Theodora has always been a name I’ve loved and considered but somehow I’ve overlooked Dorothea until recently.
Which do you prefer? I’d also be grateful if you could comment why. My eldest is Cecily, if that helps at all too. Thank you! X
Prefer [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] . [name_m]Just[/name_m] like sound more and nickname [name_f]Dottie[/name_f]

I much prefer Theodora to Dorothea. No real reason except I am not a fan of nicknames and I loathe Dottie. I am not a fan of Teddy either. NN could be Thea for either name.

[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] for me! I like the nn [name_f]Thea[/name_f] for both; also [name_f]Dot[/name_f] and [name_f]Dora[/name_f], I do like [name_f]Teddie[/name_f] for [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] but I just find [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] feels softer and more feminine to me… I’ve always found [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] rather clunky and one of those feminization’s that was an obvious feminization. [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] I find still stuck in the past; [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is just right, though, imo!
Good luck!

I voted [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], but it was tough! if [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] were an option that would have won for me. maybe it comes down to nicknames and which potential nn’s you like more, if you plan to use them (also though because [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] are adorable, and so is [name_f]Dot[/name_f] and Dottie!)

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is SO common for boys right now (at least in my region), that [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] seems much more feminine and underused yet still recognizable and a little spunky. I LOVE [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Theda[/name_f], and [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] as nicknames.

Between [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], my favorite is [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]. But [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] would be my choice, if it was an option.

It’s close for me, as both names are lovely!
I feel like [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is classic and matches best with [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] - both are feminizations, both in that sweet spot between popular and familiar, both have that soft whispery sound at the beginning. I’d favor nicknames [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] (absolutely adorable on a girl), [name_m]Theo[/name_m], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_m]Rory[/name_m], or [name_f]Dora[/name_f].
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] on the other hand, is a bit more surprising - I don’t think I’ve seen as much love for [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]. [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] also strikes me as slightly more lacey and sweet, while [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] feels more serious. I’d favor [name_f]Dory[/name_f], [name_f]Dottie[/name_f], [name_m]Rory[/name_m], or [name_f]Thea[/name_f] for short.
