Thomasina nn Minnie?

Is it too much of a stretch? Hubby and I love [name]Thomasina[/name], a name which also has family ties for us. I love the idea of using it without a nn, but feel that a nn is likely inevitable, given its length.

I’ve considered other possibilities:
[name]Tina[/name]
[name]Mina[/name]
[name]Tom[/name]
[name]Tommy[/name]
[name]Sina[/name]
[name]Nina[/name]

The only one I even remotely like is [name]Nina[/name], which seems like another stretch. So what are your thoughts on [name]Thomasina[/name] nn [name]Minnie[/name]? I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Minnie[/name]! And I would appreciate any other suggestions you might have!

No, I don’t think it’s that much of a stretch. Is it a definite first name? I’m sure I once saw that you had [name]Eve[/name] [name]Thomasina[/name] as a combo and I remember thinking that was rather fantastic  Have to say I like [name]Tom[/name] the best though, but that’s because one of my closest friends is called [name]Thomasina[/name] and that’s her nn  But [name]Minnie[/name] is cute. Have you considered [name]Tamsin[/name] at all?

I think [name]Minnie[/name] or [name]Nina[/name] work! I think that with long feminizations you have some lee-way. I love [name]Thomasina[/name] and love your nickname ideas that don’t use the first syllable!

Any [name]Geraldine[/name] ideas?

I love “[name]Sina[/name]” as a nickname!

I think nicknames that are so different from the original name can stick, but they aren’t really nicknames anymore. Some people will call her exclusively by the replacement name and others will not get it. Your daughter may not like transitioning between the two names. [name]Mina[/name] might work, but [name]Sina[/name] is a better bet.

I knew a [name]Cristina[/name] who went by [name]Nina[/name], so I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch. I like [name]Nina[/name]

[name]Minnie[/name] would work well also.

I don’t think it’s a stretch at all. It has the m sound and it has the “in”.

I also wanted to suggest Massa (like Matza without the T sound) I used to know a [name]Melissa[/name] who went by this and I always thought it was nice. I think it works for [name]Thomasina[/name]!

I think [name]Minnie[/name] works fine. However, I don’t think a nickname is inevitable. It is no longer than the hugely popular [name]Isabella[/name].

I love both [name]Minnie[/name] and [name]Tommy[/name] as nn’s for [name]Thomasina[/name].

Thanks all! I also thought of [name]Missy[/name] and [name]Mia[/name] this morning, but I like [name]Minnie[/name] better. @boyandgirl: good thought about the [name]Thomasina[/name]/[name]Isabella[/name] thing! I hadn’t thought of that, and it makes me hopeful that a nn isn’t inevitable.

Perfect for you. That and [name]Rosemary[/name] of course. [name]Thomasina[/name] “[name]Minnie[/name]” and [name]Woodrow[/name] “[name]Woody[/name]” and [name]Rosemary[/name] “[name]Romy[/name]?” [name]Ulysses[/name], [name]Tiberius[/name]… I have a new favorite each time I look at your names.

Someone suggested [name]Millie[/name] the other day as a nickname for [name]Emmeline[/name] (“leen”) and I almost died. Why weren’t my parents more inventive about nicknames? I could have been a [name]Millie[/name]! Or “[name]Lena[/name],” like [name]Lena[/name] Horne… Sigh.

[name]Thomasina[/name] nn [name]Minnie[/name] is precious! I adore it. Nicknames have become my new favourite thing, and [name]Minnie[/name] is one of the most adorable there is. I have a friend with a little [name]Woodrow[/name] by the way, and I love that name! As well with the rest, I agree with [name]Emma[/name], a new favourite every time I look at your list… and also always eagerly awaiting a new name of the day!

I dont think [name]Minnie[/name] or [name]Nina[/name] are too much of a stretch at all. I rather like the nn [name]Tommy[/name] on a girl. But I’m partial to the unisex names to begin with…
I really like the name [name]Thomasina[/name]. You certainly dont hear it too often.
It reminds me of a film I loved as a child - The three lives of [name]Thomasina[/name].

Not a stretch at all, in fact I find [name]Minnie[/name] perfectly plausible as a nickname for [name]Thomasina[/name].

NB: I prefer [name]Thomasine[/name] to [name]Thomasina[/name], not much difference I know, but [name]Thomasine[/name] just seems that touch more refined to me. I think the final ‘uh’ sound in [name]Thomasina[/name] is one sound too many. [name]Just[/name] my opinion though.

I love [name]Thomasina[/name] and I think [name]Minnie[/name] is a great nn! I also think [name]Maisie[/name] would work equally well, both are adorable.

Thanks all! You’ve all been so sweet during my never ending naming questions! Still loving [name]Thomasina[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name], and [name]Woodrow[/name]. Now to get that baby already…

I have known two Thomasinas. [name]One[/name] was always [name]Thomasina[/name] (no nickname) and the other went by [name]Tommy[/name]. I don’t think [name]Minnie[/name] is a stretch. I love [name]Thomasina[/name] it is lovely and unusual without seeming weird.
