My latest crushes: [name]Theodora[/name] (nn [name]Thea[/name]) and [name]Winifred[/name] (nn [name]Winnie[/name])
I like that [name]Theodora[/name] would have an alliterative name (last name begins with a T).
But I love [name]Winifred[/name]'s meaning.
As far as nicknames go, I think I like [name]Thea[/name] better than [name]Winnie[/name] at this point (though [name]Winnie[/name]'s growing on me), and while I love the idea of [name]Freda[/name] or [name]Freddie[/name], I’m not sure I could actually use it on a sweet little girl. I’m pretty sure Hubs will feel the same way.
[name]Winifred[/name]'s MN would be [name]Willa[/name] (it’s a family name)
[name]Theodora[/name]'s MN would be trickier (Allis0n and [name]Willa[/name] are the two family names we’d like to use, but neither go well…)
Big brother is [name]Leo[/name]. Is [name]Theodora[/name] too close even though we’d call her [name]Thea[/name]? If so, is [name]Thea[/name]dora too made up?
I much prefer [name]Theodora[/name], and I believe [name]Theadora[/name] is a legit alternate spelling. [name]Thea[/name] is just so beautiful and i think [name]Theadora[/name] [name]Allison[/name] sounds fine.
For other [name]Win[/name]- names with the nn [name]Winnie[/name] just in case you want them to avoid [name]Freddie[/name] etc:
I love [name]Willa[/name], but I think it’s going to be too popular by the time I actually have a chance to use it. I’m not even pregnant yet! Thus, I’m tucking it in the middle. [name]Wilhelmina[/name] is an option, but I don’t know, it’s almost too clunky for me. Hrmmm…
[name]Winifred[/name] is awesome! I love nn Fritzy or [name]Fritzie[/name]…it’s playful & unique. I think [name]Winifred[/name] [name]Allison[/name] is nice.
I like [name]Theodora[/name], but not [name]Theadora[/name]…I think [name]Theodora[/name] can nn [name]Thea[/name] if you don’t like [name]Theo[/name] with [name]Leo[/name]. I love [name]Theda[/name] for a nn.
[name]Theodosia[/name] is great, but frillier than your other picks.
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] is nice, but [name]Philomena[/name] is great. I think [name]Mena[/name], [name]Pip[/name], [name]Pippa[/name], [name]Minnie[/name], ect are all nice. Especially [name]Minnie[/name] with [name]Leo[/name].
[name]Willamina[/name] is another spelling for [name]Wilhelmina[/name]- rare, but long-standing- which I like a little more than [name]Wilhelmina[/name]
You don’t think the final ‘a’ of [name]Theodora[/name] and the first ‘a’ of [name]Allison[/name] smoosh together too much? That’s what I’m worried about. Thanks for the suggestions! I love [name]Bronwen[/name] and [name]Rowena[/name]. My name is also Welsh, so double love for that aspect!
I actually don’t think it does enough to worry about. It’s because the A sounds are slightly different. TheodorAH [name]ALlison[/name]. there’s an [name]AH[/name] and [name]AL[/name] sound so it doesn’t smoosh too much for me.
You could also try [name]Willow[/name] to honor the [name]Willa[/name] in your family. [name]Theodora[/name] [name]Willow[/name] is gorgeous.
[name]Winnie[/name] is so cool! But I also have a soft spot for [name]Theodora[/name]. I’m not keen on the [name]Theadora[/name] spelling, but pretty sure it’s legit.
I think I do prefer the [name]Willamina[/name] spelling too, if it is indeed legit and as you say, long-standing. Hmmm…I’m going to have to look into this. I think I don’t like the Helmet imagery that [name]Wilhelmina[/name] gives! I want to love [name]Dorothea[/name] SO MUCH, and maybe it’ll grow on me, but for now, I think I’m still taken by [name]Winifred[/name]!
I love Henrietta! It’s a shame I already used it on a cat! Oh and speaking of cats, have you ever seen that old Disney movie “The Three Lives of Thomasina?” It’s a super cute story about a little Scottish girl and her cat. It was one of my favorites growing up! I don’t usually like feminine versions of masculine names for baby girls (Willa being pretty much the only exception) but I have a little red hen in need of name…thanks for reminding me!
I agree that name ending in “a” will smoosh with [name]Allison[/name]. “[name]Non[/name]-a ending” names I associate with (the wonderful!) [name]Winifred[/name] and [name]Theodora[/name]:
