This or That?

Hey y’all!

Trying to narrow my list down to a more manageable number (it’s currently bordering on being a name hoard, lol), but I have a lot of names on my list that are really similar, or variants of each other. I’d like to keep it to just one choice from each pairing, so I’m hoping you guys can help, lol.

Please help me pick one from each of the following pairs to add to my list! If there’s any specific reasoning for your choice, I’d love to hear it!

Note: My style IS dated, so a name being dated to a certain decade isn’t a determining factor for me (at least, not a negative one!)

[name_f]Erica[/name_f] v. [name_f]Erika[/name_f]
[name_u]Christy[/name_u] v. [name_f]Kristy[/name_f] (please, no longer forms!!)
[name_f]Kara[/name_f] v. [name_f]Cara[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] v. [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcy[/name_f] v. [name_f]Marcie[/name_f]
[name_f]Jenna[/name_f] v. [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]
[name_f]Desiree[/name_f] v. [name_f]Destiny[/name_f]
[name_u]Laurie[/name_u] v. [name_f]Lori[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] v. [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]

Thanks!

[name_f]Erica[/name_f]
[name_u]Christy[/name_u]
[name_f]Kara[/name_f] v. [name_f]Cara[/name_f] ([name_f]Kara[/name_f] would be CARE-uh and [name_f]Cara[/name_f] would be CAR-uh to me)
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcie[/name_f]
[name_f]Jenna[/name_f]
[name_f]Desiree[/name_f]
[name_f]Lori[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Claire[/name_f]?)

[name_f]Erica[/name_f] - I might be bias with my first name, but I genuinely like this one more. It’s the more common of the two, has the bonus meaning of heather in Latin/Italian (a beautiful association), and looks more balanced.
[name_f]Kristy[/name_f] - With your style, [name_f]Kristy[/name_f] seems better. The K is more 80s/90s to me whereas the Ch is more 60s/70s. I know an older [name_f]Christine[/name_f] who used to go by [name_u]Christy[/name_u] as a matter of fact.
[name_f]Cara[/name_f] - Means friend in Irish, works better in Romance languages, just looks more balanced.
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] - This name is more elegant and feminine in my opinion. It’s a timeless classic, but is rather overlooked nowadays. It still fits your style.
[name_f]Marcy[/name_f] - The Y ending makes it seem more stylish and more like a standalone.
[name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] - A gorgeous name that has more history and namesakes than [name_f]Jenna[/name_f], but both are great options.
[name_f]Desiree[/name_f] - This one goes with your style more.
[name_f]Lori[/name_f] - It’s simpler, just as known as [name_u]Laurie[/name_u], and works better as a standalone.
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] - The popularity might be a concern, but [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is less frilly, and still offers much. Have you considered [name_f]Clara[/name_f]?

[name_f]Erica[/name_f] - Looks classier.
[name_u]Christy[/name_u] - This is my cousins name and she is quite successful!
[name_f]Cara[/name_f] - I just prefer the look of this one.
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f] - More wearable on any age, I think!
[name_f]Marcy[/name_f] - Feels fuller.
[name_f]Jenna[/name_f] - I like the younger feel this one has.
[name_f]Desiree[/name_f] - Prefer the look of this one.
[name_f]Lori[/name_f] - [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] looks too much like a nickname to me.
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] - I just prefer this one over all!

[name_f]Erika[/name_f] for me, maybe because my best friend had this spelling
[name_f]Kristy[/name_f]- [name_u]Christy[/name_u] makes me think [name_m]Christian[/name_m]. Not a bad thing just not for me
[name_f]Kara[/name_f] goes more with your style I feel
[name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcy[/name_f]
[name_f]Desiree[/name_f]
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
[name_u]Laurie[/name_u]
[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]

