[name_m]Hi[/name_m] lovely berries! I’m a nanny and have been with my current family for over 5 years. One of my favorite times of year is when they bring home their yearbooks (from their University-affiliated, private, prepster-meets-academia school) and I get to peruse all of the fantastic names. This school is Pre-K3 through 2nd grade. There are some fantastically named munchkins running around Chicago right now.
What are your favorites? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you wait and wait for your child(ren)'s yearbook to come out? Does your child have any exceptionally-named children in his/her class this year?
Whoa, is it real? So many fantastic names! I absolutely love:
[name_f]Twila[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Cedric[/name_m]
[name_m]Grover[/name_m] (a real-life one? Finally)
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]
Kudos to these wonderful parents!
Oh my gosh, I need to get my year books from my parents and see what fun names I can find! I wish I had them at my house right now. I really enjoy these names…
@handsallover: yes, they are real! I know several of them personally, and others I have overheard parents call their names or heard them over the loud speaker for carline pick-up. My favorite to hear is “[name_f]Aviva[/name_f] and [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]! [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] and [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]!” Makes me smile every time
I’m still in school (I graduated from eighth grade not too long ago), so these names come from my own yearbook. Below I’ve listed all the names that stood out to me (some in a good way and some in a bad way). I only looked through the names of kids in eighth grade because my school is so huge. There were over 600 kids in eighth grade alone! So of those 600, these are the ones that stood out:
Neve and Nona - twin girls
Zahra
MacIsaac - I always thought his name was handsome
Journie
Qian
Tasi
Elysia
Krupps
Israel
Marta
Noor
Keiarr
Rosa
Gaelan
Truell
Ayrton
Francine - always thought her name was cute
Maliya
Hermon (girl)
Lorin (boy) - I really like his name, but unfortunately he does get teased for it every now and then. One time a substitute teacher was taking role and blurted out “Isn’t that a girls’ name?” when he got to Lorin, making the class laugh. The sub was just trying to be funny, but I thought it was a little mean.
Kekoa - prn kay-KO-uh, pretty sure it’s Hawaiin
Ieisha - prn eye-EE-sha
Arden
Vance
Nicola
Montserrat
McCallister - I think she just went by Callie
Alexus - looks like “a Lexus” to me, like the car
Molly
Sonia
Monet
Beau
Dencil
Gisele
Abrielle
Gage
Nika - prn neeka
Aislinn
Rayyan - he told people to just call him Ryan; I’m not sure if his name is supposed to be a kre8tiv spelling of Ryan, or if it’s actually supposed to be pronounced differently and he just told people to call him Ryan to make it easier
Angelina - she went by Angie
Brodi (girl) - I always thought her name was cute, though kind of unsubstantial
Raven
Angeli
Kelly
Cruz
Destinie
Giovanni
Sefanaia (boy)
Maridith - she went by Mari
Matheu - surprisingly substantial for a kre8tiv spelling of Matthew
Zavian
Cachet - prn ka-shay; one of our substitute teachers couldn’t stop enthusing over her name, but personally I think it’s a little too unsubstantial, though it is pretty
Jadori
Johnwary
Clarissa - reminds me of Clarisse McClellan from Fahrenheit 451, a very good association
Aileen - kind of an old lady name, but I still like it
Daja
Liliauna
Nimisha
Janavi
Raina
Rhianon
Jill
Vashawn
Erynne - prn Erin; one girl thought it supposed to be pronounced like Irene and kept calling her Irene until someone finally corrected her
Adiam (girl) - prn AW-dee-um
Mathis - prn like Matisse (muh-teese); at first it reminded me of Maltese puppies, but now I quite like it. It’s French. So is the boy. He can even speak French!
Dayanara
Luzelisa - she went by Lisa
Darla - her name fit her personality so well
Lloyd
Tanae
Bernard
Jenni
Sharda - prn shar-day
Talia
Arya (boy)
Juliabrowneyes: I love [name_f]Darla[/name_f], [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] and [name_f]Monet[/name_f] from your list. I am surprised that anyone would consider [name_m]Hermon[/name_m] an acceptable name for a girl, but I would have said the same about “[name_u]James[/name_u]” before [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] [name_m]Reynolds[/name_m] gave the name to his daughter.
