This is TOUGH! Opinions/Suggestions please!

I’m due in Feb, and while I don’t know the gender of this baby just yet… I’m an obsessive
baby name reader on forums and sites. [name_m]Even[/name_m] before kiddos. Sheesh.

Anywho, we have two possible names right now for a girl… bad thing is, I’m not sure on either.
Right now on our list, we have [name_f]Alivia[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] ___. Our last name is D _ _ t _ n, and siblings are [name_f]Amaya[/name_f], [name_u]Ayden[/name_u],
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] and [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u].

[name_f]Alivia[/name_f] was one both hubby and I agreed on. Different middle name, but I’m coming around to [name_f]Maren[/name_f].
His grandmother passed away and that was one way we could honor both her, and my mother. [Mom’s middle name
was [name_f]Marie[/name_f], and his grandma’s was [name_f]Alice[/name_f]].
That’s where [name_f]Alice[/name_f] comes in. That was another option, as a way to honor his grandmother. Only dilemma there is… while our family is pressuring we use either [name_f]Alice[/name_f], or [name_f]Mary[/name_f]… his grandmother HATED both of her names, first and middle. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you honor someone with a name that they disliked? We don’t want to make anyone upset, but we do realize in the end, this is our baby. We named all the others on our own.

What are your opinions of the names [name_f]Alivia[/name_f], [name_f]Maren[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] ___?
Any other ideas/suggestions?
I’m really stuck here.

I don’t care for [name_f]Alivia[/name_f]- it sounds too trendy to me. I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_f]Maren[/name_f] is quite nice, as well. It would help to find a middle name for [name_f]Alice[/name_f] if you maybe told us something about your other daughters’ middle names, or gave us an idea of the style you’re looking for. I also think that [name_f]Mary[/name_f]/[name_f]Marie[/name_f]/etc. should stay in the middle, seeing as your other kids all have A names and child #5 might feel left out.

Maybe something with a similar meaning to [name_f]Alice[/name_f]? That could certainly be used to honor her.
[name_f]Adara[/name_f]
[name_f]Adela[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Alina[/name_f]
[name_u]Arya[/name_u]

My other kids’ names are [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] [name_f]Nicole[/name_f], [name_u]Ayden[/name_u] [name_m]Wayne[/name_m], [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_f]Paige[/name_f] and [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] [name_f]Danae[/name_f], which all middle names are after someone family wise.
We just weren’t pressured, and chose them on our own. That’s my dilemma, is now with baby 5, we are being pressured, and I don’t really care for the name… But then again, neither did his grandma… Lol.
She was a great, headstrong lady. Very Southern… very nice [name_m]Christian[/name_m] lady in her older years, but wild as could be in her younger days.

Thank you for the suggestions you listed, I do like [name_f]Alina[/name_f], I grew up with a girl by that name. [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is a variant of [name_f]Alice[/name_f], no?

[name_f]Anya[/name_f]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_f]Asha[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]* good choice-I dislike [name_f]Alivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_u]Marion[/name_u] (mary + inn) would be a nice combo
[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
Annalyn
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]

I like [name_u]Marion[/name_u], too. I thought of that, but for some reason [name_f]Maren[/name_f] stuck out to me while browsing one day.
I wouldn’t pair it with [name_f]Alice[/name_f], though… because that would honoring the same person twice. If that makes sense.
Her name was [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
While my mom’s middle name was [name_f]Marie[/name_f], so is mine… and I don’t like it much at all lol.

Wouldn’t [name_f]Maren[/name_f] work in terms of honoring both [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Marie[/name_f]? That way you can use whatever first name you want and the middle name does double duty without using the EXACT name of your grandmother (which she hated anyway). If you want to use [name_f]Alivia[/name_f] as a first name, keep it.

Or you could always go with [name_f]Alicia[/name_f], [name_f]Alison[/name_f], [name_f]Ailish[/name_f], or some variation thereof instead of [name_f]Alice[/name_f].

That was my thought process actually. Two birds with one stone. [name_f]Maren[/name_f] stuck out to me one day, then I found out if was a variant of [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is similar, so I liked it more for that fact.
[name_f]Alivia[/name_f] isn’t something we’re set on, just one we both liked mutually.
The husband is a very hard man to please name wise. Lol.

