Think we're down to two names

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all, me again… Sorry, I’ve probably annoyed you all enough with all my posts!

We had a private scan last week and found out we’re having a little girl ” We’re so excited!! We went through the names from my last post and we’re down to two names - kinda! Lol…

They are;
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] ([name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] = [name_f]Orla[/name_f])
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] ([name_f]Niamh[/name_f] = Neev/Nee-uhv)

As long as we get the flow right we’re pretty set on two middle names so opinion on that would be most appreciated please ” If we get overwhelming negative feedback on the two middles then the options will be [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Niamh[/name_f].

[name_u]Baby[/name_u] girl is due in Feb - both [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] are the birth flowers of that month so we thought it would be a cute connection to include them. I adore the names [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] - especially together and we both fell in love with the [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] suggestion on my previous thread. Unfortunately hubby has said no to [name_f]Odette[/name_f] with [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] being a top contender as they are two princesses in kid’s movies lol.

What do you guys think? ” Which do you prefer, what works/doesn’t work, etc? [name_f]TIA[/name_f]! Xx

My vote is [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Niamh[/name_f]. I think the flow is better and it sounds like you truly like them more.

I second [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Niamh[/name_f]. But both are very pretty, a hard decision.

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] is gorgeous!

Oooh, DH isn’t going to be happy - He favours [name_f]Violet[/name_f] ” [name_f]Kinda[/name_f] makes us wish we were having twins ”

I highly prefer [name_f]Violet[/name_f]!

I’m not a fan of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], and find it fairly hard to say. I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is lovely and love the combo of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f].

I vote for [name_f]Violet[/name_f]

I’m a bit biased, but I love the [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] combo. it’s absolutely beautiful, and I love the name [name_f]Niamh[/name_f]!
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] is also one of my favorites though, so I don’t think you can go wrong here. both stunning names!
btw congratulations on the little one!!

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is lovely  If you favour [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (which is imo the frillier/girlier option) but your husband favours [name_f]Violet[/name_f] names like [name_f]Viola[/name_f] or [name_f]Violetta[/name_f] could be a compromise?

But [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is gorgeous imo

Both are lovely but [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] won for me

I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. It just seems like such a unique and memorable combination. My own preference would be to avoid names used by princesses, but I realize not everyone feels that way.

This is what DH is worried about with [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and I get it completely but I don’t think the same association would put someone off using, say, [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] or [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. Maybe because [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] isn’t as popular so your mind automatically jumps to the Disney connection, in most cases, however?

That being said, I tried to think of the worst thing a child being callled [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] would have to be put up with… Maybe that she’d get called princess a lot but I think even if she hated that / was tomboy-ish [name_u]Rory[/name_u] would make a great NN to go by and banish that. DH said we’d / she’d probably get bombarded with Sleeping Beauty related birthday/Xmas presents but as she grew, into her own personality and with her own interests, I think that would stop too.

Thank you! I know, it’s a tough one… Hopefully we’ll get another girl in the future than we can use both lol.

This is close OP -Because I’m just a teeny bit preferring [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]- I thinks its a stunning combo and
I like [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] better than [name_f]Violet[/name_f] as a first name and I know a few who are not princesses.
Best wishes

We did toy around with [name_f]Viola[/name_f]/[name_f]Violette[/name_f]/[name_f]Violetta[/name_f] when [name_f]Odette[/name_f] was in the equation but DH much prefers [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. The only one I like as much as [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is [name_f]Viola[/name_f] but we’ve been told many times that [name_f]Viola[/name_f] [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] or [name_f]Odette[/name_f] runs into together too much as a combo because of the vowel ending/beginning.

Thank you! It’s nice to hear that there are little [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]'s out there who aren’t seen as cutesy and princess-y.

I do understand why people don’t like [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] though - It’s frilly and feminine especially at a time where so many girls are being given more masculine and/or unisex names… I’ve seen a lot of threads and articles even on why a girl should be given a ‘strong’ name. I think [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is a strong, classic name too - it’s just Disney is the first thing that pops into your head and takes that away slightly lol.

True, Viola Orlaith/Odette does run together…

Viola Daisy Orlaith / Odette sounds lovely imo.

Violet and Aurora are both really nice names. I personally do think that Aurora is very princessy by association but it’s still a really pretty name. So, whatever you choose, she’ll have a beautiful name

Edit:
I just meant Viola as a compromise suggestion, btw.
It feels a bit like Aurora but isn’t the name of a princess, which your DH seems to dislike…
But I must admit, I myself do feel like compromising on names is difficult. I mean, my spouse has accepted that Lavinia (favourite on OH’s list) won’t be happening because I really don’t like it. But I also have a hard time letting go of some of my favourites… Oops, I’m rambling, sorry

Yeah, compromising is difficult - full stop! Lol. In this case it’s harder because they’re names we both like but can’t decide on lol.

DH does love the name [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] too… At first all he could think of is Disney but has said it’s grown on him massively in a short while which I why it as been moved to a first name option instead of middle (that was his original bargaining lol) The princess connection is the only thing that is slightly putting him off still. I also love [name_f]Violet[/name_f] just as much - it was top choice for a girl from pretty much the get go. I’d just never thought of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] until joining this site.

It’s hard for us both because either way we’re loosing a combo we both love and potentially forever.

I prefer [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] (or, just to be totally contrary, I really love [name_f]Odette[/name_f] as a first name, perhaps [name_f]Odette[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Niamh[/name_f]…)

I have never liked [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. I could get over the frilliness, but to me it’s the pronunciation. All the vowels get contracted to schaws (this may depend on your accent and the accents around you), and it comes out sounding Uh-roe-ruh. I would also be worried that a tomboy girl would choose to go exclusively by [name_u]Rory[/name_u] which has a completely different vibe and loses all of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]'s written beauty.

I do think both your combos are very balanced and visually pleasing however!
