I have been thinking about these names for awhile now, and they seem to be stuck in my mind.
[name_m]Eb[/name_m]ène (pronounced Eh-[name_m]Ben[/name_m], rhymes with [name_u]Pen[/name_u]). I like it because it’s a word name and because it sounds similar to [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] that my partner likes.
[name_f]Avril[/name_f], the french variant of [name_f]April[/name_f]. The V makes it more smooth in my opinion.
Haydée, like [name_m]Eb[/name_m]ène, it looks like [name_u]Aiden[/name_u]/[name_u]Hayden[/name_u], a name that my partner likes.
Maxelle, looks like [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] that my partner doesn’t like. Maxelle could become a compromise.
What do you think of these names and how do you pronounce them? Are they usable?
[name_f]Avril[/name_f] is still too [name_f]Avril[/name_f] Lavigne for me, reminiscent of super dark/thick black eyeliner, purple streaks in hair, and studded belts on ultra-lowrise jeans.
I think [name_f]April[/name_f] is beautiful the way it is, but I have a sister named [name_f]April[/name_f] so I am biased.
To be honest, I’m not sure where you live, but these are all borderline pretentious for an American girl. That’s obviously just my opinion. [name_f]Avril[/name_f] is the only wearable one of your list imo.
@bassilly: We currently live in France, but we will maybe move back to America in a few years. We are a franco-american couple. We need names that are pronounceable in French and in English. We are very simple persons
I love these, but unfortunately Americans have trouble pronouncing accents and foreign (esp. [name_m]French[/name_m]?) names. I love [name_m]Eb[/name_m]ène but I think it would become E-BEEN like [name_f]Jolene[/name_f]. (I’ve considered [name_m]Sol[/name_m]ène before and decided against it for this reason…)
I think [name_f]Avril[/name_f] and Maxelle are beautiful and useable in both languages! I think today’s generation is not familiar with [name_f]Avril[/name_f] Lavigne, more an association for moms, not for kids.
I love Ebene too. I had never heard of it before and would probably, as the previous poster mentioned, try to pronounce it eb-EEN if I read it first, but EH-ben is so pretty that I think it’s worth the potential mix ups.
I think [name_f]Avril[/name_f] is beautiful! Maxelle is also pretty… I know a girl named [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] (everyone calls her max) and the name is very liked!!
I like Maxelle best. There are loads of [name_m]French[/name_m] names that could work in English too.
English speakers would just not say it in the beautiful way [name_m]French[/name_m] people would, we tend to make things sound harder to the ear.
I agree with everyone that [name_f]Avril[/name_f] and Maxelle are beautiful and would work in [name_u]America[/name_u]. Try to avoid anything with accent marks, they confuse Americans and would make paperwork harder.
Thank you Autumnreverie!
I will take Haydée off of the list. I’m not ready for [name_m]Eb[/name_m]ène yet, but I figure I will eventually have to. It depends on how my partner will feel about it.
Thank you for the suggestions. I absolutely [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], but my partner does not, sadly. I like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]!
We just can’t agree on girl’s names… I wanted [name_f]Boheme[/name_f] or [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] but he hates them. He wants [name_f]Nell[/name_f] but, as cute as it is, it seems too short.
What do you think of Rosamée? ([name_f]Rosa[/name_f]-mae)
@[name_f]Katinka[/name_f]: Thank you! I’m not a fan of [name_f]Axelle[/name_f] for some reason. I really like the nn [name_u]Max[/name_u]!
@ Kowhai: As long as we both like the way the name is pronounced, it doesn’t really matter to us [name_m]French[/name_m] people don’t necessarily know how to pronounce English names, and when they use a [name_m]French[/name_m] R in names like [name_u]Skylar[/name_u], it also sounds very hard haha! Thank you very much. @Kpearl: Thank you! That’s my biggest problem… I absolutely love names with an accent mark at the end. Like Esmée, Rosamée, Haydée, Ysée. Esmée is probably the only one that is usable.
They seem far too [name_m]French[/name_m]. I love [name_m]French[/name_m] names, like [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], but most of these seem to be trying a little too hard. If I had to choose, I’d pick [name_f]Avril[/name_f], though [name_m]French[/name_m] and English pronunciation is different.
