This or that advice

Hi, wondering advice/opinions between the bottom options. last name starts with L

Girls
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] or [name_f]Calla[/name_f] or [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] or [name_f]Dove[/name_f]

Boys
[name_m]Westley[/name_m] or [name_m]Hudson[/name_m] or [name_m]River[/name_m] or [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] or [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f]

My favorites are [name_f]Calla[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] for girls and [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] for a boy.

My favourites are [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] for a girl. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] feels elegant and vibrant, while [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is sweet, timeless, and ages beautifully. [name_f]Calla[/name_f] is lovely too, but [name_f]Dove[/name_f] feels more like a middle name to me.

For a boy, I’d choose [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] or [name_m]Westley[/name_m]. [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] is handsome, nature-inspired, and versatile, while [name_m]Westley[/name_m] has a charming, storybook feel without being overused. [name_m]River[/name_m] is nice too, but [name_m]Hudson[/name_m] and [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] aren’t as much my style.

I like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] the best, generally and with an L last name.

I think [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is nice but depending on how you say it isn’t as good with an L last name. It would be my second choice.

[name_f]Calla[/name_f] is L heavy with and L last name - it’ll trip people up.

[name_f]Dove[/name_f] is free spirited & cute - but I would use [name_f]Dove[/name_f] as a middle name (that you then use as a first as well - [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Dove[/name_f] is very pretty!) or I would use a name that means dove, like [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] or [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] (though not sure [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] flows to your L last name?). A lot of this also depends on last name syllable count.

[name_m]Westley[/name_m] is one of my fave names! It’s so charming! I’m a bit unsure about it with an L last name (it depends on what type of L last name - eg wouldn’t go super well with [name_m]Lee[/name_m] or a last name starting with Lee).

[name_m]Hudson[/name_m] and [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] are more grounded and solid - [name_m]Hudson[/name_m] feels more sporty and [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] a little more artsy but both more ā€œsolid boyā€. I like both but [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] would be my preference of the two and my second choice.

[name_m]River[/name_m] is a different proposition to the other boys’ names, it’s more dreamy and slightly boho. It’s immediately likeable!

[name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] is the same as [name_f]Calla[/name_f] and probably too L heavy and tongue twisting. It would be a good middle I think.

So besides flow to last name, I’d think more about style and vibes you’d like!

[name_f]Gorgeous[/name_f] names

[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] + [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] are my favourites for girls. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is a sweet, light, ethereal name that feels whimsy and majestic. I love her connections to the forest and the colour silver. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is a lovely spunky floral name that feels autumnal and joyous evoking feelings of warmth, cosiness and bright colours. I do prefer [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] but both are lovely.

For boys [name_m]River[/name_m] + [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] are my favourites. [name_m]River[/name_m] is a lovely nature name that feels stylish and outdoorsy. I love the imagery the name conjures up in relation to water and sunny spring days. [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] is another gorgeous nature name he feels warm, spirited and cosy packed full of adventurous autumnal vibes. I love the bright colourful oranges and reds I associate with this name. Both are lovely but my favourite is [name_m]Rowan[/name_m].

With an L-surname I’d choose [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and [name_m]Rowan[/name_m]! [name_f]Love[/name_f] the nature connection between them. Also love the idea of [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Dove[/name_f] as suggested above :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

[name_f]Dove[/name_f] and [name_m]Rowan[/name_m]

Personally:

Girls ranked: 1) [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] 2) [name_f]Dove[/name_f] 3) [name_f]Calla[/name_f] 4) [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]

(Sylvie just feels incomplete to me because I’m used to [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. I’ve never heard [name_f]Calla[/name_f] on a real person yet. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] I like/feels pretty. [name_f]Dove[/name_f] I’ve never heard as a legal name, but as a nickname, but I know it’s being used a lot more lately as a legal name.)

Boys ranked: 1) [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] 2) [name_m]Hudson[/name_m] 3) [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] 4) [name_m]River[/name_m] 5) [name_m]Westley[/name_m]

(Not much reasoning behind this ranking. [name_m]Just[/name_m] personal opinion as I’m not a [name_m]Westley[/name_m] fan. I feel like [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] is the easiest choice. [name_m]Hudson[/name_m] and [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] are equal for me as I have associations with both. But honestly, can’t really go wrong with any of those.)

