Thinking hard about CASPER

What do you think of the name [name]Casper[/name]? I would love to hear people’s general thoughts as well as the answers to a few specific questions:

Does [name]Casper[/name] strike you as the name of someone kind or unkind? handsome or unattractive? Refined or unsophisticated?

If the only information you had about a couple was that they had named there baby [name]Casper[/name], what would you imagine about that couple?

What socioeconomic background, geographic location and racial/genetic background would you imagine a [name]Casper[/name] coming from?

What names do you think are most similar to [name]Casper[/name] in image/feel and why?

If you were naming [name]Casper[/name]'s brother and sister what names would you choose?

[name]Do[/name] you think [name]Casper[/name] is getting too trendy?

[name]Do[/name] you think [name]Casper[/name]=friendly ghost and if so does it kill the name for you?

  1. [name]Casper[/name] would be a kind and attractive guy in my mind.
  2. I’d be thinking, ohh they’ll be interesting, outside the box, excited to meet them.
  3. [name]Casper[/name] I’d imagine to be European, i know only one [name]Casper[/name] and he come from Dutch origin an his parents are very artsy and he gew up very happy, they raised him well and now he’s just graduated from University with a 1st class honours degree in Economics.
  4. Possibly: [name]Cassius[/name], nn [name]Cash[/name]; [name]Lucas[/name], also a very friendly sounding name or [name]Lukas[/name] a variation that has a german/dutch feel.
  5. I’d name [name]Casper[/name]'s brother: [name]Miles[/name]. And I’d name [name]Casper[/name]'s sister: [name]Thea[/name] (the nn of either [name]Theodora[/name], [name]Anthea[/name])
  6. I don’t think it’s getting too trendy at all, what i do think would happen is when other parents in the playground hear [name]Casper[/name] they’ll think “ohh, i love that name”
  7. No i don’t immediately think ‘Friendly Ghost’ reference, he might get it mentioned to him every now again, but so would [name]Simon[/name] with “simple [name]Simon[/name]” and that would be a lot worse.
  • I think of [name_m]Casper[/name_m] as handsome, sophisticated, and perhaps European. I definitely think the name has kind connotations (he is a friendly ghost, after all!).

  • I would probably think the couple is upper class Northern/Western European (Dutch, Danish, Swedish, etc).

  • I think [name_m]Casper[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] are obvious name twins (in etymology, feel, and coolness factor). [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] has a similar sound to it as well. The -er ending affiliates it a bit with occupation names while avoiding the trendiness of those.

  • I would choose [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. They are all classy, familiar names that transition well between languages/cultures.

  • Since [name_m]Casper[/name_m] hasn’t even broken the top 1000, I definitely don’t think it’s too trendy.

  • I think the ghost is going to be the first association for many adults, but I don’t think that’s too bad. Many people will not have that association, and to me, even if they do, it’s a rather positive character (again, he’s friendly!).

My softball friends used to call me [name_m]Casper[/name_m] at the beginning of the season because my skin was so pale.

  1. The name [name_m]Casper[/name_m] makes me think of a kind, thoughtful, maybe even adventurous, handsome guy.

  2. If I met a couple who named their baby [name_m]Casper[/name_m], dammit, I’d shake their hand.

  3. I don’t know.

  4. Mylo, [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], [name_m]Linus[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_u]Asa[/name_u], [name_u]Noah[/name_u]… because they’re all names that I think would fit kind, adventurous, thoughtful boys.

  5. If [name_m]Casper[/name_m] had a brother, I think [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], or [name_m]Linus[/name_m] would sound darling. A sister? Maybe [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], [name_f]Leona[/name_f], or [name_f]Zoe[/name_f].

  6. I think it can catch on eventually, but right now its pretty uncommon, but not unheard of.

  7. The friendly ghost thing doesn’t bother me at all, and I think it can distance itself from it, in time. If he ever gets crap for it, he could always say “Whats wrong with being a friendly ghost?” because really, what’s so bad about that association? Besides, the background on the character is actually pretty interesting.

#1 It depends, these things vary from person to person and I am not a fan of assigning a child a personality before I get to meet them.
#2 I would think they are creative and imaginative people looking for a unique yet foreign name
#3 I’d probably think a [name_m]Casper[/name_m] was upper class
#4 [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f], [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m]… because I like [name_m]Casper[/name_m] and these are the names I also like. They are all unique yet classy
#5 I’d go in a different direction as I have different tastes in names that I’d want to express. Sibsets aren’t as important as each one having an individualized personality. Maybe [name_f]Sulola[/name_f]
#6 No I do not think [name_m]Casper[/name_m] is trendy, [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is very trendy… [name_m]Casper[/name_m] is classy
#7 I do think friendly ghost but I like the association. However unless another animated movie/tv series is released, I think the ghostly association will not be there

Wow… O_o I’m sorry. How racist of them! I find this about as acceptable as calling someone ‘Sooty’ because their skin is so dark "-_-

I actually know a baby [name_m]Casper[/name_m], so all my answers are based on him.

  1. Names are names. They don’t have personalities to me.

  2. They’re a little bit kooky but totally lovely

  3. Middle class.

  4. Baltazar, [name_m]Casimir[/name_m], [name_m]Melchior[/name_m]…

  5. Ooh um… [name_m]Rainier[/name_m] and Mathile.

  6. Not in the slightest.

  7. The [name_m]Casper[/name_m] I knew is ridiculously adorable so all I think of when I hear the name is him. His mum and dad call him Caspie.
