[name]Theodora[/name] is prettier
I prefer [name]Theodora[/name], and [name]Rose[/name] [name]Theodora[/name] is darling!
[name]Wilhelmina[/name]
It flows better with [name]Rose[/name] plus has lots of nn options- [name]Willy[/name], [name]Willa[/name], [name]Billie[/name], [name]Elma[/name], [name]Elle[/name], [name]Mina[/name]
[name]Theodora[/name] is nice but if hubby is [name]Theodore[/name], what do you call him and what would you call her?
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is much better in my opinion.
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] all the way! [name]Theodora[/name] isn’t at all bad bad, but I love old-school Germanic names and prefer [name]Wilhelmina[/name]'s nicknames to [name]Theodora[/name]'s.
I love both names!! It’s difficult to choose. However, I think honoring your father-in-law is nice since he’s deceased. Plus I like the nicknames for [name]Wilhelmina[/name] better than [name]Theodora[/name].
I think [name]Rose[/name] [name]Theodora[/name] flows better.
But it’s your choice, really. [name]Love[/name] [name]Rose[/name] as a first name!
Congrats and good luck!
[name]Wilhelmina[/name]! I never got the idea of honoring myself or my husband, it’s weird to me. To me honoring means paying tribute to someone I love, so I wouldn’t exactly honor myself… Also since his father is deceased, I think it makes even more sense.
I love the name [name]Wilhelmina[/name]! It has much better nickname options as well, with [name]Mina[/name] being my favorite. I think honoring the father-in-law is very nice.
I really love both but [name]Wilhelmina[/name] is more distinctive imo. I think [name]Willa[/name] is very girly-girl [name]Minnie[/name] is super cute [name]Mina[/name] is sophisticated & [name]Billie[/name] is hipster-cool.
[name]Theadora[/name] is gorgeous but [name]Thea[/name] is confusing (thee-uh or tee-uh?) [name]Dora[/name] is the explorer…[name]Theda[/name] is vampy/flapper awesome…but [name]Wilhelmina[/name] is just more versatile & rare!
I like [name]Theodora[/name], it’s pretty and uncommon but I think will pick up some recognition in a good way when “[name]Oz[/name] the Great and Powerful” comes out next year
I’m torn! Would she go by a nn? I love [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Mina[/name] for [name]Wilhelmina[/name], and I love [name]Teddy[/name] for [name]Theodora[/name], but [name]Wilhelmina[/name] slightly got my vote. I think [name]Willa[/name]'s adorable.
nat108 - My husband’s name is [name]Matthew[/name]. I went with [name]Theodora[/name]/[name]Dorothea[/name] because it has the same meaning as [name]Matthew[/name]. I had ruled out [name]Dorothea[/name] because it just didn’t have that pizzazz I was looking for, if that makes sense.
My FIL’s name is [name]Billy[/name] so [name]Wilhelmina[/name] is a related name.
Her first name would be [name]Rose[/name]. I’m not huge into NN but I know that she might be so I really liked that [name]Theodora[/name] and [name]Wilhelmina[/name] had all the options that she would need and I didn’t have to compromise her first name.
I definitely agree that [name]Wilhelmina[/name] has a lot more choices and that is a definite plus.
I’m not really naming her [name]Rose[/name] because of me, I just happen to have [name]Rose[/name] as a middle name. It was a name that has meant alot to me. My grandmother died the day my mother found out she was pregnant with me so she named me [name]Rose[/name] in honor of her and now I have a piece of her with me, if that makes sense, and I really wanted to pass it on. That and [name]Rose[/name] is one of those names you spend your entire pregnancy trying to find. The one that hits you in just the right spot and makes you think, WOW Now that is my child’s name.
There was a totally kick-ass empress of the Byzantine Empire named [name]Theodora[/name]. It would be a cool name choice to reference a strong, mover-shaker woman from history without being too obvious about it.
While I think it’s good to honor your FIL, I voted for [name]Theodora[/name] because I like the name better. Other close alternatives might be [name]Theodosia[/name] or [name]Isadora[/name].
Personally I’d let your husband choose! Would he rather her middle name be after him, or after his husband? Which means more to him? [name]Both[/name] are lovely with [name]Rose[/name] so you can’t go wrong. Good luck!
I think [name]Rose[/name] [name]Wilhelmina[/name] flows better, but [name]Rose[/name] [name]Theodora[/name] looks better, and isn’t too bad in regards to flow.
I think [name]Wilhelmina[/name] would also be honoring your husband, and I like [name]Rose[/name] [name]Wilhelmina[/name] better than [name]Rose[/name] [name]Theodora[/name] ([name]Rose[/name] [name]Dorothea[/name], however, would be my choice if that was an option [And still honors your husband, I think])
I really like [name]Wilhelmina[/name]. [name]Rose[/name] [name]Wilhelmina[/name] is very pretty:)