Sparkleninja18: I wonder if Rev is a nickname for [name_f]Reverie[/name_f]? [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] are fantastic together. I have always had a soft spot for [name_f]Margo[/name_f]
[name_m]Rayan[/name_m] / Rayyan is actually an Arabic name. I’ve heard it pronounced like “[name_u]Ryan[/name_u].” I have an Arab friend who just had a baby boy and named him [name_m]Rayan[/name_m]. It’s one of those Arabic names that works well in English (like [name_f]Leila[/name_f], [name_f]Maya[/name_f], [name_f]Alaia[/name_f], etc).
They are being used! So great to see! My favorites:
[name_f]Twila[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_u]Lennox[/name_u]
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariela[/name_f]
[name_f]Millie[/name_f]
Me, being a teenberry, didn’t get a yearbook, but there are some names I like of kids in my grade. Although most of my friends do not have such exciting names, so many [name_f]Emily[/name_f]'s and [name_f]Meghan[/name_f]/[name_f]Megan[/name_f]'s.
Riplee - Never met another Riplee, I’ve always liked her name!
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] - One of my good friends with a nice name too!
[name_f]Leanne[/name_f] - I think its pretty!
[name_m]Cole[/name_m] - And his middle name is [name_m]Thomson[/name_m], most different boys name I saw.
I don’t know if Rev is short for anything. I’ve seen her at the studio before (we had classes around the same time but never together since she’s like 4) and her mom only calls her Rev. Her shoes also say only Rev, I know because I was hit by one on accident . It would be so cool if her full name was [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] though since it seems every person where I live is named either [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or [name_f]Ava[/name_f].
My school was mainly filled with [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]'s, [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]'s, [name_f]Kayla[/name_f]'s, [name_m]Joshua[/name_m]'s, [name_m]Matthew[/name_m]'s and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]'s, but there were a few unusual names in my very large graduating class. lol
Bartholemew
Tuff (boy)
[name_m]Gannon[/name_m]
[name_u]Trace[/name_u]
Kashmier (Yes, I’m serious. She is a year younger than me, but I had to mention her. She has a younger sister named [name_f]Jessica[/name_f])
[name_f]Berniece[/name_f]
[name_u]Cherokee[/name_u]
I’m back, this time with a yearbook I borrowed from my 8 year old sister’s room. Hidden among the pages of Avas and Jacksons, I found some gems! Pretty fantastic names for my area, if you ask me. Here are the best:
I must say I was totally SHOCKED to see [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Maelys[/name_f] in here! A little boy named [name_u]Sage[/name_u] was also a pleasant surprise. There was actually one first grade class which accounted for at least 3 names on each list.
We met the little boy [name_m]Killian[/name_m] at the pool yesterday along with his little sister. My sister didn’t know what her name was apart from what everyone called her: “[name_m]Killian[/name_m]'s annoying little sister”. So I decided to look them up and found out that [name_m]Killian[/name_m]'s sister’s name was just as cool as his! [name_f]Maelys[/name_f]! I about died.
So exciting! We dont have year books over here. They’re trying to make them a thing but it really isnt working.
I’m so excited to see [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] on a girl!! I love [name_f]Lenna[/name_f] too! Its so weird seeing my own name [name_f]Carys[/name_f] on this list. I think [name_f]Samara[/name_f] is pretty as well.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Calder[/name_u]! And [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]! [name_m]Grover[/name_m] is a bit weird to me as it sounds like my surname but with a V instead of a TH, so like someone is saying it incorrectly. I like [name_m]Clark[/name_m]…[name_u]Eden[/name_u] and [name_u]Sage[/name_u] are more girls names to me though.
Some super interesting names there. No wonder we dont have yearbooks! I mean, for starters our schools are tiny compared to yours…in one year group there would be about 130 odd people…and after all the [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]'s, [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]'s, [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]'s (Toms), [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]'s and [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]'s, there really aren’t that many interesting ones left!
The craziest one in my year was Chakayler…no one knew how to pronounce it (its Sha-kay-luh, by the way!) There was also a [name_f]Yasmin[/name_f], a [name_f]Roisin[/name_f], a [name_f]Brenna[/name_f]…they were probably as far as it gets!
