Thess

I met a little girl recently named Thess - pronounced [name]Tess[/name]. She was named after her aunt Thess, who in turn had been named in honor of a relative named [name]Theresa[/name]. At first I wasn’t sure, but then I decided I really liked the different spelling - much like [name]Thom[/name] versus [name]Tom[/name]. Thess almost makes more sense to me as a diminutive of [name]Theresa[/name]. Thoughts?

I prefer [name]Tess[/name] for its simplicity and literary connection. I wouldn’t necessarily pronounce Thess like [name]Tess[/name] so I think many people would pronounce the “h”.

I agree with [name]Mischa[/name]

Yeah I wouldn’t think to pronounce it as Thess, I think the reason people know to say [name]Thom[/name] as [name]Tom[/name] is because [name]Thom[/name] is familiar from [name]Thomas[/name], you know it’s a silent h if that makes sense, whereas [name]Theresa[/name] nn [name]Tess[/name] has a different sound. I think I prefer [name]Tess[/name] but I don’t dislike the Thess spelling, though I think it makes it more problematic.
