I really like the name Thistle. Im not pregnant but this name i deffinatly would use it. I read it in this book i had when i was a little girl. i was wopundering what other people thought about it.
…really?
This quote by [name]Anne[/name] from [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables comes to mind:
“I read in a book once that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but I’ve never been able to believe it. I don’t believe a rose WOULD be as nice if it was called a thistle or a skunk cabbage.”
I have to agree with [name]Anne[/name] on this one.
You may also like the name [name]Briar[/name], which to me, has a prettier sound.
Good luck!
Sorry, my last post was a bit too knee-jerk reaction.
I second the [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables quote…Thistle just seems so prickly. If you really like that sound though, [name]Thisbe[/name] (pronounced with a Z sound) is a legitimate name from Greek mythology.
I don’t like the sound of it. I don’t mind the floral imagery. I might not know which ones thistles are, but I think they’re not too bad. The crayon colored thistle (not sure if they eliminated that color from Crayola) was a nice color. Compared to Thistle, [name]Lilac[/name], [name]Lavender[/name], and [name]Clover[/name] sound normal to me, and consider me one who kind of think those last three are a wee bit too whimsical to carry. Thistle just doesn’t sound name-like to me. Thistle reminds me of [name]Heather[/name], but [name]Heather[/name] is a pretty name. No matter that it’s dated, it still sounds name-like.
I find that [name]Rose[/name], [name]Briar[/name], [name]Daisy[/name] (okay, maybe a little overboard) and others are sweeter. [name]Briony[/name] also means something like crawling plant or something along those lines.
However, in a whole, Thistle seems quite boyish to me. I can’t really imagine it on a little girl, let alone one that is feminine. (:
I love it. Really love it.
I don’t see myself using it, but I’d think it was cute on someone else’s child. I kind of like it. I like that it’s unique, but it’s not too “out there.”
I’d tend to agree.
A child named Thistle would be so mocked. Thistle. Like a thorn. No, no, no.

Thistle = Weed, not a name to love
The more I thought about it, the more it grew on me. However I do like more unusal names. What middle name would you use?
I still think that it’s pretty cute. The fact that it’s a weed doesn’t bother me at all. Who said which plants are weeds and which plants are pretty. I think that all of which grows on earth is beautiful no matter what. [name]Just[/name] because the plant is prickly oh yeah so a roses and many people name their child [name]Rose[/name]. I think Thistle would be a very cute name. [name]Thisbe[/name] is cute and I myself did play [name]Thisbe[/name] in A Mid [name]Summer[/name] Nights [name]Dream[/name] but I don’t really like the letter B.
I think thistles are very pretty, but a child named thistle would have to grow on me.
I like the suggestion of [name]Thisbe[/name]. That’s an interesting and underused name.
It’s beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Boy or Girl.
Ohmygahd just realized that I answered this post already over 3 years ago! lol at least I’m consistent!
Sigh, still trying to get pregnant so I can se one of these great names! Wonder if the original poster had a kid yet?
