I love both names, but would really appreciate some feedback from others. We’re American with Scandinavian heritage, but I don’t want the name we choose to sound like we’re trying too hard to be something we’re not (if that makes any sense!).
What do you think of these names? [name]Do[/name] you have any strong gut reactions or associations?
(Not sure of middles yet. Possibly [name]Elise[/name], [name]May[/name], [name]Belle[/name], or [name]Marigold[/name] if we go with [name]Juna[/name] for the first. I also like [name]Juniper[/name], but feel more drawn to [name]Juna[/name] for some reason.)
I really like [name]Marigold[/name], even though I’m allergic to them! I’m not a huge fan of [name]Juna[/name], but it’s not a bad name at all, just not my type of name. If I met a girl named [name]Juna[/name] or [name]Marigold[/name] I would think they were lovely and refreshing! I don’t think it sounds like you’re trying too hard at all.
[name]Juna[/name] - I prefer [name]June[/name], [name]Juno[/name] or [name]Junia[/name] myself. This spelling is a bit odd.
[name]Marigold[/name] - A bit cutesy for a first name but I do think it would be a quirky choice in the middle spot.
[name]Juna[/name] is ok, but i think I prefer vintagy feel of [name]June[/name] better.
[name]Marigold[/name] I find really just very weird, almost too much for a person to handle, perhaps as a middle name it would work.
Keep in mind I am Canadian and we do tend to be a little more conservative in our name choices, so Im not sure where you live, but perhaps a little [name]Marigold[/name] would fit in?
Thanks for the feedback so far! I’m a stickler for spelling so I’m definitely concerned that Juna may look off in terms of spelling. It’s “officially” a Danish name, but I was hoping the similarity to Luna might make it look correct to an American eye.
Marigold is just such a happy name and I think the option of a Mary/Mari nickname (which would honor a family member) is what makes it seem doable for us.
I would still love to hear other thoughts though!
*edited because sometimes I get overzealous with quotation marks
I like both names. They’re both unusual without being strange. [name]Marigold[/name] I love because besides being a pretty flower, it has the great nicknames [name]Mari[/name] and [name]Goldie[/name]. I don’t believe I’ve heard [name]Juna[/name] before but I think it sounds really elegant and sophisticated. Plus, even though it’s not a common name, the pronunciation is easy. [name]Juna[/name] [name]Marigold[/name] would actually be a pretty great combo!
I think [name]Juna[/name] [name]Marigold[/name] is a beautiful name!! I too love the name [name]Juniper[/name]…of course, I adore these as well: [name]Juno[/name], [name]Junia[/name], [name]Junie[/name], [name]June[/name]…
(I have a lovely purebred Himalayan Persian cat I named [name]Juno[/name], and I call her by all of the variations above–haha!).
I find [name]Juna[/name] to be very close to [name]Juno[/name] sound-wise, but think it appears more feminine on paper with the -a ending, as opposed to the -o ending on [name]Juno[/name]. Also, with the name [name]Juno[/name], trying to tell her ‘no’ as a toddler may be an interesting endeavor, especially if you use the nn ‘[name]June[/name]’ often. (This happened to me with my cat-She always listens best when I say “[name]Juno[/name]–NO!”; if I say '[name]June[/name]–No!", it basically sounds like I’m just saying her name…not effective! hehe…).
