I’m pretty new to this whole Nameberry thing and have never heard these names used before checking this site. Apparently they are much more popular than I thought!
My main concern is: are they too popular? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know of many babies/kids with these names?
I’m aware that [name_f]Freya[/name_f] doesn’t strike people as a typical “pretty” girl name at first, which is fine with me, I love it. I think [name_f]Thea[/name_f] is beautiful, but according to this site, it’s incredibly popular right now. I like [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], but I don’t think I’d actually use it. I need something short, sweet, and offbeat.
My name pretty uncommon and [name_m]Ive[/name_m] always loved being the only [name_f]Brynne[/name_f] at school/work etc. I would like to find something that would stand out among all the Olivias and Charlottes these days!
If you want something that stands out, [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is the best pick. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is used a little more, but she hasn’t soared on the charts like [name_f]Thea[/name_f] has. [name_f]Thea[/name_f] rose over 300 places on the charts from 2014 to 2015, whereas [name_f]Freya[/name_f] only climbed half that. [name_f]Thea[/name_f] also has a very on-trend sound which means she’s more likely to rise further, faster, and you’ll be hearing a lot of the same sounds [name_f]Thea[/name_f] has in other popular names. ([name_f]Leah[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], all of the -ia names like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], names like [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f], [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], so many names have an EE sound with and -a ending, it’s hard to even count, and [name_f]Thea[/name_f] blends in with those.)
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] has a more distinctive sound so she will stand out more.
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] is also one of my own favourites ^^
I really love [name_f]Thea[/name_f] or [name_f]Freya[/name_f]! And honestly, [name_f]Thea[/name_f] is too terribly popular, the chances of your daughter meeting another [name_f]Thea[/name_f] is incredibly slim.
Here’s a little list of some similar names, but I think you’ve hit the mark with either [name_f]Thea[/name_f] or [name_f]Freya[/name_f]
Not sure where you’re located, but in the US neither [name_f]Thea[/name_f] nor [name_f]Freya[/name_f] are very common at all (#464 and #417 respectively). Nameberry tends to provide a slightly skewed perception of the popularity of uncommon names as people who want something besides [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], etc. tend to flock to places like this.
As dearest mentioned, though [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is technically more common, [name_f]Thea[/name_f] has seen more of a sudden rise within the last year. If I had to guess I’d say this is probably due to the character on TV show [name_m]Arrow[/name_m]. However, with either one of these names your child would be fairly unlikely to have to share a name.
I don’t think either are too common, and they’re both very pretty. I prefer [name_f]Thea[/name_f], although [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is pretty too. I don’t think she’ll meet many other people with the same name as her.
Both beautiful. I personally prefer [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and was not aware it was rising so rapidly, I thought it was more popular on nameberry than [name_m]IRL[/name_m]… But I do think she will go higher than [name_f]Freya[/name_f] in the US, for the reason you mentioned of [name_f]Freya[/name_f] not having the typical sort of beauty. If popularity is a concern and you love [name_f]Freya[/name_f], I’d say it’s the better choice for you.
I prefer [name_f]Freya[/name_f], mainly due to the fact that I love the goddess, which also makes it a much more interesting name for me. However, I love in the UK we’re [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is very very popular, and that would put me off.
I know of a little one year old that was named [name_f]Theia[/name_f]. Different spelling but same pronunciation. I much prefer [name_f]Freya[/name_f], personally. I do think they’re both pretty but I just can’t picture a baby owning the name [name_f]Thea[/name_f]. It is regal and poised, and gorgeous, but not cute or malleable as a personality emerges. [name_m]Just[/name_m] my opinion. I don’t think there is a wrong choice to be made here. Go with your gut!
I love [name_f]Freya[/name_f] but am not a fan of [name_f]Thea[/name_f]. I think the part I dislike is the -th sound. Although they may seem popular on Nameberry, I have never known anyone with either name.
I love [name_f]Thea[/name_f] best!
It may be popular on NB (#29) but in the US it’s still 464th. Now if it was a top 50 name I’d say it was too popular…but 464 is so far away…I can’t imagine the name exploding and leaping 400+ spots?
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] is also pretty, but it seems like a more mature name. Like [name_f]Thea[/name_f] could grow with the girl, but the girl would have to grow into [name_f]Freya[/name_f]?
I prefer [name_f]Freya[/name_f] over [name_f]Thea[/name_f] even though both are beautiful names, I have [name_f]Freya[/name_f] in my own list. However I am from the UK and [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is very popular here so that does put me off from using it.
