This is so difficult. Help name my boy

So after thinking I had a name sorted it’s now off the table. I’d chosen [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] but now after talking with others alot of girls are named this and its put me off big time. So after hours of looking I’ve got a new list that I’d like to ask your opinions on. Thank you x

[name_m]Axel[/name_m]
[name_m]Myles[/name_m]
[name_m]Knox[/name_m]
[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_u]Finley[/name_u]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_u]Flynn[/name_u]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_m]Finnick[/name_m]
Mylo
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]

I’d love to hear your favourites and also why you don’t like the others please. Thank you so much.

I like [name_m]Axel[/name_m], [name_u]Finley[/name_u], [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], and Mylo best! [name_m]Myles[/name_m], [name_m]Knox[/name_m], [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] are fine. [name_m]Finnick[/name_m] sounds like ‘finicky’ and I just don’t like [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] at all.

I love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for a boy, wouldn’t put me off at all I have to say. If you look at popularity it’s still more popular for boys and not on a downward trend (#129 vs. #211 for girls)!

My fave from your list is [name_m]Miles[/name_m] (if spelled that way). very classy name that works for a boy and a grown-up. Bit of a popularity rise recently but wouldn’t bother me. Also love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Miles[/name_m] or [name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]

[name_m]Axel[/name_m] - Personally I don’t like the sound, plus it’s had a huge rise in popularity, but it’s overall an ok name
[name_m]Myles[/name_m] - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like crea8ive spelling, love [name_m]Miles[/name_m] though
[name_m]Knox[/name_m] - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t mind it, bit wanna-be special in my ears
[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] - Too popular
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] - OK
[name_u]Finley[/name_u] - I like it for a boy, but not a grown up
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m] - Nah, I associate [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] Keating, find it quite old school
[name_u]Flynn[/name_u] - Like it!
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] - Is ok, but sounds quite earnest and strict to me
[name_m]Finnick[/name_m] - Not my thing, sounds too made up
Mylo - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like the cre8ive spelling, do like [name_m]Milo[/name_m] though
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] - See [name_m]Reuben[/name_m]

[name_m]Axel[/name_m]- I like it. It’s cool and edgy. I can’t really picture an adult with this name though.

[name_m]Myles[/name_m]- handsome and kinda trendy right now.

[name_m]Knox[/name_m]- not my personal favorite but it’s edgy.

[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m]- [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] is handsome and kinda southern/country sounding to me.

[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]- cool and unique but not unheard of.

[name_u]Finley[/name_u]- not a fan of [name_u]Finley[/name_u] but I like [name_u]Finn[/name_u].

[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]- I prefer [name_u]Rowan[/name_u].

[name_u]Flynn[/name_u]- Handsome name that’s so fitting for all ages.

[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]- not a fan.

[name_m]Finnick[/name_m] -I wouldn’t go with this one because I think people would just think of the word “finicky”.

Mylo- I prefer the [name_m]Milo[/name_m] spelling.

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] - not a fan. I just think of [name_m]Ron[/name_m] Weasley of [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m].

I also like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for a boy, but understand why you’re put off!

[name_m]Axel[/name_m] - Edgy, kinda cool, but seems a little trendy, even though I know it’s a name with roots.
[name_m]Myles[/name_m] - I prefer [name_m]Miles[/name_m], but I looove this name. Super sweet but ages well.
[name_m]Knox[/name_m] - Not my style
[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] - Cute, cowboy-ish in a good way!
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] - Cute, I like [name_u]Toby[/name_u].
[name_u]Finley[/name_u] - Also a name being used a lot for girls, but I like it.
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m] - I like [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], I like it’s meaning “little seal”.
[name_u]Flynn[/name_u] - I like [name_u]Flynn[/name_u]! Very dashing.
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] - Reminds me of the sandwich, not my style.
[name_m]Finnick[/name_m] - I like the sound of this name a lot but my first association is The Hunger Games character.
Mylo - Also prefer [name_m]Milo[/name_m] spelling, but I like.
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] - Not my style

