Thought i would run this through the most experienced name forum I know.
Our little boy is [name]Jonas[/name] (we live in Europe, not native English speakers).
For a future sibling, these are my favorites. I would love to hear your opinions, and suggestions. I prefer not to matchy matchy, not the same first letter. [name]Love[/name] classics, all names starting with the letter G are unfortunately out of the question for dh.
Boys:
[name]Samuel[/name] (unfortunately, [name]Sam[/name] is extremely popular now in my country top 20, but I woud prefer the full name)
[name]Felix[/name] (to much cat? Most likely my dh will veto this)
[name]Philip[/name] or [name]Filip[/name] (a lot of name for a small one perhaps?)
[name]Ezra[/name] (too feminine?)
Girls:
[name]Noemi[/name] (French for naomi. [name]Naomi[/name] doesn’t sound nice with our last name, and is the name of the baby-girl of one of my friends)
[name]Daphne[/name] (slightly to popular, not top 20 but within top 50)
[name]Lydia[/name] (in our country, I only know one 30 something with this name, the others are at least 60+, maybe to old?)
[name]Lucia[/name] (does have a very harsh sounding s-sound in our language)
Still like [name]Jemima[/name] and [name]Paloma[/name]…but i think these will be vetood by dh
Middle names will be (not up for discussion) [name]Andrea[/name] (my Mothers and my first Middle name) [name]Wilhelmina[/name] (my Mother in law’s first name and my grandmothers first name) [name]Emily[/name] (my sisters first name). For a boy this would be [name]Andreas[/name] [name]Wilhelm[/name] [name]Emile[/name] . By the way, our first son also has 3 middle names, more than one Middle name is tradition in our family.
[name]Samuel[/name], [name]Philip[/name], and [name]Ezra[/name] all sound fine with [name]Jonas[/name] to me.
[name]Felix[/name] has a completely different vibe. Not too much cat, but too polished to fit with the sturdier [name]Jonas[/name].
[name]Samuel[/name] is classic. “[name]JonAS[/name] and [name]SAmuel[/name]” is slightly difficult for me to pronounce easily.
[name]Philip[/name] (my preferred spelling) doesn’t seem too big at all to me…but are there European associations I’m overlooking? [name]Little[/name] boys are named [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Peter[/name] and [name]Marcus[/name] every day, and those are big historical shoes to fill.
[name]Ezra[/name] doesn’t seem feminine at all to me. To me [name]Jonas[/name] paired with [name]Samuel[/name] or [name]Philip[/name] makes a classic, little old man sibset. [name]Jonas[/name] and [name]Ezra[/name] together becomes a Biblical, little old man subset.
Of these, I’m torn between [name]Philip[/name] and [name]Ezra[/name].
I’m not sure how [name]Noemi[/name] is pronounced, but I’ve never been a fan of [name]Naomi[/name], but that’s just personal. [name]Jonas[/name] and [name]Noemi[/name] make a nice subset.
I’m a huge fan of [name]Daphne[/name]. You’ll just have to decide if popularity matters more to you than the name. I tend to think [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Andrea[/name] echo each other a bit, but not necessarily too much.
[name]Lydia[/name] is one of my favorite names of all time.
[name]Lucia[/name] is nice, but if you think it has a harsh sound in your language, why keep it on your list?
Of your boys names, I love [name]Samuel[/name] and [name]Philip[/name] (I really love the nickname [name]Pip[/name] from this for a little boy, but are there negative associations to that in your country?)
Of your girls names, I adore [name]Daphne[/name]. It is my little girl’s middle name and I had no idea it was getting popular anywhere! [name]Lydia[/name] and [name]Lucia[/name] I would probably choose against as three names ending in a may be too much in a row.
For a boy I love [name]Ezra[/name] with the middle names you have chosen! I know an [name]Ezra[/name] and he is a very sweet and kind little boy.
I like [name]Daphne[/name] with the middle names you have for a girl, it’s such a sweet name!
Thank you all so much for your views. If anyone has other suggestions, I would love to hear them.
[name]Noemi[/name] is pronounced as no-[name]Amy[/name]. But I love [name]Daphne[/name] (in Dutch it is pronounced slightly different, Daf-nuh, so it should not be a problem paired together with [name]Andrea[/name]). [name]Daphne[/name] has been quite popular in the netherlands for some time now.
