This or that? Similar names on my list

I have some names on my girls’ list that kind of match another in sound, style, rhythm, etc.

Which is your pick for each pairing?

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] or [name_f]Callista[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]

  1. [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] by a long shot. I think it’s beautiful and strong.
  2. Tough one, all are pretty but I prefer [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. Although it seems to be rising in popularity?
  3. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], definitely. It means marshflower, so I picture something beautiful growing from something ugly.
  4. This one is probably the hardest one for me. I love both! Prefer [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] as a first and [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] as a middle.
  5. [name_f]Callista[/name_f] is okay but [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is just so pretty, it definitely wins!
  6. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are okay but neither are my favorite. Of the two I prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] - I like both, but I always choose the long form - you can always use the short form ([name_f]Leonie[/name_f]) as a nickname later.
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f] - I really, really dislike [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. It’s an unattractive plant, name, and it’s getting super popular. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] I feel less strongly about, but similarly. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is awesome - a gorgeous flower, and the Greek goddess of rainbows.
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] - [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], because I don’t like [name_f]Edith[/name_f], but I prefer [name_f]Melodie[/name_f].
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] is gorgeous, I’ve never loved [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. While [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] captures and intensifies the gorgeousness of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] doesn’t have the same sweet spunk of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], maybe because of the emphases difference (LOO-see vs. loo-SEE-uh; the only [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] I knew I had that prn., though there are at least three other legitimate ones, another issue with it for me).
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] or [name_f]Callista[/name_f] - [name_f]Calista[/name_f] just makes me think of the actress Flockhart. [name_f]Callida[/name_f] is gorgeous, though.
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] - [name_m]Both[/name_m] are pretty, but [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]'s sound is lovelier.

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] - love both names, but chose [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f] - [name_f]Iris[/name_f], don’t care for others
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] - [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]!
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] or [name_f]Callista[/name_f] - though call, chose [name_f]Callista[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] - [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - depends on how you’re pronouncing [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. If you’re pronouncing [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] as Loo-chee-uh or Loo-see-uh, then I prefer [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], but if you’re pronouncing it Loo-shuh, then I prefer [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f].
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] or [name_f]Callista[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]

[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] - Strong, beautiful, uncommon yet such a great name.
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f] - Hard to pick this one, I like all three. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] edges it as it’s a family name for me, but you can’t go wrong with any of them.
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] - [name_f]Edith[/name_f] is still a grandma name to me. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] I like but I would hate for her to have the nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], the full name is so much nicer.
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - I’ve always had a soft spot for [name_f]Lucia[/name_f].
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] or [name_f]Callista[/name_f] - Not a fan of either particularly but I do like nn [name_f]Callie[/name_f], and I find [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] a bit of a mouthful to say.
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] - No contest. I love [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], she’s got historical, literary pedigree, is strong and feminine without being frilly.

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
Neither, tbh, but I guess [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] cause like someone said that leaves [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] open as a nn
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f], but I love [name_f]Isla[/name_f] too! [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is just part of the eye afaic
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f], but [name_f]Esther[/name_f] over both
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]! Sounds like an Auror from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] or [name_f]Callista[/name_f]
And yet, for this one I say [name_f]Callista[/name_f] I don’t like the ‘ror’ sound, like in [name_u]Rory[/name_u] or [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]. Sounds like [name_f]Imagine[/name_f]

[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]. Beautiful and not nicknamey at all.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]. Seems the least “harsh,” though none of them are really harsh at all.
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]. Very cute and ready for a comeback.
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. I found this one difficult (like others)! I went with [name_f]Luci[/name_f] because it has more sentimental value to me. Although [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] does as well!
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. Sleeping Beauty! Plus this one just sounds wonderful. Very soft and makes me think of the northern lights.
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. Cute. And I don’t like [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] at all…don’t get the obsession with that one!