Favourites:

  1. [name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
  2. [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
  3. [name_m]Axel[/name_m]
  4. [name_u]Finley[/name_u]
  5. [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]

[name_m]Myles[/name_m]/[name_m]Miles[/name_m] - it’s okay but I know several [name_m]Miles[/name_m] in their 40’s and 50’s
[name_m]Knox[/name_m] - very [name_f]Jolie[/name_f]/[name_m]Pitt[/name_m] to me
[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] - ditto to [name_m]Miles[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] - not sure how well it would age
[name_m]Finnick[/name_m] and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] - prefer [name_u]Finn[/name_u]/[name_u]Finlay[/name_u]
Mylo - only thing that bothers me is the spelling but I really like [name_m]Milo[/name_m]

[name_m]Ronan[/name_m] seems like the perfect alternative!

I think [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] is so handsome, but it’s too similar to my son’s name for me to use.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is so handsome. I think that it’s totally masculine, but I understand your concern. I have heard it for girls occasionally.

Here are my thoughts on your new list:

[name_m]Axel[/name_m]-I’m not a fan of this. I automatically think of Axle [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

[name_m]Myles[/name_m]-This is fine, but not my favorite. I just hear it a lot. And the ‘y’ looks trendy. [name_m]Miles[/name_m] is better.

[name_m]Knox[/name_m]-I like this. It’s different, sort of posh but sort of sweet too.

[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m]-Very cool. Kind of popular it seems, but a great name. I love the cowboy feel.

[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]-I’m not sure why I don’t care for this one. [name_u]Toby[/name_u] just seems kind of dopey.

[name_u]Finley[/name_u]-Well, I love this for a boy personally, but it is getting super annoyingly popular on girls.

[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]-This seems like a good alternative to [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. Very handsome.

[name_u]Flynn[/name_u]-This is cool. Kind of sporty yet gentle.

[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]-This isn’t bad, but not my personal favorite. No real good reason.

[name_m]Finnick[/name_m]-Hm. I want to like this, because I love [name_u]Finn[/name_u] & Gaelic names in general. But it just reminds me of finicky.

Mylo-I like this more than [name_m]Myles[/name_m], but really really prefer [name_m]Milo[/name_m]. Mylo will get misspelled a bunch, I’d imagine. [name_m]Milo[/name_m] is charming & fun.

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]-Kind of cute but kind of stuffy.

My personal favorite is probably [name_u]Finley[/name_u], but I’d advise against using it if you’re worried about unisex names. [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] seems like the best bet. It’s different yet simple, & has a similar feeling to [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] w/out being used on girls.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

You have a great list! I agree with your thoughts on [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. Here are my thoughts:
[name_m]Axel[/name_m] - I just have never liked this name. Too modern and harsh sounding and not my style.
[name_m]Myles[/name_m] - I love [name_m]Miles[/name_m], one of my favorites. I don’t like the y just because it looks trendy, but it’s not terrible. It sounds effortlessly cool, simple, and handsome.
[name_m]Knox[/name_m] - exact same thoughts as [name_m]Axel[/name_m]. I tend to not like names with X in them, except [name_m]Alexander[/name_m].
[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] - kind of quirky, fun, but not too childish or modern. I like it.
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] - strong and timeless in my opinion. And [name_u]Toby[/name_u] is a cute nickname.
[name_u]Finley[/name_u] - I was in love with [name_u]Finley[/name_u] for a boy until I learned it was about equally used for girls and that turned me off to it. I still love [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and would use it as a nickname for [name_m]Philip[/name_m].
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m] - [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] is awesome. So strong and masculine and not so popular. As much as it is similar to [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], it seems very different stylistically to me.
[name_u]Flynn[/name_u] - [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] is great too. Very carefree and cool yet still strong as masculine. It’s close to [name_u]Finn[/name_u] but not as popular. You’d probably get Tangled references.
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] - [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] is one of my favorites. Not very popular, but not too out there either. Once again, very strong and masculine, which I love. Kind of an old-school yet fresh feeling to it.
[name_m]Finnick[/name_m] - I think this is a Hunger Games character, which turns me off. And then there’s the finicky thing. I like it in theory and it sounds cool, but I just think other variants of [name_u]Finn[/name_u] are less problematic ([name_m]Finnegan[/name_m], [name_m]Finnian[/name_m], Finnbjorn, [name_m]Fintan[/name_m], [name_m]Philip[/name_m], even [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]).
Mylo - Mylo is cool but too popular and I prefer [name_m]Myles[/name_m] to it. But again I would do [name_m]Milo[/name_m]. Less misspellings.
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] - In theory I like the style, but in actuality I’m not a huge fan of the sound. But, I still think it’s cool for someone else’s kid if that makes sense.