My faves are [name_m]Hudson[/name_m] for a boy and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] for a girl!

It depends on what exactly the last name is but I can see [name_f]Calla[/name_f] clashing a bit.

[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is a lovely name. [name_f]Pretty[/name_f] and strong with some nice imagery and associations. I’m not as much a fan of [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] or [name_f]Dove[/name_f].

For boys, [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] is my favorite. It’s light, cool but substantial.

I would rank them:

  1. [name_f]Calla[/name_f]

  2. [name_f]Dove[/name_f]

  3. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]

  4. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]

  5. [name_m]Hudson[/name_m]

  6. [name_m]Rowan[/name_m]

  7. [name_m]River[/name_m]

  8. [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f]

  9. [name_m]Westley[/name_m]

For a girl:
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] L. might be awkward to say out loud, too many L sounds close together. Between the rest, I’d choose based on a combination of what’s personally meaningful, what you like best, and what sounds good with last name/sibling names.

For a boy:
I love the name [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] and would always recommend it
but my advice is the same as for the girl names.

These names are lovely!

[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] - probably my favorite—such an underrated floral name, but feels so infinitely usable with that -lia ending! I would be elated to meet a little [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f].
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] - probably my second favorite - I am a huge sucker for floral names period, and [name_f]Calla[/name_f] is gorgeous.
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] - objectively gorgeous name—it doesn’t do a ton for me, but I would be happy to meet one. It’s one of those names I would be happy to meet one but it’s not for my own list.
[name_f]Dove[/name_f] - very sweet, and I love the symbolism with peace. For some reason, I have a hard time envisioning a [name_f]Dove[/name_f] in real life, which is why I’d keep her as a middle. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Dove[/name_f] or [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Dove[/name_f] would be stunning though!

[name_m]Westley[/name_m] - dashing, fun! I like the tie to [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Bride[/name_f]. I also love [name_m]West[/name_m] as a nn.
[name_m]Hudson[/name_m] - I’ve always been fond of him—not sure if I’d use him but I’d always be happy to meet one.
[name_m]River[/name_m] - gorgeous name, but I prefer [name_m]Rivers[/name_m] myself. [name_m]River[/name_m] seems like one of those names that is everywhere now.
[name_m]Rowan[/name_m] - one of my absolute favorite boys’ names, easily my favorite from this list.
[name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] - easily my second favorite—he’s another huge favorite, but I do love [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] a little more.

Of them all, I’d love to see [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] most, maybe [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Dove[/name_f] and [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] [name_m]Westley[/name_m]?

Good luck!

Hi there.

Here are my favorite to least favorite rankings:

Girls-

Dahlia-It’s floral and feminine, but has substance. It’s unique but well known and grows up well.

Sylvie-It reminds me of a spunky fairy, which I love! I really do prefer [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is definitely a legit name on its own, but it feels better as a nn for the elegant formal [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] in my opinion.

Calla-I like it. It’s floral and interesting like [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], but feels incomplete. I adore [name_f]Callalily[/name_f], but it’s a lot as a name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Calla[/name_f] works!

Dove-This is the only one that I’m not big on. [name_m]Not[/name_m] really sure why. I just don’t love the sound as a given name. That being said, I really like [name_f]Paloma[/name_f], which means ā€˜dove’.

Boys-

Shiloh-This name is so dreamy. It’s peaceful and lovable. Well known but not too over done.

River-Very cool choice. I love how you can easily imagine a [name_m]River[/name_m] chopping wood or in a suit. He’s strong & sleek and has great nature imagery.

Rowan-Another great choice. [name_m]Strong[/name_m], handsome but feels easy going and charming. [name_m]Easy[/name_m] to say and spell. A little common, but not too over done.

Westley-I think it’s adorable and love [name_m]The[/name_m] [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Bride[/name_f]! But I do fear you’d forever be correcting people ā€œIt’s Westley; not Wesley.ā€

Hudson-This is not my favorite. It’s so over done in my area, & I just don’t like that ā€˜Hud’ sound.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

I love [name_f]Calla[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_m]Westley[/name_m], and [name_m]River[/name_m]! They have such lovely, gentle, fairytale vibes!

My favourites are [name_f]Calla[/name_f] & [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and [name_m]Westley[/name_m] & [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f]!

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] & [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_m]Westley[/name_m] & [name_m]Rowan[/name_m].
