My husband is a major history buff and wants to give our baby a historical name. We have gathered up our favorite boy names and were wondering if you lovely, wonderful, talented Berries could help us narrow down our options with your input. We’d really appreciate it.
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Ephraim[/name]
[name]George[/name]
[name]Calvin[/name]
[name]Harvey[/name]
[name]Martin[/name]
[name]Raymond[/name]
[name]Walter[/name]
[name]Phineas[/name]
[name]Hiram[/name]-this isn’t one of my choices, but DH was insistent that it make the list.
[name]Leland[/name]
[name]Leopold[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] - I just think this is a great name.
[name]Harvey[/name] - Adorable on a little boy, spunky when he’s all grown up.
[name]Rupert[/name] - One of my favourite names for a boy.
I think [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Lastname or [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Hiram[/name] Lastname would be great.
I love a bunch of these too—we’re looking at a similar pool.
My favorites on your list are:
[name]Theodore[/name] (on our list too!)
[name]Henry[/name]—but getting very popular
[name]Walter[/name], if you like the nicknames (I don’t so it got knocked off our list)
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name] (but I prefer it with two Ts)
I like a bunch of the others, too, just not as much. A friend has a brand new [name]Leland[/name], which is the first time I’d heard the name on a real person young or old. I’m a [name]West[/name] Coaster so I associate it with [name]Leland[/name] [name]Stanford[/name], but that’s not a bad thing. And personally I can’t get past the [name]Rupert[/name] Murdoch association with that one, thought that will likely be long gone before these little ones reach adulthood. It’s hard to know how much weight to give those kinds of associations.
[name]History[/name] is a great way to find baby names!
[name]Theodore[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]! And the nickname [name]Teddy[/name] is adorable! [name]Henry[/name] - [name]Henry[/name] is another one I’m fond of - great choice!
[name]Ephraim[/name] - is okay, just not as regal sounding as your others
[name]George[/name] - on the fence with this one. [name]Calvin[/name] - very handsome, and [name]Cal[/name] is so nice of a nickname!
[name]Harvey[/name] - okay
[name]Martin[/name] - too stuffy
[name]Raymond[/name] - “Everybody Loves [name]Raymond[/name]” comes to mind [name]Walter[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name]!
[name]Phineas[/name] - nice, but may be more popular now that [name]Julia[/name] [name]Robert[/name]'s boy is a [name]Phineas[/name].
[name]Hiram[/name]- can’t say I like this one like your others. I’m getting a farm-boy vibe from him, if that makes any sense?
[name]Leland[/name] - I’ve only known this on a girl, so no thanks
[name]Leopold[/name] - too over the top for a boy today
[name]Rupert[/name] - [name]Rupert[/name] Grint, anyone? He was my immediate connection. [name]Don[/name]'t like this one too much. [name]Simon[/name] - very distinguished! You can’t go wrong with a [name]Simon[/name].
[name]Elliot[/name] - love this on a boy, but now that more and more girls are using it, I kind of want to stay away from this one alltogether - though [name]Leo[/name] is a great nickname.
[name]Thomas[/name] - can’t deny this one’s appeal, but I don’t see myself ever using it.
We have decided to use my husband’s name [name]Daniel[/name] as the middle name. We were kind of hoping that this would help narrow things down more. Wdyt?
[name]Theodore[/name] - I do like it. But I like its nicknames better than the real name which means I probably wouldn’t put it on my own list. Plus is it me or is this on everybody’s boy list lately & if so does that mean it going to be the new hot/hip/rediscovered boy name?!
[name]Henry[/name] - Like it a lot & [name]Henry[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] works. But again the rising popularity, if you care.
[name]Ephraim[/name] - Gives a whole different, Biblical vibe to me which is too much with [name]Daniel[/name].
[name]George[/name] - I am one of [name]George[/name]'s few? fans. I just love it - but, oddly, it seems cuter on a baby & a little boy than on an older one or on a grown man! Of course [name]George[/name] [name]Clooney[/name] carries it pretty darn well.
[name]Calvin[/name] - Reminds me of [name]Calvin[/name] & [name]Hobbs[/name] right off the bat but I actually really like it. [name]Calvin[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] sounds great & [name]Cal[/name] is a cool nn.
[name]Martin[/name] - Are you in the UK? Somehow I think of this as a great name for a little English boy as it sounds good with a UK accent! [name]Martin[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] is okay but I don’t like any nn’s of [name]Martin[/name].
[name]Raymond[/name] - No, sorry. Really don’t like.
[name]Walter[/name] - I’m on the fence about it! Want to like but… just don’t think I’m there yet.
[name]Phineas[/name] - Really like it! [name]Phineas[/name] looks more Latin/[name]Roman[/name] to me than Biblical so I think this one is okay with [name]Daniel[/name].
[name]Hiram[/name]-
[name]Leland[/name] - embarrassing but the only “real person” I know of having this is Dog the Bounty [name]Hunter[/name]'s son. Hmm. I can see the appeal of it. But I don’t think [name]Leland[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] sounds good at all, they share sounds and run together.
[name]Leopold[/name] - [name]Leo[/name] seems over-popular to me so I don’t get excited about any of it’s longer forms, unfortunately.
[name]Rupert[/name] - have been liking this lately! It does have quite a batch of associations. But I think it’s crisp and classic and [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] is great.
[name]Simon[/name] - like it, but like [name]Simeon[/name] better. Not for you though, with [name]Daniel[/name]. (two Bible names again)
[name]Elliot[/name] - bad associations and just sounds feminine to me.
[name]Thomas[/name] - love it. Compared to [name]Henry[/name] & [name]James[/name], [name]Thomas[/name] is under-appreciated! Uh oh [name]Thomas[/name] the Train group there. But seriously. I’ve met two baby Thomases in the past decade at the most and I’d love to see more. The only thing - the middle name [name]Daniel[/name] makes it a little bland to me; seems like [name]Thomas[/name] needs something edgier. (?)
Our last name starts with a P and we are wondering whether [name]Phineas[/name] would still sound alright with it.
It wouldn’t be something like: [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Phelps[/name] or [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Pfeiffer[/name]. It would be more along the lines of [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Porter[/name].
Also, we have been saying our potential names outloud alot and [name]Rupert[/name] just does not get along with our last name. But hey, at least we can narrow things down more.