Great list!

My favourites are [name_m]Milo[/name_m] (spelt this way), [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and [name_m]Rupert[/name_m].

Instead of [name_u]Finley[/name_u] or [name_m]Finnick[/name_m] I would prefer [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] or [name_m]Phineas[/name_m]. Or simply [name_u]Finn[/name_u].

[name_m]Axel[/name_m], [name_m]Knox[/name_m] – trendy bad-boy names {least favorites}

[name_u]Finley[/name_u], [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], [name_m]Miles[/name_m], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] – very respectable names {[name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] are favorites}

[name_m]Finnick[/name_m] – name invented for “Hunger Games” character {least favorite}

[name_m]Reuben[/name_m], [name_m]Rupert[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] – clunky-cool old-man names {[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] are favorites}

I agree that [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is increasingly being seen as a girls name. In some countries like [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] (where the name originated) it’s racing up the top 100 names for girls and doesn’t feature in the top 100 boys lists. I’d definitely avoid it as if it suddenly explodes for girls then a boy might get teased.
I think this is a good thing though, [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is so boring now as it’s so similar to so many other popular names, especially [name_m]Roman[/name_m] but also [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], [name_u]Rohan[/name_u], [name_u]Roan[/name_u]. I’m a teacher and a few years ago I’d never really heard of these names, now they are everywhere

Pick one of your other lovely choices but not [name_m]RoNan[/name_m] with an N

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and Mylo
Infact love all your choices except [name_m]RoNan[/name_m]

I feel like [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] is the obvious alternative to [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] which I think is still good on a boy but I agree I hear it more for girls and would probably feel the same way you do about it.

[name_m]Axel[/name_m] - Like it, very masculine
[name_m]Myles[/name_m] - [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it, strong but also feels gentle.
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] - [name_u]Unique[/name_u] and masculine, I like it.
[name_u]Finley[/name_u] - It’s cute, but personally it feels more like a girl name to me.
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m] - [name_m]Just[/name_m] because the [name_f]Marvel[/name_f] Universe is front in center right now, I hear this and think of the villain.
[name_u]Flynn[/name_u] - So Cute.
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] - [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] this name. Classic but also unique.

The only name that stands out for me is [name_m]Myles[/name_m], which is not a creative spelling like a pp suggested. I believe it was the original spelling, ie [name_m]Myles[/name_m] Standish. The [name_m]Miles[/name_m] spelling is also great and probably more popular. I consider the name a classic. [name_m]Miles[/name_m] has remained in the top 200 since the beginning of the century without any huge spike in popularity. That is what I would look for in a name. Something that is not trendy and will stay in style. I think [name_m]Miles[/name_m] or [name_m]Myles[/name_m] is that kind of name. It will always be popular without being one of the hottest names that everyone is using. Good luck with your decision.

Correction: I just checked with Nameberry’s popularity graph. [name_m]Miles[/name_m] has been in the top 600 most popular names since 1880. I did the popularity of all the other names and by far [name_m]Miles[/name_m] or [name_m]Myles[/name_m] is your best bet if you want a name that won’t “age” or go out of style. In my opinion it is the most classic of the group of names.

I like [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Myles[/name_m] ([name_m]Miles[/name_m]). It just seemed to jump out at me.