[name_f]Erica[/name_f] - The C spelling seems softer and more mature than the harsher K.
[name_f]Kristy[/name_f] - This fits in better with the era you’re going for.
[name_f]Kara[/name_f] v. [name_f]Cara[/name_f] - To me, this depends on whether you want it pronounced CAR-uh or CARE-uh. For CAR-uh, I would go with the K spelling, a la [name_f]Kara[/name_f] Danvers. For CARE-uh, I would go with the C spelling.
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f] - This definitely fits in better with the era you’re going for.
[name_f]Marcy[/name_f] - I think the Y spelling is more 80s and 90s.
[name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] - You can always call her [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] for short.
[name_f]Desiree[/name_f] - Both of these names can easily fall into the “stripper name” category, depending on middles and such. [name_f]Desiree[/name_f] sounds a touch more elegant than [name_f]Destiny[/name_f], and thus easier to avoid the negative association.
[name_f]Lori[/name_f] - This is a much more common spelling for that era.
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] v. [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] - I feel like neither one is especially 80s. I would probably go with [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] and use [name_f]Claire[/name_f] as a nickname.

[name_f]Erica[/name_f] - The most intuitive spelling for me, and I think ease of spelling is quite important.
[name_f]Kristy[/name_f] - seems slightly less dated
[name_f]Cara[/name_f] - I generally prefer C spellings than K spellings. It looks softer.
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] - [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] seems very late 90s to be, [name_f]Laura[/name_f] feels more timeless
[name_f]Marcie[/name_f] - Not sure which would be the more common spelling. [name_f]Marcy[/name_f] looks very close to [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], while the -ie spelling is more distinctive, and seems more playful.
[name_f]Jenna[/name_f] - [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] feels a little stuffy to me
[name_f]Desiree[/name_f] - Looks nicer
[name_f]Lori[/name_f] - if they’re pronounced the same, [name_f]Lori[/name_f] or more intuitive, and looks like a full name.
[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] - has more body to it than [name_f]Claire[/name_f], which is a bit plain to me.

I’d choose:

[name_f]Erica[/name_f]
[name_f]Kristy[/name_f]
[name_f]Cara[/name_f]
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcy[/name_f]
[name_f]Jenna[/name_f]
[name_f]Desiree[/name_f]
[name_f]Lori[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]

[name_f]Erika[/name_f]
[name_u]Christy[/name_u]
[name_f]Cara[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcie[/name_f]
[name_f]Jenna[/name_f]
[name_f]Desiree[/name_f]
[name_u]Laurie[/name_u]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]

[name_f]Erika[/name_f]
[name_f]Kristy[/name_f]
[name_f]Kara[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcy[/name_f]
[name_f]Jenna[/name_f]
[name_f]Desiree[/name_f]
[name_u]Laurie[/name_u]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]

Going on what fits best with your distinct style: [name_f]Erica[/name_f], [name_f]Kristy[/name_f], [name_f]Kara[/name_f], [name_f]Lauren[/name_f], [name_f]Marcy[/name_f], [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_f]Desiree[/name_f], [name_f]Lori[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f].
My personal preference: [name_f]Erika[/name_f], [name_f]Kristy[/name_f], [name_f]Cara[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f], [name_f]Marcy[/name_f], [name_f]Jenna[/name_f], [name_f]Destiny[/name_f], [name_f]Lori[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f].

[name_f]Erica[/name_f]
[name_u]Christy[/name_u]
[name_f]Cara[/name_f]
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcy[/name_f]
[name_f]Jenna[/name_f]
[name_f]Desiree[/name_f]
[name_u]Laurie[/name_u]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]

[name_f]Erica[/name_f] – The look of [name_f]Erika[/name_f] just throw me off a little bit, honestly.
[name_u]Christy[/name_u] – Similar reasoning as above.
[name_f]Cara[/name_f] – Not a strong preference. I like both.
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f] – Both names are beautiful, but [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] feels more fun.
[name_f]Marcy[/name_f] – I just generally prefer a “-y” over an “-ie.”
[name_f]Jenna[/name_f] – [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] seems like it fits better at all stages of life.
[name_f]Destiny[/name_f] – Not a strong preference.
[name_f]Lori[/name_f] – Not a strong preference.
[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] – I really love [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] (and [name_f]Clara[/name_f]), but [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is more lackluster to me.
