Thinking about Chloe and name popularity in general

I feel set on [name]Stella[/name], however DH keeps bringing up [name]Chloe[/name]. I love the name [name]Chloe[/name], but it is really popular. What bothers me most about a popular name is not meeting others with that name, but all of the comments of “oh that name is so popular/trendy…etc.” I loved [name]Sophia[/name], but am not going to use it because every time I said I liked it I received so many negative comments it started to drive me nuts. Anyways, I would prefer not to have something very popular, hence [name]Stella[/name] being at 85.

I don’t know, I feel like I have looked at every name and popularity list with such a critical eye that I find a fault in every name I like.

Ok, not much of a question…lol. Thoughts on the popularity lists?

I prefer [name]Stella[/name]. [name]Chloe[/name] is really popular, but besides that, I just think [name]Stella[/name] is a better name. [name]Chloe[/name] is wispy and light, but [name]Stella[/name] is feminine but strong. But even so, I am a proponent of the idea: who cares? So what if a name is really popular. If it is THE NAME then it is and you shouldn’t let its popularity stop you from choosing it. I’ve known plenty of people with “popular” names ([name]Sara[/name]/[name]Sarah[/name], [name]Caitlin[/name] and all of its spellings, [name]Amanda[/name], [name]Nicole[/name], [name]Jennifer[/name]) and none of them have been scarred for life by the fact that other people have the same name. My aunt is a [name]Jennifer[/name] and when she was in school she had many friends with the same name. She went by [name]Jenny[/name] B and now uses that for her jam and jellies business, [name]Jenny[/name] B Jams. So in that case having a name that was popular worked out well!

[name]Chloe[/name] is pretty popular, but what about using it as a mn? [name]Stella[/name] [name]Chloe[/name] is nice. You could also use something close to [name]Chloe[/name] like [name]Zoe[/name] or [name]Cleo[/name].

Well I’m definitely using [name]Stella[/name].

[name]Chloe[/name] is so popular and I’ve never met a [name]Chloe[/name] that wasn’t extremely annoying. Honestly if someone said, this is my new baby [name]Chloe[/name], I’d be like uhg oh no then pray she’ll be the one to turn the name around for me. I’d much prefer a [name]Stella[/name] or [name]Sofia[/name]! [name]Sophia[/name] is way too trendy for my likes but gosh darn isn’t it the most precious! [name]How[/name] bout [name]Clio[/name]? [name]Clea[/name]? [name]Zo[/name]ë? [name]Lola[/name]? [name]Phoebe[/name]? [name]Noe[/name]? [name]Khloe[/name] Kardashian has done nothing to help the image…

Honestly, imo, there is nothing wrong with using a popular name.

I think I get more heated than most on here, lol, because I have a popular name and love it and most popular names these days are popular because they’re lovely! [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Ava[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Abigail[/name], [name]Jacob[/name], [name]Ethan[/name], [name]Michael[/name], [name]Daniel[/name], [name]Joshua[/name], etc.–they’re all very popular but they’re all charming, wonderful names with lovely, long histories. Your child won’t die (or try to kill you) just because they go to school with another [name]Bella[/name] or [name]Sophie[/name]. It’s not the end of the world, lol. I’ve been in college classes where there are at least two others (sometimes even more) who share my first name, and sometimes even my initial, and more often than not we were sitting right next to each other so it was even more confusing. Was it a bit inconvenient? Sure. Would I want to change my name over it? No. I wasn’t even annoyed when a teacher would call on [name]Ashley[/name] and all three of us would answer. Sometimes, for shy kids, having a popular name is a huge bonus, too–it helps a child feel like they fit in with their peers more than they would if they had an obscure name like [name]Araminta[/name] or Brentwood.

If you’re set on [name]Stella[/name] that’s fine and it’s great you have a name you love–I just wouldn’t be so quick to set aside a popular name simply for popularity’s sake. (And I agree that [name]Stella[/name] [name]Chloe[/name] is a really cute combo!) Besides, there are a lot less people with top-10 names born last year than there were in the 1970s and 1980s. [name]True[/name], there are still a lot of Isabellas and Jacobs, but nowhere near the number of Jennifers and Michaels born in the 70s. I’ve also heard that a lot of schools try to split up kids so there aren’t as many children with the same names, so it’s not as confusing, too.

But anyway, [name]Stella[/name] is a great name and I’m glad you’ve found a name you love.

My problem with popularity is I hate it when I meet another [name]Tina[/name]… in my case though I just thinks its because of my personality. I’m for of a creative individual who likes being unique. Im not selfish about my name haha I just don’t like having friends or coworkers with the samename. My name isn’t common in French which is what I liked best about being bilingual but I knew another [name]Tina[/name] in elementary, two in my grade in high school and one was a close friend which wasn’t bad and now I work with another [name]Tina[/name]. I just find that people are always comparing you to someone of the same name. So that’s my second reason.

I guess this is where name associations really make or break a name. I have met only two Chloes and they were the cutest, sweetest, smartest little girls, so thats what I think of. Also [name]Chloe[/name] Sevigny, and she’s pretty cool.

And I actually meant [name]Sofia[/name], I prefer that spelling. Either way, i can’t bring myself to use it.

I think [name]Stella[/name] is lovely! I would have considered it, except it doesn’t work with our last name.

DH & I originally had [name]Sophie[/name] at the top of our list for girl 2 (due next month) but when we realised the popularity we scratched it. I just think it’s nice to avoid if possible.

I have a very unusual name, so maybe that makes me biaised, but I like having ‘my’ name and not needing to be distinguished by my surname or other nicknames. DH has such a common name that he ended up being known by a nickname 99.9% of the time, so that he eventually changed his name legally to include it. So for us, coming from opposite ends of the spectrum, we came to the same conclusion to avoid anything in the top 50. Although I must say, there was a stage where that left us with NO names that we both liked, so I was thinking I might go back to [name]Sophie[/name], because I’d rather have a name we liked, that was popular, than something that we were both lukewarm on.

And another option if you like [name]Chloe[/name] is [name]Cleo[/name]… (DH vetoed this one, but I love it)

[name]Stella[/name] [name]Chloe[/name] is cute but personally I prefer [name]Chloe[/name] [name]Estelle[/name] (French version for the Italian [name]Stella[/name])
and when I’m thinking 'bout [name]Chloe[/name], I also associated it with [name]Chloe[/name] Sevigny. So that’s great though it’s popular. You can still call her [name]Stella[/name].

I have liked [name]Chloe[/name] for about -calculating it in my head- (( 18yrs )). [name]Long[/name] beore it gained popularity. I dearly love [name]Chloe[/name] as a name. I may yet even choose it if my miracle happens. The meaning also draws me in, as it is linked with the fertility godess and new life- which matches my IVF quest.
My strategy is to add a middle name that can double up with [name]Chloe[/name] if/when there are two in her class.
[name]One[/name] current favourite is [name]Chloe[/name] [name]Annabelle[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - I figure she could be a [name]Chloe[/name] [name]Ann[/name] or [name]Chloe[/name] [name]Belle[/name] or a [name]Chloe[/name] [name]Rose[/name], or even [name]Clover[/name] or [name]Coco[/name] instead of [name]Chloe[/name] “last initial”.
On the flipside the popularity has made me keep returning to explore [name]Phoebe[/name]- sooo sooo close yet no where near as popular.
But I do love [name]Chloe[/name] so much it may just have to be the one.

[name]Stella[/name] is very pretty- it makes me think a night full of stars. I love the children’s book [name]Stella[/name] [name]Luna[/name]- if you name her [name]Stella[/name] that book is so precious it is worth finding.
