This baby's name will be Joe Shmoe at this point.

I can’t make up my mind, so I’m asking for new names and advice. We have a [name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] and an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. Our list was:

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]

Both of our kids have honor middle names and I think the reason this is so hard is because we thought we were done having kids. The honor name [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] comes from Aunt [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] who went by Cille. I don’t want to name my kid [name_m]Seal[/name_m], so I think I should just forgo the honor name ([name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is a family name too, it’s Grandma [name_f]Kate[/name_f]'s middle name). I loved [name_f]Violet[/name_f] till I read people hearing Violent and now that’s all I can hear too :frowning: Also name meanings are very important to us. By this point in my last two pregnancies I knew my child’s name and I loved it. I am conflicted and confused right now and nothing seems right. It also doesn’t help that my husband doesn’t have strong opinions either way! Please send help.

I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]! What makes you unsure of this name?
I also love [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], but if it doesn’t sit right with you, what about a twist on [name_f]Violet[/name_f] like [name_f]Viola[/name_f]?

Here’s some other suggestions:
[name_f]Luisa[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Luana[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
(twist on Cille)

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is lovely!

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] is also really growing on me and I think [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] would be sweet

I’ll throw in a couple of suggestions, in case any catch your eye

[name_m]Miles[/name_m], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and…

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (Similar meaning to [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] and a nod to [name_f]Caroline[/name_f])
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f]/[name_f]Camille[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]/[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] ([name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a variant of [name_f]Caroline[/name_f])
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (same meaning as [name_f]Lucille[/name_f])
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]/[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] ([name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nod to [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]/Cille)

A previous poster suggested [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Celia[/name_f], and I think those are great options to honor Cille. But since they rhyme with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], they may be best in the middle. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Celia[/name_f]? [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]? One meaning for these names is “blind,” but another origin is a latin word meaning “heaven.”

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] is also a lovely suggestion!

From your original list, I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. I hear you on [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but it’s so accepted as a name that I don’t think most people will think of “violent.”

But what about another flower name, like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] (as suggested) or [name_f]Iris[/name_f]? Or a color, like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]?

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]

I guess I am unsure of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] because originally we were thinking about [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] as a middle name and then after weeks of spending time with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], we started wondering about changing it to the first and just going with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. So basically I never considered [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] to begin with and I’m not sure if I love it as much as I love the name [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. I love it WITH [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and I’m not sure if that’s good enough? Maybe I just need more time? I really love [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and I had [name_f]Clara[/name_f] (love it with [name_f]Violet[/name_f]) along with [name_f]Alice[/name_f] on the list originally. My mom is OBSESSED with [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] ([name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]) and I do think its adorable with the names I have, I just don’t know if it will age well (another concern I have about [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]).

I think that both [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] age perfectly well. I can easily picture these names on adults in a variety of fields.

[name_m]Miles[/name_m], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is a fine name. The mish-mash compromise names are [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Celine[/name_f] or [name_u]Caryl[/name_u] [name_f]Vi[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] from your first list. I think all your names sound good next to your other children. I don’t have a problem with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] - I just think of the beautiful colour and sounds.

I also really like your further names: [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. I don’t mind [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] but do agree that [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a great combo and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] goes very well with the family. I don’t see any problem with it (and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]) ageing. However I think my favourite is [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] as the most interesting and feisty of the names. I just love it with your other kids’ names too - [name_m]Miles[/name_m], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] best from your list but they’re all great names. What about [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]?

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is lovely!

I love the suggestion of [name_f]Iris[/name_f].

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] (This is my favorite . I think [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] together are fantastic. And then in a way honors your mom!)

I think [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is a wonderful name and I think it works on an adult. Other options I also especially like with your sibset:

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]

You really have lots of great options.

I like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], I just wonder if it’s too “little sister” when compared to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], @araminty hit the nail on the head in another thread with the name [name_f]Julia[/name_f] compared to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and I think that’s how I feel.

Can anyone throw any new names at me, if you heard the names [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], what name would complete the sibset for you?

Based on what you’re saying…
What about [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]? [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is very pretty

[name_m]Miles[/name_m], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and…

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] (would you consider it as a first?)
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (great suggestion!)
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] / [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is the name we were going with originally and still love it the most! We got hung up on the middle name, using the honor name because the other kids had honor middles and then the honor middle name became [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] from [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], and we started to consider it as a first name. I would love to use [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] as the middle but it doesn’t seem to flow as well as it does as a first. Our last name is pronounced He-gur-tee. Honestly though, I think we might go with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], the only hangup is a middle name since our last name is 3 syllables I feel like it needs a 1 syllable middle and I’m not fond of anything, I like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] but I’ve been a name lover since I could write names in a list and I feel like there’s gotta be something better! I love [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], I was actually thinking about it but I think its too many syllables?

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] sounds perfect. It flows beautifully on its own, hits all your marks, and it would sound perfect with her siblings.

Try not to stress that you don’t have a name yet. The pressure might force you to make decisions that you don’t want to make, and have regrets that you don’t want to have. What’s the worst that will happen? [name_u]Baby[/name_u] will be born, you’ll get to meet her in person, and get a vibe of what you love for her once she’s here. Nothing will stop you from bonding with your little one if you don’t have her name picked out in advance.

Coming from a mom who only stated discussing names with hubby at least a day after our babies were born, it’s been fine, and I absolutely love my kids’ names - for their names, but even more because of our kids themselves.

I love [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], and from a suggestion above, [name_f]Luisa[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. Also, I know a [name_f]Violet[/name_f] who is in 5th grade, and a great kid!

[name_f]Susan[/name_f]

  1. I think [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] ages perfectly well, and I don’t think it sounds too “little sister” next to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. It seems like a sweet but grounded name on an adult.

  2. I don’t hear “violent” with [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but I think it’s because [name_f]Violet[/name_f] has more like two syllables when I say it, and “violent” has three. Either way I think it’s beautiful with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Miles[/name_m]. And I like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] too.

  3. I also like [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]! Really you have a great list here.

  4. I’d add [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], if you want suggestions. Bonus, [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] are related, so it could also be an honor name for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]/[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]

I didn’t have a name picked when I went to give birth. I had a “list” which was really a group of several names that I was considering, which actually became larger because I went into labor early and my mind got all boggled and I was worried about picking one. I tried out a few to myself before saying anything out loud, and eventually, before we left the hospital (but later than my family or the staff would have liked–they really like getting them named ASAP!) we chose a name. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t pressure yourself too much. You have time.
