We are revisiting our list from our first two and trying to find some new ideas
Our older children are named [name_u]Reid[/name_u] and [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. The four letter, one syllable pattern was an accident but it kind of helps us to narrow the list so we may lean into it
I tend to like older names and my husband’s style is all over the place but is usually more modern than mine. I’m not against unisex names but our daughter does not have a unisex name and when people say “Nell and ___” I want their names to be nice together and sound like sisters. I think we would prefer a tailored, feminine name.
[name_f]Girl[/name_f] names on our list so far:
[name_u]Fern[/name_u] - pro: commonly suggested on here for our daughter, con: I am not sure it’s “us”
[name_u]Grey[/name_u] - pro: fits the four letter one syllable theme con: a bit more unisex and trendy than I might usually go
[name_f]Joy[/name_f] - pro: short and energetic which I like, con: doesn’t feel as “cool” as other names and my husband has an aunt-in-law with this name
[name_u]Lane[/name_u] - pro: fits the theme, this is one we’ve pitched to people and everyone really likes it, con: feels unisex and kind of trendy
[name_u]Lou[/name_u] or [name_u]Louise[/name_u] - pro: short and vintage but also modern sounding enough, con: we really like [name_u]Louie[/name_u] for a boy, [name_u]Lou[/name_u] is more brisk than our kids and [name_u]Louise[/name_u] is more formal so I’m not sure it’s perfect
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] - pro: could be an honor name, con: a bit frilly
[name_f]Mari[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (mawr-ee or mair-ee) - pro: traditional and unexpected, con: I think [name_f]Mari[/name_f] would be mispronounced and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] doesn’t quite sound as energetic and youthful as I would like
[name_f]Neve[/name_f] - pro: sounds like a very sweet name, not heard a lot, con: our older daughter’s initials are NV and so [name_f]Neve[/name_f] seems similar
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] - pro: classic, feminine, energetic, con: I know many little Noras, I’m also not sure we want to repeat initials
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] - pro: works really well with our older children’s names, a classic name that could work well on all ages, everyone we pitch it to really likes it, con: our last name starts with a silent T so I feel like it might be weird to have TT initials with one being silent, something is holding me back from really loving the name
[name_u]Wren[/name_u] - pro: sounds so nice with our kids names, solid sound, con: I don’t like the idea of a silent first initial and a silent last initial
[name_u]Wynn[/name_u] - pro: sounds warm and stylish, con: this is also on our boy list, does it sound a little overconfident like we’re naming her [name_u]Winner[/name_u]?
I would say my current favorites are [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_u]Fern[/name_u], and [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. His current favorites are [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_u]Lane[/name_u]. Overall nothing is really jumping out as the one. With both of our kids we went through lists and lists with nothing feeling right and then randomly found these names that we really love so maybe all we need is to keep looking.
If we have a girl the middle name would probably be [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f], or [name_u]James[/name_u] after family members. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband also likes the idea of [name_u]James[/name_u] as a first name for both a boy or a girl but I’m not sold.
Sorry this post is so long. Thank you in advance.
