Theme/Pattern Challenge

I’ve noticed a very subtle theme/pattern with my kids’ names and I’d love to try to find a name for this girl that fits, if possible!

Short version:
Looking for a girl name

  • with 3 syllables,
  • has an R ending the first syllable,
  • the name can be found on the map, however remote!
(Can’t be an M or C name, but I can let the R part go, if needed!)

[name_m]Long[/name_m] version:
All of our kids have hidden place names. One is [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m], for example, and there is a [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m], [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] (the Iditarod goes through it!). I love that they each has a place they can visit with their names! I’d love to find that for this little girl. They aren’t obvious, so nothing like [name_m]Denver[/name_m] or [name_f]London[/name_f].

They all have 3-syllable names and the girls both have an R as the third letter (or end of the first syllable). One is [name_f]Marielle[/name_f] (but spelled differently). (Two of them have double first names and that’s how they come to three syllables, even though they often go by a shorter first day-to-day, so open to that too).

As you are all brilliant namers, I thought I’d see if you can help

[name_m]Courtenay[/name_m], [name_f]Canada[/name_f]
Orillia, [name_f]Canada[/name_f]
Kara-something (Kara sea)

What a fun challenge and a cool, subtle pattern for your kids’ names!

How about…
[name_f]Larissa[/name_f] (capital of the [name_f]Thessaly[/name_f] region in Greece)
[name_f]Veronique[/name_f] (a river in Canada)
[name_f]Ariel[/name_f] (a lake in Pennsylvania and a town in Washington)
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (there are lots of places with this name)
[name_f]Karina[/name_f] (a town in [name_f]Sierra[/name_f] Leone)
[name_f]Lorena[/name_f] (a few towns in the US, plus one in Brazil)
[name_f]Serena[/name_f] (a town in Illinois and in Burkina Faso)
[name_f]Teresa[/name_f] / [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] (two towns called [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] in the US, and then municipalities in Spain, the Philippines, and Poland spelled [name_f]Teresa[/name_f]. Also a lot more places if you count places called [name_f]Santa[/name_f] Teresa)
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] (too obvious?)
Girona (city in Spain)
Barletta (city in Italy)
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] (two small towns in the US and one in Australia)

3 syllables, but no R ending first syllable…
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] (city in [name_f]Montana[/name_f], also a national forest)
[name_f]Sierra[/name_f] (a national forest, also mountain ranges [name_f]Sierra[/name_f] [name_f]Nevada[/name_f] and [name_f]Sierra[/name_f] Madre)
Novara (province and city in Italy)
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f] (so many places)
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] (Sabrina Coast/Ridge/Island of [name_f]Antarctica[/name_f], also a [name_f]Lake[/name_f] [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] in California)
[name_f]Thalia[/name_f] (cities in the US and Australia)

Hmmmm. Tricky.

Let’s try:

[name_f]Jordanna[/name_f] (feminized of [name_m]Jordan[/name_m] river, of course)
[name_f]Berenice[/name_f] (this was an ancient seaport city)
Larimore (Lar-eh-more) [name_m]North[/name_m] [name_f]Dakota[/name_f]
[name_f]Jerica[/name_f] (Spain)
Sora-Lark (Sora is a town in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] and [name_f]Lark[/name_f] in Utah)
Arkana (Ar-kaa-na, the Tex-Arakana line dividing [name_m]Texas[/name_m] and Arkansas)

Found more than I thought!

Oh my goodness, as expected you all have so many fabulous suggestions!!

While some I really like (obviously ) are too close to our girls’ names, like Kar- names, [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Ariel[/name_f], [name_f]Marion[/name_f], etc., quite a few really fit our style! Some we probably aren’t brave enough to use, but I’m loving them nonetheless!

[name_f]Teresa[/name_f] (my husband mentioned this and it’s growing on me, especially with Tess!)
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] (and love Hattie!)
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] (Nell! Is on our top list)
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f] (also at the top of our list!)
[name_f]Berenice[/name_f]
[name_f]Verona[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] (though too close to my name, I’m sure)
[name_f]Samara[/name_f] (Sammie would be so sweet!)
[name_m]Laramie[/name_m] (so fun!! Really tempting!!)
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] (love this!)
Ginerva & [name_f]Geneva[/name_f]

[name_m]Waverly[/name_m]

Thank you all!
