They are possibly taking a new direction- please help!

My son and d-i-l are expecting twin girls. They were seriously considering the name [name]Abigail[/name] for one twin. I have posted several threads and polls for this name and a sibling name to go with it. You all had great ideas. However, they are a little cautious about [name]Abigail[/name] because she has a niece they see frequently named [name]Gabrielle[/name] and she is nned [name]Gabby[/name]. They wanted to use nn [name]Abby[/name] for [name]Abigail[/name] but are afraid of causing confusion if people are talking to/about [name]Abby[/name] and
[name]Gabby[/name] and getting them confused. So now they are considering other directions to go in. They didn’t seem to be very interested in unisex names until now but have decided that [name]Riley[/name] is growing on them for one of the twins. I think [name]Riley[/name] is a cute name but I worry it may be a little too trendy. If they do decide to go that route they need a name for the other twin that won’t clash. We need a list of all of the names you can think of that might work well with [name]Riley[/name]. Any help appreciated.

[name]Hi[/name], Unie!

[name]Riley[/name] and:

[name]Arden[/name]
[name]Auden[/name]
[name]Bellamy[/name]
[name]Blake[/name]
[name]Carlin[/name]
[name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Darien[/name]
[name]Ellis[/name]
[name]Emery[/name]
[name]Ellery[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Hollis[/name]
[name]Kirby[/name]
[name]Linden[/name]
[name]Marlo[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Quincy[/name]
[name]Reese[/name] (never mind…R theme)
[name]Sawyer[/name]
[name]Tierney[/name]
[name]Willoughby[/name]

If they’re open to a name that’s not as trendy as [name]Riley[/name], they may also like [name]Romilly[/name], nickname [name]Romy[/name] or [name]Millie[/name].

Good luck!

Oh, I was really loving [name]Abigail[/name]! Did they like any of the other names - [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], etc.?

I know a set of twins, [name]Kirby[/name] and [name]Riley[/name], but they are boy-girl. [name]Riley[/name] is the boy, so tell your family to be aware that [name]Riley[/name] might be use on some boys…

[name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Reagan[/name]
[name]Skylar[/name]
[name]Tegan[/name]
[name]Wynne[/name]

Good luck!

Ok, so far they like out of those suggestions:
[name]Avery[/name]
[name]Bryn[/name]/[name]Brynn[/name]/[name]Brynne[/name]
[name]Bellamy[/name]
[name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Emery[/name]/[name]Emory[/name]
[name]Tegan[/name]/[name]Teagan[/name]
[name]Tessa[/name]
[name]Willoughby[/name]
[name]Wynne[/name]/[name]Wynn[/name]

Anyone have more ideas for them? For the most part, unisex names are more new and not my cup of tea…although maybe they will grow on me (I mainly want them and their daughters to be happy with what they pick). Since I am not so good at these suggestions, I am hoping some of you younger/more hip moms and dads can help.

Also, can anyone think of any names not really considered unisex that would work alright with [name]Riley[/name]?

[name]Hi[/name], again!

My favorite from that list is [name]Tegan[/name] ([name]Teagan[/name]) with [name]Riley[/name]. I, like you, am not personally in favor of unisex names, as I feel they make it harder - not impossible - for a girl to develop her feminine identity. A name says a lot about a person, certainly from the perspective of first impressions, and I think it is the role of parents to chose names for their children that will benefit them - and display them to their best advantage - in their future endeavors…

As far as names that aren’t unisex but still have a fresh, young, trendy feel, I think [name]Willa[/name] would be perfect! It has a unisex feel because it is derived from the classic boy’s name - [name]William[/name] - yet it is also decidedly feminine in sound. [name]Willa[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] is a really pretty combination. With a name like [name]Willa[/name], I might pair [name]Tess[/name], a name with trendy, modern sound but a nod to tradition - think “[name]Tess[/name] of the D’Urbervilles.” [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Tess[/name] are perfect twin names, in my opinion, because they have a similar style yet are very distinct at the same time…

With your list of family names, it would be quite simple to pair names - like [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Tess[/name] - to suit your son and daughter-in-law. Let me know if they like either [name]Willa[/name] or [name]Tess[/name] (unfortunately, not to “go” with [name]Riley[/name], but as an alternative), and I will be more than happy to suggest more names in the same vein!

They do like [name]Tess[/name] but not [name]Willa[/name] so much. [name]Lemon[/name] and others, can you give me a list of other names that might go well on a twin to [name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name]? Anyone else who wants to add unisex or other names they think would work as a twin name with a girl [name]Riley[/name] please don’t hesitate. Some I thought of that might be cute would be [name]Corrie[/name], [name]Perri[/name], [name]Shea[/name], [name]Emerson[/name], [name]Sydney[/name], or [name]Taylor[/name]. Does anyone think any of those would be cute as a twin to [name]Riley[/name]?

[name]Hi[/name], Unie.

I love [name]Tess[/name], but completely disagree about it being a “trendy” or “modern” name; [name]Tess[/name] is as vintage as it gets (see [name]Pam[/name] and [name]Linda[/name]'s list of vintage names), and is only ranked #870 in popularity.