[name_f]Alivia[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] would honor her, and then you wouldn’t have to use [name_f]Alice[/name_f] at all if you don’t like it.

I’m not too keen on using plain ole [name_f]Mary[/name_f], but I’m open to using names similar if it comes to it.

I feel like I’m super picky, and I don’t want to be. I just want to make everyone happy family wise, while we are happy too.

I really hope this baby is a boy lol.

I noticed that not only do your other kids all start with A but they also all have a y in their name. Is that something your interested in continuing? If so here are some suggestions:

[name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_f]Allyson[/name_f]/[name_f]Alyson[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]
[name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Ashlynn[/name_f]
[name_u]Addyson[/name_u]/[name_f]Adyson[/name_f]
[name_f]Alyce[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] (I hate misspelling names but I think it would work in your family)
[name_f]Anya[/name_f]
[name_u]Arya[/name_u] ([name_f]Aria[/name_f]- r-ee-uh)

I really like [name_f]Maren[/name_f] and I agree that it’s a great way to honor both sides of the family. I think you should definitely keep it in the middle.

We never did the Y thing intentionally. . But we noticed it with our last child. Also another funny thing is, all of their middle names end in E. It would work for our boy combo, but it’s not something that would make me change the name. The only main thing we want to keep is the A theme going. I really like your suggestions… thank you very much!

The only name of the three I like is [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. [name_f]Alivia[/name_f] sounds like a contrived [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] which is very overused and would get confused all the time. [name_f]Maren[/name_f] will get called [name_f]Mare[/name_f], which I have never found to be an attractive NN. I am sorry I can’t be more helpful.

[name_f]Maren[/name_f] would be strictly for middle name only. If we used [name_f]Alice[/name_f] nn would be [name_f]Ally[/name_f] and [name_f]Libby[/name_f] for [name_f]Alivia[/name_f] probably… I appeciate you trying to help thank you hun!

Absolutely [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. [name_f]Alivia[/name_f] looks like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] misspelled.

[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]

I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. [name_f]Alivia[/name_f] is ok but does look like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] misspelled. [name_f]Maren[/name_f] is a very cute mn. Some other options are:

[name_f]Maris[/name_f]
[name_f]Moira[/name_f]
Mhairi
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Mara[/name_f]

As someone who wanted to change her name from [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] to [name_f]Alivia[/name_f] long ago, I’m really glad I stuck with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. In my opinion, its much more beautiful, both in sound and in spelling. Having an O as the first letter of my name is something I’m proud of now, as its unique and different. O’s are beautiful.

[name_f]Alivia[/name_f] is very trendy and I’m glad I can be called [name_f]Olive[/name_f] instead of [name_u]Allie[/name_u]. [name_f]Liv[/name_f] and Livi are also nicknames that I’ve used all my life, and they fit me to a tee. Its energetic and full of life, sunshiney and always smiling. I’m glad my mom chose this name for me, as it suits me very well. It has its Shakespearean roots connected to the olive branch, which is a symbol of peace. My career path is Journalism with a background of Humanities, and I’m making my way to become a human right’s activist; I want to bring peace to peoples’ lives. Its funny how things like that work out. I am my name.

I’m grateful to be an [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].

[name_f]Alivia[/name_f] is a misspelled [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - dont make your child go through life correcting people and hearing ‘did you say [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]’ - i have a correctly spelled name but its a name that rhymes and sounds like lots of other names so trust me ITS NOT FUN, IT NEVER GETS LESS BOTHERSOME.

for [name_f]Maren[/name_f] try variations like [name_u]Marian[/name_u], small changes can transform a name but keep the same feel

if the grandmother hated being named [name_f]Alice[/name_f], dont use it. try variations & similar sounds like [name_u]Allison[/name_u] or [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]

I’m just going to suggest Aliya.
that way you keep the ‘Al’ and have a ‘y’… it is the less popular and more refined spelling of ‘Aaliyah’

or even Alicia (al-ee-see-ah or ah-lee-sha).
Which is a good compromise between Alivia and Alice.

You are welcome! This is not always easy but I hope you are having fun.
I like some PP suggestions to consider [name_u]Marian[/name_u], especially with a middle name so it will sound much better with [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. Or, alternately, [name_u]Allison[/name_u] [name_f]Maren[/name_f]. That is pretty and flows well.
