If you dont like the “trend” of unisex names then you won’t like this post. But feel free to respond anyway, of course!
I have always liked the [name]Ezra[/name] for a girl. I would like to name a girl [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Kate[/name]. But recently I have started to like [name]Lucca[/name] [name]Kate[/name] for a girl. [name]Luke[/name] is my brothjers name so I thought that would be kind of cool.
So which do you prefer?
[name]Lucca[/name] [name]Kate[/name] or [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Kate[/name]. Probably will be the sister of [name]Harper[/name] [name]Laci[/name]
I don’t mind certain unisex names, but I guess I don’t like boys names on girls, as I do think there are some names that are just gender-specific. [name]Ezra[/name] is one I couldn’t really picture on a girl, so out of the two I think [name]Lucca[/name] is better. I assume you’ll be pronouncing it ‘luke-ah?’
I typically hate boy’s names on girls but I just had to see what names were mentioned. Honestly, I’ve always felt [name]Ezra[/name] was a little feminine. I have no idea why! I still might side-eye it, but less than [name]Lucca[/name] [name]IMO[/name]. [name]Lucca[/name] also seems misspelled. Why not [name]Lucia[/name]? I like that more anyways
I’m not a fan of boy names on girls, to be honest, although between [name]Lucca[/name] and [name]Ezra[/name], I’d pick [name]Lucca[/name] because at least I can associate that particular spelling with a girl to a point.
@jennipea382: [name]Lucca[/name] may not possibly be a misspelling, really. I’m guessing it’s a reference to [name]Lucca[/name] from Chrono Trigger, who was most certainly a girl.
For girls, I prefer [name]Lucca[/name] (though I’d rather see [name]Luca[/name] or [name]Luka[/name]) over [name]Ezra[/name], but I don’t really care for the flow of [name]Lucca[/name] [name]Kate[/name]. There’s so much hard C/K sound in the middle; I think it sounds a little too much like something being stammered.
I guess I’d pick [name]Lucca[/name] with a different middle name. If [name]Kate[/name]'s a for sure thing, I pick [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Kate[/name].
I guess I have to say that I am not opposed to unisex names or “boys names on girls” since we are using [name]Arrow[/name] for our girl (which I’ve been told that it is very strongly a boy’s only name but I can only see it as girly with that spelling). BUT, I just read the other day in the front of my new baby names book something that I thought was rather interesting: “The gender “assignment” of names change - often in surprising ways. For years, [name]Ashley[/name] was used often for boys. ([name]Remember[/name] [name]Ashley[/name] [name]Wilkes[/name] in Gone With The Wind?) Twenty-five years ago, it was in the top 300 of boys’ names. Today it doesn’t crack the top 1000, whereas it’s the eighth-most-popular name for girls. In 2000, over twice as many boys than girls were named [name]Reese[/name]. By 2004, actress [name]Reese[/name] Witherspoon had helped those numbers switch places - now nearly twice as many girls than boys are named [name]Reese[/name].”
That said, [name]Ezra[/name] is close enough to [name]Esther[/name] that I believe it could work. Esp with a middle name like [name]Kate[/name]. And [name]Luca[/name] is in my book for girls as a form of [name]Lucy[/name]. [name]Luca[/name] in the boys sections is as a form of [name]Luke[/name]. So you could probably get away with [name]Lucca[/name] [name]Kate[/name] or [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Kate[/name].
I prefer [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Kate[/name] 'cause [name]Lucca[/name] [name]Kate[/name] has more K sounds.
Okay I am definitely open to suggestions for middle names. If [name]Kate[/name] is too much of a hard sound with [name]Lucca[/name] (which I now can see) What middle name would you suggest. I learn towards one syllable but it is not limited to one syllable. I know a celebrity has a [name]Lucca[/name] [name]Belle[/name] Or [name]Bella[/name].
[name]Ezra[/name]! Tons of girls names now classic started off as just femininisations or appropriations of male names. For me, I hate when girls are given presidents last names as first names, too low classy-- but using a great classic man’s name on a female can be fine, especially with such a feminine middle name. [name]Lucca[/name] is ok.
I am one of the few who likes boys names on girls…I guess cause I don’t mind stealing them back if I ever have a boy! I plan to use [name]Sidney[/name] if I ever have a boy despite all of the girl Sydneys out there!
Anyways…I like [name]Luca[/name] or [name]Luka[/name], but I don’t really like the look of [name]Lucca[/name]. Lucah even looks better imo. Also I am think it’s [name]Lou[/name]-kuh, right? Not [name]Lou[/name]-shuh.
I also think [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Kate[/name] works. A lot of more feminine sounding boys names like [name]Asa[/name] or [name]Ira[/name], [name]Elliot[/name] or [name]Eli[/name], maybe even [name]Isaiah[/name] or [name]Elias[/name] can totally work imo. I would consider hyphenating to girl it up a bit on forms and things like that…
I think I would use [name]Ezra[/name] over [name]Lucca[/name] just because from an outside perspective [name]Lucca[/name] is a little confusing pronunciation-wise.
Also, [name]Lucia[/name] or [name]Luciana[/name] or [name]Lucy[/name] or even [name]Lucky[/name] could be more straight-forward ways of honoring [name]Luke[/name]
also-
Looking through other people’s comments after I posted mine I just wanted to add that I like the sound of [name]Lucca[/name] [name]Kate[/name] (now reading the comments I see it is [name]Lou[/name]-kuh) and I don’t think it’s too K heavy for me. I think it sounds better than [name]Lucca[/name] [name]Belle[/name] or [name]Lucca[/name] [name]Bella[/name] which to me sounds very dramatic and Italian and super girly while [name]Lucca[/name] [name]Kate[/name] is cuter/spunkier…
[name]Lucca[/name] [name]Lee[/name]
[name]Lucca[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Lucca[/name] [name]Faye[/name]
[name]Lucca[/name] [name]May[/name]
[name]Lucca[/name] [name]Ray[/name]
yes, it would be pronounced lou-kah.
On this post people seem to be liking [name]Luca[/name] better for the spelling. However on my other post where I suggested [name]Luca[/name] everyone is saying [name]Lucca[/name] is better for a girl, haha!
Lucah is a new idea that I will consider! I had thought of Louca- but I thought it just looked made up.
