Thinking out of the box

If possible, how would you convert a name you were interested in, into something you like and/or close to your naming style.

For instance, I was watching TMNT, this morning and remembered how great I thought their names were as brothers.

However, I wondered if I didn’t want to make it too obvious or nerdy, how would I make it work based on their original. Although I do love (guilty pleasure) their name as is.

Well, here it goes…

[name]Michelangelo[/name] (Based on [name]Michelangelo[/name] di [name]Lodovico[/name] Buonarroti Simoni):
Boy = [name]Micah[/name] Girl = [name]Michelle[/name]

[name]Leonardo[/name] (Based on [name]Leonardo[/name] di ser [name]Piero[/name] da [name]Vinci[/name]):
Boy = [name]Leon[/name] Girl = [name]Leona[/name]

[name]Raphael[/name] (Based on [name]Raffaello[/name] [name]Sanzio[/name] da Urbino):
Boy = [name]Rafferty[/name] Girl = [name]Rachel[/name]

[name]Donatello[/name] (Based on [name]Donato[/name] di Niccolo di [name]Betto[/name] Bardi) :
Boy = [name]Donovan[/name] Girl = [name]Donnelly[/name]

Based on any name, how would you tweak it to your liking?
Would you make it more gender-worthy? Ex. Family name is [name]Aaron[/name], but you are having a girl and want to name her [name]Erin[/name]. Vice-versa.

Would you add or take away any letters? Ex. [name]Connor[/name] to [name]Conor[/name].

[name]Do[/name] you have a favorite character/artist/actor/actress/etc., you want the name to be close, but not too exact? Ex. [name]Marilyn[/name] [name]Monroe[/name] turns into [name]Mary[/name] [name]Lynn[/name] or [name]Monday[/name] [name]Rose[/name] ([name]Monroe[/name] as a possible nn).

Hopefully you get the idea and respond. My curiosity is working overtime and I am curious to how Berries can think out of the box when it comes to names. Doesn’t have to be something you will really use, just something you think might work to make a name vintage, classic, modern, spunky, etc. :slight_smile:

I love [name]Leonardo[/name]…my daughter is [name]Leonie[/name].

I love [name]Donovan[/name]. I actually find somewhat dated [name]Donna[/name] to be cute, though I’m sure Belladonna is more suited to current tastes/trends.

I love [name]Micah[/name]…boy or girl. [name]How[/name] about [name]Micah[/name] [name]Angelina[/name]?

Also my high school art teacher was named [name]April[/name] O’[name]Neil[/name]!

As lame as this is, I’ve always liked the idea of [name]Adriana[/name] and [name]Liam[/name] as twins in reference to [name]Adriana[/name] Lima. I’d never actually do it, but it’s there.

Other than her, I really can’t say I have any honoring ideas in mind much.
Although for a character, I’m likely going to have his middle name be [name]Henry[/name] and his father’s be [name]Enzo[/name] which is Italian of [name]Henry[/name].

@ east93 Ahhh, I see what you did there. Nice
Lol, of course it lame, that’s part of the tweaking fun.

I always think its interesting when it comes to how people find their children name…Like getting a name out of a name. Especially, if they tweaked it a bit/a lot. Sometimes it work, other times not so lucky.

More examples:

[name]Aaron[/name] => [name]Nora[/name]
[name]Aidan[/name] => [name]Nadia[/name]
[name]Alessandra[/name] => [name]Sandra[/name] or [name]Andrea[/name] or [name]Elsa[/name]

I know a real life example: mother is [name]Marianne[/name], her first daughter is named [name]Anne[/name]-[name]Marie[/name] (goes by [name]Anne[/name] or [name]Annie[/name]).

We have considered the following tweaks to family names in order to honor relatives…
[name]Richard[/name] - [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Matthew[/name]- [name]Nathaniel[/name] (same meaning)
[name]Diane[/name]- [name]Anne[/name]
[name]Thelma[/name]- [name]Helena[/name]
[name]Harold[/name]- [name]Henry[/name]
[name]Lucille[/name]- [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]- [name]Rosalie[/name]
