[name]Hi[/name], I was wondering if anyone here could give me their thoughts on my favourite names? I’m not expecting a baby any time soon, just for the record.
Also if you could suggest names that you think I might like, that would be very appreciated!
Let me know if some are extremely popular, or you feel are gaining in popularity please, as I am concerned about a few of these. (Specifically popularity opinion if you are Canadian, as its hard to find Canadian name stats)
[name]Ariadne[/name] - lovely! you might like [name]Althea[/name]
[name]Arwen[/name] - very pretty though very associated with LOTR. you might like [name]Elowen[/name] or [name]Gwen[/name]
[name]Nora[/name] - pretty, you might like [name]Cora[/name] or longer version [name]Eleanora[/name]/Elinora
[name]Maisie[/name] - cute, though very nn-ish, maybe as a nn for a longer name like [name]Imogen[/name] or [name]Mazarine[/name] or [name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Pauline[/name] - I prefer [name]Paula[/name], though both are a tad dated, similar is [name]Arlene[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] - very pretty, though more popular than most on your list
[name]Sawyer[/name] - I’m not fond of this, on a girl or a boy, but especially not on a girl, what about [name]Easter[/name], [name]Esther[/name], [name]Juniper[/name], [name]Piper[/name], [name]Winter[/name]
Boys:
[name]Arthur[/name] - love, one of my favorites, also [name]Anders[/name], [name]Calvin[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] - very nice, though quite popular, also [name]Wesley[/name], [name]Harris[/name]
[name]Louis[/name] - nms, but I don’t hate it
[name]Martin[/name] - nms
[name]Ronan[/name] - I prefer [name]Rowan[/name], but it’s not bad; also [name]Devon[/name], [name]Ewan[/name], [name]Gideon[/name]
Not sure about [name]Canada[/name]'s name stats, but [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] are the most popular here. I listed a few suggestions you may like. =]
[name]Ariadne[/name]- pretty, very unique!
[name]Arwen[/name]- Not my favorite, but its interesting
[name]Nora[/name] (or [name]Nola[/name]?)- Like this name a lot, especially paired with [name]Ronan[/name]
[name]Maisie[/name]- SO CUTE!
[name]Pauline[/name]- I like [name]Paula[/name] a lot better!
[name]Ruby[/name]- Really like this name too. Saw it paired with Hummingbird as a middle name one time. Thought that was really pretty and totally whimsical
[name]Sawyer[/name]- Not my favorite
Boys:
[name]Arthur[/name]- a little too old fashioned for my taste
[name]Henry[/name]- I think this is a great, safe choice
[name]Louis[/name] (prn Loo-iss)- So wonderful. Timeless, regal…
[name]Martin[/name] ([name]Marty[/name])- Dont love it, its just a little bland
[name]Ronan[/name]- [name]Love[/name] this one, espcially with [name]Nora[/name]. Good old Irish names
[name]Ariadne[/name] - Pretty. I tend to like Greek names.
[name]Arwen[/name] - Also pretty, but the heavy association with LOTR makes it less wearable
[name]Nora[/name] (or [name]Nola[/name]?) - Like [name]Nola[/name], dislike [name]Nora[/name]. I can’t pinpoint why, exactly, but there’s something uninteresting about it.
[name]Maisie[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it, but I do think it works best as a nickname. It could even be sort of a longer-than-the original nickname for [name]May[/name]/[name]Mae[/name].
[name]Pauline[/name] - Eh. It’s ok but very dated.
[name]Ruby[/name] - Has never appealed to me for some reason. I dislike the sound.
[name]Sawyer[/name] - I don’t much like this one on either gender, but I especially can’t stand it on girls.
Boys:
[name]Arthur[/name] - Fantastic. So aristocratic, yet
[name]Henry[/name] - Likeable, with great nn options
[name]Louis[/name] (prn Loo-iss) -Eh. I’ll take it or leave it.
[name]Martin[/name] ([name]Marty[/name]) - Dated but fun.
[name]Ronan[/name] - It’s nice enough, but it seems to me that it would take a very specific person to pull it off.
Wow, we have basically the same naming style-- your list includes many of my favorite names! Ranking them from my favorite to least favorite:
[name]Ariadne[/name]: [name]LOVE[/name] everything about it. I think it’s just unusual enough, yet still pronounceable.
[name]Arwen[/name]: I think this is a lovely name, and agree with a previous poster that [name]Elowen[/name] is another great option. Maybe [name]Bronwyn[/name], also?
[name]Ruby[/name]: Very cute. If popularity is a concern of yours, though, I think [name]Ruby[/name] is getting pretty popular these days.
[name]Nora[/name] (or [name]Nola[/name]?). I think [name]Nora[/name] is a nice, solid name. [name]Nola[/name] is nms. [name]How[/name] about [name]Nova[/name]?
[name]Maisie[/name]: It’s ok, reminds me of a mouse in a particular childrens’ book.
[name]Sawyer[/name]: Very trendy and somewhat masculine. I only know boys named [name]Sawyer[/name].
[name]Pauline[/name]: Feels very dated to me.
[name]Ronan[/name]: This is a wonderful name. While it isn’t a classic, I definitely don’t think it seems trendy.
[name]Arthur[/name]: [name]Regal[/name] yet not stuffy. I think this name is making a comeback.
[name]Henry[/name]: Classic, but still seems wearable on a baby.
[name]Louis[/name] (prn Loo-iss): Nice but not entirely my style.
[name]Martin[/name] ([name]Marty[/name]): Feels a little dated, but not too bad. Makes me think of [name]Martin[/name] [name]Freeman[/name]!
Since we seem to have a similar style, here are some other names you may be interested in: [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Archer[/name], [name]Linnea[/name], [name]Augustin[/name], [name]Briony[/name], [name]Anthea[/name]/[name]Althea[/name] (as a previous poster suggested), [name]Wynn[/name], [name]Autumn[/name], [name]Linus[/name], [name]Laurel[/name], [name]Juniper[/name].
Where in [name]Canada[/name] are you? I am in [name]Alberta[/name], and have found a list of all the babies registered each year here: Service Alberta: Alberta’s Top Babies Names
Not sure what other provinces do, but hope that helps!
@casilda Thanks for the list! Its quite interesting really, there are some names I really wouldn’t have expected to be so popular.
@sapphires
I really like [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Vera[/name], [name]Julian[/name] and [name]Philip[/name].
Also [name]Matilda[/name], which is really growing on me lately. Thanks!
What would your opinion be on using the nickname Lina/Lena for a girl named Pauline?
