[name]Just[/name] thinking ahead here ([name]WAY[/name] ahead – DS isn’t even a month old!), but I know I want at least one more and DH is pretty set on it too, so while DS is napping (thankfully) I’m trying to replenish my name list. Think you can help?
Boys:
[name]William[/name] (too popular?)
[name]Peter[/name] (more as a middle name)
[name]Charles[/name] (again, popular nn [name]Charlie[/name])
I really like [name]Peter[/name] as a middle name. I also love the nickname [name]Harry[/name] (maybe I’m too much of a Potterhead ), but I would want a longer first name, so he could possibly have more options later in life. The only ones I know of are [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Harrison[/name]. While I love [name]Henry[/name], it has become rather popular, and [name]Harrison[/name] is not really my style.
Are there any other longer names that would lend themselves to the nickname [name]Harry[/name]?
The only other name with nn [name]Harry[/name] that I can think of is [name]Harold[/name] (which you probably won’t like). I would just go with [name]Harry[/name] as a full name, I don’t see anything wrong with that.
As for more names for your list (love your names by the way):
Girls:
[name]Grace[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Constance[/name]
[name]Lillian[/name] nn [name]Lilly[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Anna[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Emmaline[/name]/[name]Emmeline[/name] nn [name]Emmy[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] nn [name]Bea[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] (possibly nn [name]Jenny[/name])
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Jacqueline[/name] nn [name]Jackie[/name]–one of my under-appreciated faves.
Boys:
[name]Benjamin[/name] nn [name]Ben[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]/[name]Sebastien[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Garrison[/name]
[name]Jack[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] nn [name]Sam[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name] nn [name]Nate[/name] or [name]Nathan[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] nn [name]Alex[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Forrest[/name]
[name]Leo[/name] or [name]Leonard[/name] nn [name]Leo[/name] or [name]Leonardo[/name] nn [name]Leo[/name]
I’d be happy to help you if you have any more requests/specific name needs!
Oooh, I like [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name], and [name]Jacqueline[/name], especially the nicknames, since we are a nickname-y family (except for me, ironically). As for boys, I like [name]Nathaniel[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name].
You’re right, I’m not a huge fan of [name]Harold[/name]. It sounds too much like someone my grandparents would know…
For some reason I think you may like [name]Alfred[/name] nn [name]Al[/name], [name]Fred[/name], [name]Eddie[/name], A.J. if you do something like [name]Alfred[/name] [name]James[/name], and at the same time I think you won’t. lol.
Perhaps [name]Frederic[/name] nn [name]Fred[/name], [name]Eric[/name], [name]Rick[/name], [name]Eddie[/name].
Since your kids are [name]Gwendolyn[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name], I’m assuming they probably go by [name]Gwen[/name] and [name]Theo[/name]/[name]Teddy[/name]?
Out of the names I suggested that you like, I think [name]Beatrice[/name] goes the best with your other kids’ names for girls, and either of the boys’ names sound good.
The reason I don’t like [name]Lillian[/name] or [name]Jacqueline[/name] with your combo is because the -ine or -an sounds at the end are too matchy (for me) with the -yn sound at the end of [name]Gwendolyn[/name].
…HOWEVER, if they were just going to go by their nicknames this wouldn’t be much of a problem.
Thanks east93 and genevieve! [name]Frederic[/name] is interesting…for some reason I sort of see [name]Finn[/name] as a nickname for [name]Frederic[/name]. Weird.
I do like [name]Beatrice[/name]. I’m not sure that the similar endings would bother me too much, especially since Gewndolyn goes by [name]Gwen[/name].
[name]Hadrian[/name], [name]Harbor[/name], [name]Henrik[/name], Harvest, [name]Horatio[/name] and [name]Huckleberry[/name] could all be nicknamed [name]Harry[/name], but I suspect [name]Henrik[/name] is the only one you’d consider?
[name]Peter[/name] and [name]Magnolia[/name] are my favourites from your list, but I prefer [name]Nola[/name] as a nickname for [name]Magnolia[/name].
I also like [name]Josephine[/name] (nn [name]Posy[/name]) and [name]Anastasia[/name] (nn [name]Annie[/name]). [name]Rosemary[/name] was never a favourite. I love [name]Rosamund[/name] and Costmary.
I don’t like [name]Charles[/name], but [name]Chaz[/name] is pretty cool, and [name]Chuck[/name] would be a fun surprise
[name]William[/name] is a nice classic, popular would not be the word I’d use for him, timeless seems more apt. [name]Love[/name] [name]Will[/name] (a secret virtue name!) and [name]Billy[/name] would again be a fun surprise. I also love [name]Willem[/name]. Maybe you like [name]Wilhelmina[/name]/[name]Willamina[/name] for a girl? [name]Mina[/name] would be very sweet!
[name]Love[/name] the suggestion of [name]Frederic[/name] nn [name]Fred[/name], [name]Fred[/name] is awesome (and the Norwegian word for ‘peace’, pronounced a little differently). Also would like to suggest [name]Franklin[/name] nn [name]Frank[/name]. (another secret virtue [name]IMO[/name])
[name]Love[/name] [name]Frankie[/name] on a girl! [name]Francesca[/name] is wonderful ^^ I really like how it adds another place of origin into the mix, for me that’s a smart way of not settling into a ‘theme’. With [name]Gwendolyn[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] I would usually expect something British to follow, [name]Francesca[/name] broadens the future possibilities while still being British enough
That is a good point about not settling on a theme, which I definitely don’t want to do. Maybe it is just me, but I would have said [name]Gwendolyn[/name] was Welsh. I guess it is still British Isles or United Kingdom, though…
[name]Love[/name] all of your girl choices, although I prefer [name]Rosalind[/name] to [name]Rosemary[/name]. All of your boy choices are great too, and I especially love [name]Charles[/name]!
My bad about [name]Gwendolyn[/name], I get so confused at the exact origins of Welsh, Cornish and Gaelic names, the point for me is that they’re beautiful. But they’re all more popular on the British Isles than anywhere else, so that’s what I cling to when I can’t be bothered to look it up to be sure…
Leonielee, I love [name]Charles[/name] too, but I’m worried about it becoming too popular… [name]Rosalind[/name] is pretty, but I’m partial to [name]Rosemary[/name]. [name]Rosalind[/name] does have the literary reference to [name]Romeo[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name].
