Thought on Van

I keep coming back to short, one syllable names. What are everyone’s thoughts on [name_u]Van[/name_u]?

I sort of like [name_u]Van[/name_u]! I might be a little wary of it just because of it also being a word, but it strikes me as an upbeat, appealing choice.

I much prefer [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m]

I really like the suggestion of [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m]. I like [name_u]Van[/name_u] better as a nn.

What do you think of [name_m]Vance[/name_m]?

I don’t find it a complete name. I’d also prefer [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m].

[name_u]Van[/name_u] just reminds me of the vehicle, sorry! I like the other names that have been suggested much better.

[name_m]Feel[/name_m] the same! Though [name_u]Van[/name_u] [name_m]Morrison[/name_m] is a great association.

A former colleague had a son named [name_u]Van[/name_u]. When our boss passed on the news at work after the baby was born, everyone goes, “Huh? Like… a vehicle?” And then we got used to it. I can’t say I really like it that much personally, but it works.

Not a fan of it. I just think of the vehicle.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess it works more as a short form of [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] or [name_m]Donovan[/name_m].

I can’t stand it. Not even as a nickname. 3 main reasons:

  1. It just sounds like a vehicle
  2. It sounds terrible in an Australian accent (and my accent isn’t even broad)
  3. I have a ‘van ____’ last name, so it always just sounds incomplete to me, especially in the middle name spot.

It makes me think of [name_u]Van[/name_u] [name_m]Montgomery[/name_m], a character on [name_f]Reba[/name_f].
It’s a sweet name, [name_u]Van[/name_u]…

I find it sounds too much like a nickname plus the vehicle; also it makes me think of Vans shoes, which isn’t a negative association but which does take it a little further again away from feeling like a person’s name.
As a nickname for [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] or [name_m]Donovan[/name_m] as you mention I wouldn’t mind it, although I don’t really get its appeal.

I like the name [name_u]Van[/name_u]!
I’ve heard of it of a few little boys lately. [name_m]Vance[/name_m] and [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m] are great too.

I personally prefer the suggestion of [name_m]Vance[/name_m], but it’s not a bad name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] seems a bit /too/ short if that makes sense? Who knows, it could end up being the next [name_m]Jax[/name_m] or [name_u]Kai[/name_u]

Much prefer [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m], or [name_u]Van[/name_u] as a nickname ([name_u]Sullivan[/name_u], [name_m]Donovan[/name_m], [name_m]Vander[/name_m], [name_u]Devan[/name_u], [name_m]Evander[/name_m], [name_u]Evan[/name_u]…)

I absolutely love [name_u]Van[/name_u]. If you wanted a longer version you could have [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]. [name_u]Van[/name_u] as a nickname.