Some names I picture with [name]Tess[/name]:

[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] (Oops…Same ending sound as [name]Tess[/name]…)
[name]Cora[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Eve[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Nell[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]

Good luck!

Shout at them, “[name]Don[/name]'t use [name]Riley[/name]” there are SO many unisex names that would fill the bill but this can’t be one of them.

What about [name]Lacey[/name]? I think that [name]Lacey[/name] [name]Hope[/name] which I believe means [name]Peace[/name] and [name]Hope[/name] would be lovely

and twin sister [name]Bellamy[/name] [name]Jordan[/name].

Sisters

[name]Lacey[/name] and [name]Bellamy[/name] nn [name]Lace[/name] and [name]Belle[/name].

I also think [name]Riley[/name] is worth reconsidering. I think of it as a “fad” name for girls, one of which I never cared for on a girl.

I love, love [name]Brynn[/name] and [name]Greer[/name]/[name]Grier[/name]!

I love [name]Jill[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Cora[/name]!

My picks from these are:

[name]Avery[/name] (I like it with [name]Jill[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Auden[/name])
[name]Brynn[/name] (I love it with Rosyposey’s suggestion of [name]Greer[/name]/[name]Grier[/name])
[name]Emery[/name] (Another I like with [name]Auden[/name])
[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] (I love it with [name]Jill[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Cora[/name])

You might also like [name]Anwen[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name].

I like [name]Brynn[/name] with either of these.

Not a fan of any of these, except [name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Willa[/name]/[name]Willow[/name].

[name]Riley[/name] is not my cup of tea.
[name]Brynn[/name] and [name]Hollis[/name] - two of my fave unisex names together. [name]Love[/name] this combo.
[name]Camden[/name] and [name]Rainie[/name] - ditto, and I love rain.
[name]Kendra[/name] and Paisha (I know two sisters with these names. [name]Love[/name] the names.) - these are not unisex names, but they are pretty and quite unusual.
[name]Carson[/name] and [name]Wylie[/name] - Western, and you would think that since I don’t like [name]Riley[/name], I wouldn’t like [name]Wylie[/name]. But for me, [name]Wylie[/name] is way more substantial than [name]Riley[/name]. It has a lot of history.
[name]Wallis[/name] and [name]Gwyneth[/name] - so English, they both have a masculine sound, I think.
[name]Ardith[/name] and [name]Selah[/name] - Hebrew names. Not unisex, but so pretty and unusual.
[name]Tamsin[/name] and [name]Freya[/name]
[name]Elspeth[/name] and [name]Freya[/name]!
[name]Anwen[/name] and [name]Carys[/name] - don’t sound very feminine, so Welsh. love!
[name]Maeve[/name] and [name]Brynn[/name] - love. one syllable yet opulent.
[name]Saga[/name] and [name]Thora[/name] - Scandinavian

[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Bryony[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Chloe[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Claire[/name]/[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Elspeth[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Florence[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Gemma[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Kate[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Lorna[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Norah[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Oona[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Pippa[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Rose[/name] nn [name]Rosie[/name]

[name]Love[/name] [name]Anwen[/name] and [name]Carys[/name] as well as [name]Brynn[/name] and [name]Maeve[/name]. Also love [name]Tess[/name] and [name]Kate[/name] as well as [name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Chloe[/name]!

Oh, too bad they didn’t like [name]Willa[/name], but I’m glad they liked [name]Tess[/name]! [name]Jill[/name] is right - [name]Tess[/name] is a vintage name, which I acknowledged - but it does have a more modern sound than other vintage names (e.g., [name]Mabel[/name]), which was what I was getting at…

[name]Tessa[/name] feels a bit trendy to me, so I prefer the more classic [name]Tess[/name], personally. [name]Tess[/name] is a diminutive of [name]Theresa[/name], in case you were curious…

I would pair it with [name]Hazel[/name], ideally, but here are some more!

[name]Annie[/name] & [name]Tess[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name] & [name]Tess[/name]*
[name]Cate[/name] & [name]Tess[/name]
[name]Edie[/name] & [name]Tess[/name]*
[name]Libby[/name] & [name]Tess[/name]
[name]Rosa[/name] & [name]Tess[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name] & [name]Tess[/name]*

These names with a comfortable, somewhat nickname-y feel, seem to complement [name]Tess[/name] in my opinion. But, something with a more modern sound could also work:

[name]Eden[/name] & [name]Tess[/name]
[name]Reagan[/name] & [name]Tess[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] this helps! Good luck!

[name]Tessa[/name]
[name]Carys[/name]
[name]Tegan[/name]
[name]Ainsley[/name]
[name]Emery[/name]
[name]Greer[/name]

All sound good together or with [name]Riley[/name] I think

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone. I’ll run them all by them and see what happens. One other name they mentioned considering was [name]Afton[/name]. This name has personal meaning for them and it is listed as a real name and a girl’s name as well in naming books. Always a plus, huh? However, I don’t think it has a very “girly” feel to it so I am trying to figure out what style of name would work best for the other twin. Can anyone help with possible ideas for that combo?
