This or That: Theodora OR Theodore?

I honestly think I already posted a similar thread a few months back, but for the life of me I cannot find it anywhere! So, I apologize if you’ve seen me post this in the past…

Anyways, DH and I have liked [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] “[name_u]Theo[/name_u]” for awhile now, but somewhat recently, I ran into a girl named [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and I fell in love. Quite honestly, I found it somewhat badass to meet a woman named [name_u]Teddy[/name_u].

A unique name isn’t extremely important to us, but it is definitely an added bonus. And I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is more common than [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]. So, that’s pulling me towards it a bit.

I’m just curious what the berries think of the name [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]? Is it cool? Is it blah? Is it weird? Is [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] better on a boy? What are your thoughts?

Also, any middle name suggestions would be much appreciated!

As a lover of many -ora names, I really like [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]! It’s a cool name, and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is sweet too. I like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] as well, but as you mentioned, [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is more unusual. I think it’s a great name, especially with the right middle.

I love -ora names, as well! Any middle name suggestions?

I usually like maculine names on females so [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is really cute, but I am not in love with [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]. Also [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] has the vintage-y [name_f]Flossie[/name_f], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f],[name_f]Dottie[/name_f],[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]…charm to it.

Thanks for your feedback! Yeah, I could see the vintage charm!

I just voted on your name list and I really liked [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like many others agree.

Thank you for voting! That’s one of my husband’s favorites. Yeah, kind of a bummer many people aren’t a fan of it. I still think it’s a great name and spunky name!

I like both. I have unpleasant personal associations with [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], but, otherwise, I’d use that. It’s a witchy name, and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is darling.

I much prefer [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] over [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]. Although I prefer [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] (for a boy/man) over [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].

Thanks for your input!

I don’t dislike [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] on a boy. But I would fear they’d go by Ted when they got older. Which, is obviously their choice, but I really don’t care for that name. I think we’d probably just call him [name_u]Theo[/name_u], but I prefer [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. Who knows. Anyways, thanks for the input!

I like [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] on a girl, but prefer it on a boy.

I love both [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. Here’s my take: Personally, I could only ever use [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] myself. I love long girl names but [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] just doesn’t align with my style and imagery. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] fits in a little better with the type of guy names I like. So that’s just my personal preference. However, in your case, I think [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is a hands-down winner. From what you’ve described about good associations and imagery you love, [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] seems like the perfect girl’s name, especially with the built-in [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. It fits with your style and has the benefit of being so much less ubiquitous than [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. [name_m]How[/name_m] many little girls will be called [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] in the future? Not many, I would imagine. Yet I’m positive [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] will be springing up in the most unlikely places, more often than not.

This is a great way to look at it! Thanks so much for your input and guidance. I 100% agree. I wouldn’t be surprised it a little [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] never met another [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] in her life. It’s unique without making people go, “huh?” Maybe DH and I will play it by if we have a boy first, he’ll be [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], if we have a girl first, she’ll be [name_f]Theodora[/name_f].
