby when I haven’t a name I call my own.
I am guilty of trying to create a Utopian world for children.
Thanks so much