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] - I really like this name, it’s cute and spunky, while still being classic and underused
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f] - I had to put both, both of these names are in my Top 5, they both have something special about them imo.
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] - Pretty
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is a beautiful name too, but I just would love to meet a little [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - By far this name is so beautiful! And I love the meaning.
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] - I picked this b/c I only like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] spelled [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], but honestly I think you could use [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] so it’s kind of a moot point.
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f] - I love both [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f], which I’d pick would depend on the situation. I think given your other names I’d say [name_f]Iris[/name_f] for you.
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] - I’m not very fond of either, but I think I’d go with [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] if I had to pick
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. I don’t get a good vibe from [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f].
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] or [name_f]Callista[/name_f] - [name_f]Callista[/name_f]. I don’t like the…wah-wah-ness of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] - [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. I just love it. Though I don’t see how these are all that similar.

[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] - I adore [name_m]Leo[/name_m]- names, but [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] has always felt too cutesy and insubstantial to me.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] - Yeah, it’s a bit trendy, but [name_f]Iris[/name_f] feels frumpy and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] sounds spoiled.
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] - I can’t see [name_f]Edith[/name_f] ever transcending the clunky grandma-ness.
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - These don’t feel similar to me at all and I quite like both, but I like [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] slightly better because of the sound, meaning, and species of jellyfish.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] both, but [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] feels younger and more exuberant.
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] - I’ve just never been able to like the sound and look of [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] has just the right balance of strength, aesthetic appeal and spunk.

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] - I just think this is a fantastic name.
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] - [name_f]Iris[/name_f] has just the right balance between regular name and nature name to me. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is more of a plant and less of a name. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is beautiful, but I’ll probably like it more in 10 years when it doesn’t feel like it must have been inspired by an actress.
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] - I’m biased towards retro revivals over foreign imports, and I find the -th ending and the nickname [name_f]Edie[/name_f] really appealing.
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - Not a huge fan of either, but the [name_m]Oral[/name_m] sound in [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] tips the balance towards [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] for me.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] or [name_f]Callista[/name_f] - [name_m]Both[/name_m] a little fantastical for me, but I’d probably take [name_f]Callista[/name_f] for the nickname [name_f]Callie[/name_f].
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] - I’m pretty sure I drove another mother nuts about a year ago by repeatedly mishearing her daughter [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]'s name as [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]…so I’m tempted to think this would be one of the more annoying corrections to have to make on a regular basis. If people get it right though, [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is beautiful. And so is [name_f]Imogen[/name_f].

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]? I like [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] better, purely because you could use the nickname [name_f]Nora[/name_f].
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f]? I like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] the best, but I wouldn’t be able to use it because we already have an [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] in my family. In which case, I’d choose [name_f]Iris[/name_f].
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]? [name_f]Melody[/name_f] is one of my favorites, so I’d be inclined to choose [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] because it rhymes - although I don’t like either that much.
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] better.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] or [name_f]Callista[/name_f] - I don’t think these two are that similar…But I’d choose [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] - Again, they’re not that similar. But I’d choose [name_f]Imogen[/name_f].

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]… [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], I think it strikes a great balance of fitting in but standing out. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like the sound of [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], prefer [name_f]Leona[/name_f] instead.
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f]… [name_f]Iris[/name_f], definitely!
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]… [name_f]Edith[/name_f], not in love with it, but [name_f]Edie[/name_f] is great. Really don’t like [name_f]Elodie[/name_f].
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]… [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], though I think you could easily keep them both. They would make gorgeous sisters!
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] or [name_f]Callista[/name_f]… [name_f]Callista[/name_f], but again, I think you could keep both and they would sound beautiful together.
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]… [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], and ditto the last two…

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Callista[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]–I just don’t like nickname-sounding names.
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f]–So pretty.
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]–[name_f]Edith[/name_f] still sounds too old-ladyish to me.
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]–My favorite!
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] or [name_f]Callista[/name_f]–[name_f]Love[/name_f] this name.
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]–I don’t really care for either.
