Theobelle?

I came across an interesting name from 1928 high school yearbook - [name_u]Theo[/name_u] [name_f]Belle[/name_f], sometimes spelled Theobelle, for a girl. I’d never heard of this name before - must have been a rare, odd name for the time (she would have been born in 1910) - and I think it’s weirdly cute. What do you guys think? Too weird, or do you like it?

Anyone? I’d really like to hear some other opinions!

I’m not too keen on it, to be honest. Sorry.

I think it is cute

It’s really intriguing, [name_f]IMO[/name_f]! I think it’s cute too.

Awe I really like Theobelle!

I think Theobelle sounds off.

I don’t really like it.

I would like it if it was first name [name_u]Theo[/name_u] middle name [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. [name_u]Theo[/name_u] could stand for [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] and Theobelle could be a nickname?

I’ve seen [name_u]Theo[/name_u] on women from around that time. It came about as a nickname for [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] or [name_f]Theodosia[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] would be more appropriate for today.

It Is weird, but quirky enough to be cute. Its maybe too out there to use today, but its an interesting find for us name collectors!

I don’t like it, I think it’s way too made up

I’m not a fan!

I’m borderline on this one. Its cute, but it also isnt

Hmm… it’s very cute. I think I’d like it if it were Théobelle and pronounced teh-oh-bel, like [name_m]French[/name_m].

I think pushing the names together takes some of the charm out of [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. I have an ancestor named [name_f]Linnie[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] from about the same time. I like the suggestion for [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f].

I much prefer [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f], as a first name or as first and middle names. Or [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] to get to [name_u]Theo[/name_u] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] as a nn. It’s too cutesy otherwise.

I kind of like it! I read that [name_u]Theo[/name_u] was used as a girls name occasionally in the past - baby center shows that it was #1000 in 1930. #730 in 1880. Between those times it wobbled between #500 and #800. I always thought that was kind of cool. When said outloud though, Theobelle/[name_u]Theo[/name_u] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] sounds a whole lot like [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f], which is cute, but makes me think “why not just name her [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]?” Though Theobelle does look very cool.

I think it’s cute and intriguing as well. Not something I’d use, and I like [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] much more, but it definitely intrigues me. Alternate feminization to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]…I’m surprised more people aren’t using this!

Wow…the more and more I say Theobelle out loud I just LOVE it. I’m REALLY thinking about adding this baby to my list. Theodora Belle “Theobelle” is great as well.

EDIT:

I’ve looked it up, and I’ve found a few obituaries, white pages, and three Theobelles on Facebook. They’re almost all elderly - with records of Theobelles in the 30s and deaths at 80 years. I did find two young women, probably in their twenties, named Theobelle though. I am so interested in this name!
