So I am expecting twins. I will be finding out their sexes in 5-6 weeks (they are fraternal). For some reason I am utterly stumped on girl names. Everything I’ve loved before no longer appeals to me. I don’t know if that’s pregnancy brain or what, but it’s very annoying.
I’m not going to write too much about my naming preferences since I’d love to see what you all throw out here organically. I will tell you my son’s name is [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] Fionnlagh, so I do like a touch of Gaelic to a name but that’s not a necessity. I want to see whatever people think would pair nicely with [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], honestly.
Someone suggested [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] for a girl last time i was around (and only dreaming about becoming pregnant at that point). That’s one of the few names on my list that I’m still fond of, though I’m not crazy about the nickname [name_f]Gwen[/name_f].
Thoughts? Suggestions? I feel as if I’m starting from scratch here. My husband does not like names that are too “sweet”, so that’s one other issue we’re having. (Otherwise I would be using [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]!)
What about…[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], & [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
If you like [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] but not [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], what about [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], [name_f]Wendy[/name_f], [name_f]Ginny[/name_f], or [name_f]Evie[/name_f]?
My favorite pairs are [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] and [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], and [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
Thank you so much for all the wonderful suggestions! I’m not sure why I didn’t think of more [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] nicknames - I’ll blame it on pregnancy brain, eh? I absolutely [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] [name_f]Ginny[/name_f], especially, though they are all nice.
I like that [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] was suggested - my husband’s been pushing hard for that one. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it stands alone, or does it need a more formal name behind it?
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f] is one that I’m absolutely smitten with, but my mister has turned it down more times than I can count! Bah!
Some that I loved (that surprised me!):
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] (what is it that’s so elegant about Vs?)
[name_f]Melisande[/name_f] (absolutely dreamy - my husband is pretty nuts about this one already, so it may go on the list. The possibly [name_f]Ana[/name_f] nickname doesn’t hurt, either.)
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] (this one just brings to mind a beautiful rosy-cheeked, wholesome-looking girl for me)
I love [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], too, but alas one of my husband’s coworkers just named their baby that…it would look a bit like name poaching.
Thanks all for the lovely suggestions.
One last thought - would it be strange to have two children with an “M” name and one without? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think the other child would feel weird or left out because of that? I’m not crazy about all names of one letter in a sibling set, but there are a few M names in here that I really like!
I love all of the names you are considering! I think [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] can definitely stand on its own.
As for having multiple children with the same initial and others without, I just wanted to chime in from personal experience that it doesn’t really matter. In my family of 3 girls, we are [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] [name_f]Eileen[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Colleen[/name_f], and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f]. No one ever made a big deal out of the fact that my middle sister and I have similar names and the youngest didn’t so I wouldn’t worry too much.
As a mother of 9-month-old twin girls (and a four year old boy), I so feel you! Naming them was harder than carrying them. The biggest fight I ever had with my husband was over the girls’ names; one of our babies was nameless until we left the hospital with her (to the frustration of several hospital staffers). They were six months old before I stopped waking up in the middle of the night thinking “We should have named her [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] instead!”
So I will not comment on any name suggestions. I will just say that in the end, no matter what you pick, your daughters will have beautiful names, because your babies will be so perfect and precious when they arrive and grow into amazing little people that they will beautify whatever name you pick. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if you call them [name_f]Hortense[/name_f] and [name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f]. (Although, please – don’t.)
And congratulations! [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I’ve only been doing this nine months, I can confirm what others told me: Having twins is the hardest and most awesome thing you will ever do.
If you like [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], but not [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], you may want to consider [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. Nicknames: [name_f]Gen[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Viv[/name_f].
Perhaps you could use one of these with [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as a middle name:
Similar to Guinevere is Jennifer or Gwendolyn, Genevieve or Gwyneth. Guinevere and Malcom don’t match too much but if you it’s the right name for her, that’s the important thing. You could also call her Vera for short, or Winnie, or Neve, or Ginny or Evie.
Similar type names:
Ariadne
Rhiannon
Melisande
Beatrix
Lorelei
Bronwyn
Imogen
