So this is completely random to me, but I have seen over 10 of this name in the past few weeks. People of difference races, who live in different states or country’s, basically people who have no connection to each other. It’s a name that I have never heard of until a few weeks ago.
The name is [name_f]Skylin[/name_f].
The spelling varies, but that’s the name. I was just curious what everyone on NB thought of it. I have no attachment to it so don’t fear being honest!
I’ve never heard of it! Can’t say I am a huge fan but it seems to be the same way I felt when all of the sudden the name Rilynn kept popping up on my facebook friends’ birth announcements!
Huh, I’ve never seen it (but watch half my Facebook friends decide to use it in the next five years or something). To me, a lifelong name nerd, it feels like someone just took a prefix from a list (also including [name_u]Shay[/name_u], [name_u]Jay[/name_u], [name_u]Jazz[/name_u], [name_u]Kay[/name_u], [name_m]Ry[/name_m], [name_u]Gray[/name_u], ad others) and a suffix from a list (that also included -lee, -syn, -dyn, -cee, and others) and put them together, if that makes sense. That said, I don’t mind [name_u]Sky[/name_u] as a nickname.
This is the exact thought I had. I see it more and more. Especially on a name discussion group I go into occasionally. At least the spelling isn’t too bad, I guess. But I am really not a fan, nor have I seen it before.
I’ve seen it around a lot. Someone I went to high school with has a daughter named Skielynne or some weird spelling and she’s got to be 11 or so now. It’s definitely trendy.
Seconding the prefix-suffix list sentiment. I work in healthcare and I see many children with names like this on a regular basis. I’m not a fan of the concept at all, it feels a little artificial to me. I feel like the names themselves sometimes sound okay, and most of them are easy to pronounce, but they are manufactured and have no history behind them, so they feel fake (even though I know all names were made up at one point, evolution of language and names, etc etc…). I’ve seen [name_f]Skylynn[/name_f] and [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] and [name_f]Skyla[/name_f], though once I saw an actual [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u]!
This is kind of disheartening to me to see so many dislike this name on this thread because Skylan is my fav girl name right now. I personally think it’s beautiful. I like the name [name_u]Skylar[/name_u]/[name_u]Skyler[/name_u] but I think that names like [name_f]Skyla[/name_f] or Skylan are similar, just a fresh new take on an older name. I also feel like the [name_u]Sky[/name_u]-LAN or [name_f]LIN[/name_f] ending sound a little softer than the ER on [name_u]Skyler[/name_u]. I like the spelling of SkyLAN better than [name_f]SkyLIN[/name_f] because I wouldn’t want it to sound like her name is [name_u]Sky[/name_u] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u].
Is this a horrified or an impressed reaction? Because [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u]'s the original spelling of [name_u]Skyler[/name_u]/[name_u]Skylar[/name_u], and is not a made-up spelling.
As for [name_f]Skylyn[/name_f] et al, I’ve come across it once or twice, but never with that much regularity! I adore [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] for a boy, but am not really a fan of the other [name_u]Sky[/name_u]- names.
It’s not the worst but not the best either. It does sound like one of those “trendy-prefix + trendy-suffix = a name” things though. I prefer [name_u]Skye[/name_u], [name_f]Skyla[/name_f], and [name_u]Skylar[/name_u]/[name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] though. I have heard of a [name_f]Skylee[/name_f] before.
